Memories of Ice
Memories of Ice: Book Three of The Malazan Book of the Fallen | Steven Erikson
The ravaged continent of Genabackis has given birth to a terrifying new empire: the Pannion Domin. Like a tide of corrupted blood, it seethes across the land, devouring all. In its path stands an uneasy alliance: Onearm's army and Whiskeyjack's Bridgeburners alongside their enemies of old--the forces of the Warlord Caladan Brood, Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii mages, and the Rhivi people of the plains. But ancient undead clans are also gathering; the T'lan Imass have risen. For it would seem something altogether darker and more malign threatens this world. Rumors abound that the Crippled God is now unchained and intent on a terrible revenge. Marking the return of many characters from Gardens of the Moon and introducing a host of remarkable new players, Memories of Ice is both a momentous new chapter in Steven Erikson's magnificent epic fantasy and a triumph of storytelling.

The reason why I keep coming back to the Malazan series is the relationship and discussion between the characters the is presented in these beautiful books… I really love how you see them care for one another and still joke around about life‘s problems to get through the hard times 🤗📖🥰

Next up. The last book fucked me up, I was not emotionally ready for the last 200 pages.

I finished this on the last day of the #TomeTopple #readathon! I finally hit a turning point midway in this 3rd Malazan Book of the Fallen volume, where I retained enough knowledge of the characters and the world that reading became more enjoyable and less challenging. Now I'm torn between reading the 4th book and rereading the first two to get the details that I'd invariably missed earlier! Am I a glutton for punishment?

One thing I love about my Kobo Clara is that I can prop it up and knit while reading. Here's a great quote from Memories of Ice about a group of people switching their loyalties to a new god: “Must be Jhess, then. Mistress of Weavings. They're all taking up knitting, but fiercely--“. It's meant as a joke, but I would pledge loyalty to Jhess, if paying tribute involved knitting fiercely! #knittersoflitsy

rabbitprincess I love that cool blue yarn! 💙 4y
kwmg40 @rabbitprincess Thanks! My niece asked for birthday socks and she chose the yarn. She has good taste. 4y

The Dramatis Personae list for the third Malazan Book of the Fallen book takes up 5 pages and includes 115 characters! The best word to describe it is “awesome“, in all its meanings.

I'm reading steadily through this book for the #TomeTopple #readathon and am about halfway through.

It's a big #readathon weekend, with the #MrBook1InAMillion event. I also see that two weeks of #tometopple will be beginning soon. I've never participated in Tome Topple, but I wonder if it'll motivate me to get through more of the #Malazan series. I really liked the first two books but they were not easy reads!

I swear I'll get to the #Malazan series some day! It's quite the intimidating series. So far I've only read the first 2 and that was quite awhile ago. For now I'm just happy I have a book for #Noteworthynovember #memories
#fantasy

mahasoor YES! These books! I'm obsessed with this world. Check out some of Ian C Esslemont's stuff, he writes in the same universe. 6y

This was my favorite book in the epic Malazan Book of the Fallen, although I paused at book 5. Maybe time to pick it up again!

#noteworthynovember #memories

JazzFeathers I couldn't go past book 1. Really too many words for everything 😩 6y
Jovy @JazzFeathers The only reason I made it thru 5 books is because I joined a Goodreads group reading the series. Otherwise I‘d have been lost — too many characters and moving parts! 😄 6y

Wow this is getting really epic.
Points for the author for the description of war - even though this is a fantasy series, the horrors of war and it's influence on the characters is very well depicted!
Also, this has one of the most mysterious magic systems I've ever encountered.

Hey Littens,
I have not been very active here lately so I have a question for all of you, since I missed the last two months:
What were your favorite books for June, July or August? Any new releases I missed?
I'm excited to know what everyone has been reading!

Megabooks I liked American Fire. 7y
Sue Nice to have you back! I'm pretty stoked about this new release 7y

DuckOfDoom @Sue I still have to read the second one, but I always postpone it😣 The series is over after the third book, right? Maybe this will motivate me 7y
DuckOfDoom @Lindy This looks really cool! I will keep it in mind 😄 7y
DuckOfDoom @Lizpixie I really want to read more crime fiction but somehow I always end up reading science fiction/ fantasy ... 😂 7y

An apt narrative of our troubled time. "The lesson was hard, not easily swallowed, for the truth was this: there were intelligent beings in the world who exploited the virtues of others, their compassion, their love, their faith in kin. Exploited, and mocked. How many Imass tribes discovered that their gods were in fact Jaghut Tyrants? Hidden behind friendly masks. Tyrants. Who manipulated them with the weapon of faith." #resist

Almost finished with my very battered copy of the 3rd book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series! Does anyone else read (and love) this series?!

mahasoor I am obsessed with this series. Erikson, and to a lesser extent his friend Esslemont, have ruined me to other epic fantasy sagas lol. Such an incredible series and SO well written. It took me a bit to find my footing and get really into it because I'm used to a four book tedious buildup (looking at you WoT eesh) instead of being immediately thrown into the action but omfg I love it. 8y
mahasoor wall o' text 😹 I love this series. I could go on for days. 8y
