Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy are helping me through my illness. And my spouse is pleased that quarantining means that I'm watching it by myself.(He was not impressed with the Jane Eyre movie a couple of weeks ago. Can you believe that I married a person who doesn't know the difference between Mr Darcy and Mr Rochester?)

Susanita I hope you feel better soon. 5d

Yes," replied Darcy, who could contain himself no longer, "but that was only when I first saw her, for it is many months since I have considered her as one of the handsomest women of my acquaintance." Chapter 45

Crinoline_Laphroaig Jane Austen Ten Pound note had just been released when we were in UK. I had to go to several banks to find one. Lovely ladies at the Gretna branch of Royal Bank of Scotland found me one.

Thought I had lost her in the fire. When recovering things from ruins, niece sat with a stack water logged copies of Pride and Prejudice. She patiently pulled apart soggy pages until she found her. Once she dried out, she was fine just a bit singed. 💷

But she had chosen it with her eyes open; and though evidently regretting that her visitors were to go, she did not seem to ask for compassion. Crinoline_Laphroaig Found this edition a Library Book Sale for a quarter. It's been horribly Americanized. Changed the famous openly line: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." to "It is a fact everyone agrees that a young man with money should have a wife."? 3w

1. If I HAD to change my name, I might pick the name of my grandmother who was an avid reader and go with Elizabeth.

2. And that would take me to one of the all-time great Elizabeths, Elizabeth Bennet, in one of the all-time great books, Pride and Prejudice.

I'm a big fan of rereading so this list could be very long but here are my top three comfort rereads:

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
2. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
3. Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

They all have different vibes depending on what mood I'm in ☺️

I did it! I finished P&P, probably my only classic for the year.

I know there are a lot of folks who love Austen, and I can see why. I find classics challenging to read, but the personalities of Lizzie and Darcy were funny and genuine enough to pull me through.

Thank you #AuthorAMonth readers for voting Austen one of this year‘s authors and inspiring me to give this a try. I will say I didn‘t love it, but I am glad I read it.

Having heard me say, more than once or twice, that Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books EVER, my daughter decided to read it…and then she said she was going to read Great Expectations after it, that she wanted to read classics to slow her brain down and do something other than homework. Seeing an opportunity to reread a favorite, I suggested we do a buddy read and she agreed! Looking forward to reading and talking about it with her…

I feel like in all the Pride and Prejudice series/film adaptations I've watched (1995/2005) I only thought of Mr. Bingley as “just nice“ but in the book, it's more apparent that he IS nice but, he is also very sincere. I guess It's very hard to capture sincerity on the screen, without actually showing it, though there are hardly any circumstances for him to do that, without it just reading as politeness. That's the beauty of books as a medium.
