This colorful, quirky treasure of a book wraps you up in an eight-limbed octopus hug while wiping away a bittersweet tear from your eye! A lovely look at the way we all can sometimes save each other. The narration is flawless. 🐙🎧

This was a heartening read, even when the characters pissed me off. Not Marcellus though, he has the exact personality you would expect an Octopus to have.

An amazing debut. If you liked The Soul of an Octopus you will love this book. Octopuses are one of my favorite animals. This is a charming heart warming tale about an octopus, a lady, and the community they create a family from.

My first 3x3 grid of each book read the year it was published, and it was a pile of fun! I have to give this grid to the giant pacific octopus, but I might give a shiny tip to the The No-show for a second 5*, as well.

5* = Loved It, want to shout out loud about this book! I do/will own/keep a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Average C
2*=Nope D
1*=DNF F

This has got to be one of the most charming stories I‘ve read in a awhile. All of the characters, to include the octopus 🐙 really come alive on the page for the reader. It‘s also a story that will remain with you after the last page is read. #bookclubread #washingtonstate #readingtheunitedstates

marleed I thought so too. A completely different reading experiences, but when I was done I was left with the fells I experienced last year reading the noted. And that‘s a very good thing! 2w
KristiAhlers @marleed yes! I read that book also and was so charmed by all the characters and storyline! I love discovering reading gems like these. 2w

I really enjoyed my time spent with these remarkably bright creatures. I was in love with Marcellus from his opening lines and could have easily read a whole book from his perspective. I did, however, love the story tucked between his layers. It‘s definitely a book with heart. Or three (like an octopus).

I was charmed by this relationship-heavy story starring a 70-something widow and a giant Pacific octopus. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#remarkably-bright-creatures

Last year the book that fit my read for ‘most adorable‘ adult fiction was House of the Cerulean Sea. To date for this year, this book looks to earn this 2022 status. I don‘t know how else to describe it except adorable. 50% in and the reader knows what the octopus does and how the story should end. The fun is in reading to the end to find out if and how the author is in sync with octopus of her creation. ↓

marleed I‘m also entertained that in less than two months, an octopus took center stage I two books I‘ve read. 2w
KristiAhlers Awe I loved the first book you referenced so now I‘m going to have to pick up this one. I was sitting on the fence but it seems to be a winner with most readers. 2w
DivineDiana There‘s definitely an octopus trend! My Book Club is reading 2w
marleed @DivineDiana oh thank you - now I have another octopus book calling my name! 2w
marleed @KristiAhlers I loved it. It takes a few chapters for the characters to meld into a single story, but when you realize why it makes sense. 2w

My kids went to a Star Wars event at our public library after school today, which means I gathered quite a stack of books while waiting for them. Most for the kids, but I did start reading this one and had to bring it home...

This delightfully offbeat novel strikes just the right balance between weird & funny on the one hand & tender & big hearted on the other. Marcellus is a clever giant Pacific Octopus with a slightly misanthropic bent who lives in a public aquarium. Tova is the aquarium‘s recently widowed janitor who‘s stuck in a rut and still mourns the unsolved loss of her son. Tova & Marcellus become best friends and mysteries get solved. What‘s not to love?!

I am pleased with so many aspects of this story. I absolutely love non human life forms given human intelligence in a story. I really enjoyed Tova's POV in her 70s and Cameron grew on me as he was entering that big glow up we often catch around 30. All were perspectives not often read from and really worked well together in this story of second chances. This one comes out May 2nd!
