Binti: Home | Nnedi Okorafor

Hello Litsy friends. I know, it's been too long, but I'm still kicking, and reading. Work has just been...well, let's just say I don't think I had any real idea what I was walking into when I accepted this job. It's been rocky at times, but I've stuck with it. I'm still working on finding a balance, though.

Audiobooks have saved my sanity, to some degree, especially when traveling. Currently enjoying Binti: Home.

SpeculativeFemale @readordierachel Thanks, it's good to be back. I let the job kind of take over my life for a while. Really seeking a better balance now. 11mo
Leftcoastzen Glad you are back. It can be tough finding balance in a new position.I hope things improve. 11mo

Stephen King is definitely a #workaholic, having published 60 books and nearly 200 short stories. I've read maybe four of his books, so I have my work cut out for me. #workaholics #jubilantjuly

charissharpe I read a ton of Stephen King as a teenager! 2y

Pickpick

Joan Bauer has written a number of YA books about hard-working teens, and I really liked this one about a high school senior working in a local diner while also dealing with the usual and some unusual teenage drama. #workaholic #jubilantjuly

Melwilk I recommend this one to my students fairly often. 2y

Eve Dallas fits the definition of a #workaholic. It's a good think she has a such an attractive husband to help her get her mind off of work😉. #indeath #jubilantjuly

This is a cute story about a #workaholic attorney who walks away from her high stress job and makes some discoveries about herself along the way. How many times have I dreamed about walking away from it all? More times than I can count!! 🙈#jubilantjuly

A few of my favorite #workaholic authors: (clockwise) Mark Z. Danielewski, Stephen King, Jonathan Franzen, Karl Ove Knausgaard. (Courtesy of @bookculture shelves)

(Not seen here is Danielewski's goal to publish 27 volumes of the Familiar- I think Vol. 5 is due out this fall and the first is a couple years old)

Jabberwocky Have you ever read this book? I read it right after House of leaves (which I adored) and man was it a head trip. 2y
mrozzz @Jaberwocky I've read them all! It was very strange, yes. Took me awhile to get the format or the story! But when I read his books I'm always most interested in the HOW less the what. House of Leaves was also the first book of his I'd encountered and that one was both an amazing presentation and a wildly intricate plot. My college thesis (story wise- layered) was heavily inspired by his books. 2y
Jabberwocky @mrozzz I have to admit that I couldn't finish only revolutions, but it's been a long time since I tried. House of leaves might be the best book I've ever read. I read it right after high school and it blew my tiny mind. I own the first familiar (I actually preordered it) but I've never gotten around to it. I also adored the 50 year sword. 2y
mrozzz @Jaberwocky It's truly an insane freaking tome 😄 I also own the first Familiar but only got through 70 or so pages. Wasn't ready even though it is GORGEOUS (edited) 2y
mrozzz @Jaberwocky 50 year sword is much easier to handle! 2y
