Definitely listen to this as an audiobook, Jen is hilariously entertaining and motivating. She definitely makes you want to get your crap together and live the life you want to live. The greatest takeaway is the notion to stop making excuses and doubting your greatness and do whatever you want to do in this life.

This book won't be for everyone. While it wasn't a traditional self help book, it does have a lot of self help vibes, and at the time I read it, honestly, it was what I needed to hear. Jen Sincero uses blunt honesty and personal stories to basically get across that - sometimes shit happens. But we are all capable of moving on and shaking things up to improve our ways of thinking and our bad habits. I would like to read more by her 🤗

Incredible read. This book hands down moved me in so many ways. I've recommended it to all who will listen.

Keeping it light but hitting all the hard spots - Jen takes us through the importance of self-love and manifesting everything you desire.

With her hilarious experiences and delightful persona injected in every page, it reads more like a memoir than a self-help book. It's something I will happily read again and soon.

Listen, if you are going to treat yourself to a pedicure you have to bring a book to read. My book just happens to be supper appropriate for the occasion. 😜 This book was okay, I didn‘t necessarily agree with EVERY chapter, but there were some nuggets of wisdom tucked in there. It was also a NYTimes best seller so I get to put it in my checklist for #bbrc #growup challenge!

My current reading pile (left) and my to be read pile (right). A mix of pleasure reading, school-prep reading, book club reading, and #BBRC reading. I have to admit, I am not sure if it is summer break (which is nearly over) or being on Litsy but I feel like I have been reading MORE lately.

This has been making the rounds so I figured I'd pick it up to see what the fuss was about. Read as an audiobook, I guess it's alright. For me, there wasn't anything in here that I hadn't heard before in a variety of other books but if you're someone who needs a kick in the pants to remind you that you are awesome and can achieve what you desire without some of the froofiness found in some self-help books, this would be a great place to start.

Can‘t recommend this book enough and happy that the @24in48 readathon helped me to make time to finish it! Jen‘s style of writing is fun and to the point and she just feels like that no-nonsense loving friend that tells it like it is while supporting you, encouraging you and reminding you that you‘re a queen! And now it‘s bedtime for me cuz I have work in about 8 hours 🙃 and I want to read before I go in. #24in48

I will forever encourage people to read this, especially if they‘re going through a rough time. This book makes it difficult to be interested in reading any other book, knowing it won‘t be the same. While reading the very last few pages, I had a lightbulb moment-and decided exactly what I want to do with my life. Coincidence? I think not!

I haven't read many self help books and I didn't get any ground breaking info from this one. It was entertaining and I enjoyed it. Sometimes people need reminders of how to be great and ways to remember that they are great. This book does that for you. A quick read. #Loveyourself

It was an good audiobook. Nothing you haven't heard from a self-help book before, but I liked the examples she gave; more current. And I loved her less than perfect reading. It doesn't warrant a second listen, but it was still pretty cool.

This book reminds me of a This American Life podcast that centers around InspiroBot. “The software that Peder Jørgensen and Jesper Sundnes created generates slogans that are sometimes funny but often weirdly insightful and – is this a bad word to use? – sort of profound.” There were certainly nuggets that were borderline profound, but did I need to read a book that could have been easily created by a bot? ??

Drocchio03 https://www.thisamericanlife.org/extras/why-i-love-inspirobot /// And as other readers have mentioned, it‘s basically The Secret with sass and without the odd old-timey layout. Lastly, her take on money is ... interesting. (edited) 6mo

I have very little experience with self-help books. So it‘s probably unfair for me to say that there‘s nothing new here. Topics include: connecting to a higher power, positive affirmations, and the benefits of meditation. I thought it might be interesting, but it wasn‘t for me.

This is such an awesome book. It hit the right spot for me. I am not a huge fan of self help books, but I don't classify this as one. I would call it a self realization book. Along f with telling so many good things about how to be compassionate and let things go, she spoke about so many scientific reasons why. I listened to this book. I would totally give it a few re-runs.

A very readable book (found some typos though!). A lot of the manifesting talk reminded me of The Secret along with the vision board ideas. I also strangely enough got some Eat Pray Love vibes from it (if a little more realistic and less like a story). It was quick, pretty fun, and I‘ll definitely be applying some of this to my life.

Bookclub pick for March. Not something I'd pick out on my own, but should bee fun and quick.

AutumnRLS Not a fan. There were some things I found particularly troubling. Truth is objective. I understand the theory behind manifesting one's dreams, but refusing to acknowledge reality in favor of what you want to be true is crap. Also, bad stuff happens. I didn't get cancer because I had a bad attitude. Having a good attitude doesn't guarantee anything. Girl, check your privilege. 8mo

Currently listening to.

I read a great article recently about self-help industry manipulation and how self-help books do not teach us self-love... but since I‘m still trying to change certain things in my life, I‘ll continue to reach for some handholding.

#selfhelp

jmofo I‘m super picky about the self help books I pick up and even fewer get finished but there is wisdom and kindness out there and not always in people‘s immediate circles. It‘s like anything else we humans do, sometimes terrible and sometimes magical. 10mo
SkeletonKey @jmofo - Agreed. I try to remember that my expectations bring as much to the plate as these types of things do so my mind also needs to be open and more optimistic. 10mo

Quick and funny motivational read, but a little too "out there" for my tastes. The author's advice always boils down to "trust in God/the universe" and "visualize the life you want and you'll have it."
