Pg 148. “Humanity has feared the dark since time immemorial, and yet humanity has never experienced the dark, because it wasn‘t until recently—the age of cunning hands and clever machines—that the dark had been anything more than a whispering legend, a rumor of a nightmare.”

MidnightBookGirl I just finished a re-read of this book, and loved it just as much as the first time, if not more! 2d
MsRadioSilence @MidnightBookGirl you did this to me. I wholeheartedly blame by newfound obsession with this book on you and the audiobook. 2d

Pg 141. “Humanity had chosen the land over the sea millennia ago, and sometimes [...] she thought the sea still held a grudge. Breakups were never easy, and while humanity was hot and fast and had had plenty of time to get over it, the oceans were deep and slow, and for them all change had happened only yesterday. The seas did not forgive, and they did not welcome their wayward children home.”

This has easily risen to my top five favorite books PEROID. What is real? A story combing the fantastic, grief, women, and the water.

Pg 139. “Asking scientists not to look into an open box was like asking cats not to saunter through an open door. It simply wasn‘t practical.”

So I finished this one just before we left Italy and holy stars. I really hope there‘s a sequel because it was just too good! The characters were super rich, I loved the writing style, and the reimagined mermaids will give me nightmares for weeks. Grant doesn‘t pull any punches, and reading this will keep you on the shore long after the book ends.

Mermurder time again! An entertainment company sends out a “documentary” crew to prove the existence of mermaids, even if they have to bring their own.

Now, usually, I hate prequels. Knowing where the characters end up, there‘s only so much dramatic irony I can handle in a story. This is one of the few exceptions that answers questions I had and ones I didn‘t know I had, as well as providing me with interesting/diverse characters. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

chaoticgoodhufflepuff @mariaku21 I highly recommend it! It‘s a short novella, and prequel to a longer book that I also loved and recommend! 3w
mariaku21 @chaoticgoodhufflepuff Well I'm just going to have to look up that one too! Thank you! 3w

bookandcat Love the pot! Also love Mira Grant too! Do you prefer her work as Grant or as Seanan McGuire? Feed trilogy is still my fave overall I think 3w
chaoticgoodhufflepuff @bookandcat To be honest, I haven‘t read enough of her Grant work to really make that decision. I will say though that the new book for her Wayward series is the book I am most excited for in 2020! 3w
