Christmas Caramel Murder
Christmas Caramel Murder | Joanne Fluke
33 posts | 35 read | 9 to read
"Christmas normally descends on Lake Eden, Minnesota, as gently as reindeer alighting on a rooftop but this yuletide season the only thing coming down Hannah Swensen s chimney is a case of murder . . ." "" The holidays have arrived, and Hannah and her good pal Lisa have agreed to provide all the goodies for the town s annual production of "A Christmas Carol." But before anyone can say Bah, humbug! a Santa-sized sackful of trouble ensues. Like the fact that Lisa s husband will be playing Mr. Claus to his ex-girlfriend Phyllis Bates Mrs. Claus. Or that before the curtains even go up Phyllis is found dead in the snow wearing a costume that the real Mrs. Claus would put on the naughty list. Soon after the suspects pile up faster than snowdrifts in a blizzard, while a merry murderer remains on the loose. With clues even harder to find, it might take a visit from ghosts of Christmas past to wrap up this mystery in time for the holidays . . . Includes a Dozen Holiday Recipes from The Cookie Jar!"

A light read/listen. Hannah finds a dead body of a town trouble maker in a ditch outside one of her favorite restaurants. One of her best friends is a suspect, so of course she has to investigate. I found the culprit less believable than usual

It's a cosy Christmas book. It wasn't good or bad, just an easy read. I don't think I'll seek out the others in the series

Book 134 & 135🎧
I will firstly admit - this is not my genre😂 I miss spooky thrillers😩

A Christmas Secret was lucky I finished😂👎🏻

A Joanne Fluke mystery is always light hearted and includes delicious recipes (which I may attempt)👍🏻🍫

Ornament scavenger hunt🎄 - Sparkly(one of my surviving snowbabies😭)& Oldest (‘97)

Perfectly fun cozy mystery. Recipes all sound delicious and made me want to bake. Then I remembered that I have no desire to do that! Really loved the Christmas Carol homage in this one. Made this book even sweeter (pun intentional). 26 pts #WinterGames2020 #MerryResders

Edit: +26 points to team #MerryReaders #WinterGames2020

Ok, I'm still fuzzy on how points work. Can one book be counted in multiple categories to total up the points from all of them? I finished this book yesterday and it is a holiday read, a TBR read, as well as marking off my first square for A Very Merry Bingo. So, how many points does it count as? Sorry, this is my first time participating in any games on Litsy!

witchyreader13 And I should mention that A Very Merry Bingo was also listed as a Readathon. 3y
TheAromaofBooks I may be wrong, but my understanding is that you have to choose one “category“ for your book (so it can be a Holiday Read OR a TBR Read OR an Impulse Read) but all the other points are stackable. So it would be 25 points for a Holiday Read & then the Readathons are 10pts per hour that you read. Since you're in #MerryReaders you should totally join our Slack channel!! We have a lot of discussions there about points & how they work!! 3y
witchyreader13 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks! I signed up for the Slack channel, but haven't actually checked it out yet. I'll take a look later today. 3y

Well, I can‘t think of anything positive to say about this story. Except, the raspberry muffin recipe sounds pretty good!

Biblionut 😂 4y
tdrosebud I really liked the beginning of this series, but as it went on it became more of a chore to read. I really just lost interest in the MC and I'm a few books behind where this one is. The recipes do always seem good though. 4y
mabell @sprainedbrain @Biblionut I always look for the silver lining 🤣 4y
mabell @tdrosebud I‘m feel the same way! My sister still wants to buddy read these, so I‘ve read them all, but they‘ve become pretty disappointing. This one was just all around a downer! But I do plan on making those muffins 😂 4y

The dialogue seemed stilted, and the plot far-fetched, so only a so-so read for me. #holidayreads #wintergames #tmskellington @Crimson613 @Clwojick @StayCurious

I did it! I actually made pancakes from scratch from a recipe in a fiction book! I am not a good pancake maker, that is my husbands talent. I made gingerbread pancakes recipe from this book. I used a skillet that forms silver dollar sized pancakes with Christmas shapes on them. I recommend adding more cinnamon and serving with cool whip. I also made brown sugar ham and eggs. @Clwojick @StayCurious @Bookworm54 #wintergames #teamnutcracker 31 pts

umbrellagirl I have read a couple from that series but never tried the recipes. Glad it worked out 👍🏻 4y
marleed How fun! I‘ve yet to make a recipe noted in a fiction read. But then again I don‘t make many recipes from a cookbook either ;( 4y

Book 16 #cozyinthesun @Librarybelle @ferskner finished one more in the nick of time. I think the Christmas Carol plot devise is over done in cozies but I enjoyed learning more about Hannah‘s father. We need a solution to the love triangle too. I am going to try the gingerbread pancake recipe as soon as I can. I found some leftover candy canes in my pantry when I was purging it yesterday, maybe that is why I was in the mood for a Christmas cozy.

Librarybelle Yay for one more cozy! Thank you for participating! 5y
ferskner Oooooo the mysterious father! I can't wait to get caught up to this one! 5y

This was one of the weaker books in the series. After you deduct the recipes, it probably tops out at about 140 pages (much of which is dialogue used strictly as a device to set up the recipes). There's very little in the way of actual plot. It was all right, but it certainly wasn't great and despite the title didn't feel the least bit festive. It's a big meh for me.

This was a quick enjoyable read with very yummy recipes that I can't wait to try. This is part of a series but I had no trouble reading it without having read all of the other books leading up to it. #cozymystery #christmas

If you need a quick easy and a lil sappy holiday read you can check it out. I've read 20 of her sweet murder mysteries and this one ranks at the bottom for me, but I like holiday reads so I jumped on it. #Christmasread #sweetmurdermystery

During the Holidays, do you read Holiday books that are part of a series if you have not read the series? I read a few of the Joanne Fluke books many years ago and there are others released since then that I haven't read. Wondering how much that effects the readability of the Holiday books. Also, has anyone read either of these? Trying fo figure out which to read first, lol.

Traci1 I recently read The Gingerbread Cookie Murder book which had 3 Christmas themed cozy novellas. One was part of the Hannah Swenson story, which I have read most of, but the other two were part of series (serieses?) that I've not read. I didn't enjoy those as much, but I can't say for sure if it's because I was less familiar with them or they just weren't as good. Not sure if that helps you. 5y

I love the Hanna Swensen books. Love. them.... I‘ve spent this month catching up on them. 6 books in the last 5 weeks, then I got to this one. I really disliked this book. It made no sense in the placement of books. It really missed the mark with me. I‘m well into the next one now and it seems back on track and her new one comes out at the end of February. Looking forward to it.

Although lighthearted, fun and an extremely fast read (with some great looking recipes thrown in), there was just a little too much fluff for my taste. But it works for the #booked2018 #cozymystery prompt and is the first book read for my #mounttbr climb, so for that I‘m grateful. 😊 #book1 #climbingmountvancouver

BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds like sugar rush - fun while it lasts but not much lasting benefit. Congrats on your giveaway entry! 6y

Last couple of books in this series makes me think the author is losing interest. Really short. No Andrea at all; Norman makes token appearance.

In this latest Hannah Swensen mystery, Hannah recounts a murder that took place in Lake Eden the previous Christmas. Lots of recipes in this short story. Always great to visit the characters of Lake Eden, Minnesota. Can't wait for the next in the series!

Short story of Hannah telling Ross about the murder the Christmas before they got married. I really wished she had married Mike or Norman.
