Bailedbailed

Unfortunately bailing on this one for now. I might try the ebook once my hoopla borrows reset for May, but I've been slogging through this audiobook. I'm a third of the way and feel like barely anything has happened. Has anyone else read this one? Does the pace pick up at all?
I'm bummed because it was doing some cool things inverting the Darcy/Elizabeth characters that I was excited to see explored
#JaneAustenThenAndNow

Crinoline_Laphroaig Looked up my Goodreads Review. Bailed on this series awhile back. Liked parts of this one. Especially the food! Antagonism between main characters went on way too long. Also it was unbelievable how Dr. Trisha just blithely told any and everyone who asked about her patient's condition. Privacy??? 9h
Crinoline_Laphroaig Whole cousin who 'saw the future' was a weird addition. Also handling of the 'Big Secret' was problematic. 9h
peanutnine @Crinoline_Laphroaig thank you for the validation! I don't feel as bad for giving up now. The antagonism between the main couple was way harsh! And I didn't like how Trisha's family treated her 2h

#Baturalitsy #HyggeHourReadathon

For tonight‘s #HyggeHour I‘ll be reading Mouse House for #ChildrensClassicRead2025 & with the remaining time, more of the tagged book for #JaneAustenThenAndNow

I‘m drinking pineapple lemonade (it‘s humid tonight) & having some of this lemon cake bomb that I got at the bakery near the bookstore on Saturday. 😋🍋💛

Mood is tired & not ready for Monday at all. I‘ll be heading to Kona very early tomorrow. 😵‍💫

Lesliereadsalot The lemon cake bomb…yum! (edited) 2d

A queer retelling of Emma with a Bridgerton flair and solid historical references (Dido Belle, Anne Lister). Ellie is very close to her neighbor Georgiana (who prefers to dress in a masculine style and is known as George). We also look at her cousin Charlotte and how differently she is treated due to her mixed race heritage.
I enjoyed this, the fashions, the depictions of beautiful historical spaces (Vauxhall Gardens and Temple of the Muses).

Finished my official 'Now' read, although I read/watched a lot more. (Post to come.) Yes there was a lot of verbatim Pride and Prejudice but overall I found it fun. Particularly loved the additional art work.

CaramelLunacy The artwork was gorgeous, wasn't it? The sketch from the caverns! 2d

It's interesting to see how each P&P retelling incorporates that famous first line. This one is so cheeky, with just a nod to the original. Love it

Jane and I spent yesterday making scones and watching all 6 hrs of 1995 Pride and Prejudice. It was wonderful. 🎩

I didn't realize going in this was a parody. I don't usually enjoy that genre, so that undoubtedly affects my rating. This was ok, but the over-the-top farce elements didn't work for me. Probably just a wrong-reader situation. This was my 2nd adaptation of P&P for this month's #JaneAustenThenandNow challenge. @Crinoline_Laphroaig

I'm so glad I finally made myself read this one! Not only did I fall for all of the below-stairs personalities, I appreciated the great perspective on what it takes to keep the Bennets sisters in clean petticoats and shoe roses. I loved that we got to see glimpses of Lizzy after her marriage, too, and of course some closure for our heroine Sarah. If you've not read it, #PemberLittens, don't wait as long as I did! #JaneAustenThenAndNow

mcctrish I loved this book! 1w
