Joan Didion was very sad and lonely when she wrote this. But her writing is so beautiful.

We found this absolutely riveting book on our apartment block swap shelf. It's a book my partner chose as it's not one that I would have picked myself. While some parts were a little far fetched the story itself was very tense and mostly believable. The anguish of the missing girls mother was conveyed in such away that the anxiety and anger felt by her was effectively passed on to the reader. For edge of the seat reading, it's excellent.👌

Mehso-so

This is my first Didion and I wish that it wasn‘t. I felt like it was all over the place and at times very hard to follow but I‘m thinking that someone suffering with acute grief would probably behave like this. But I think I‘m struggling with this because she is considered such an accomplished writer. I felt that it was quite often too vague where her daughter was concerned, especially when she was an adult. ⬇️

Rissreads I wanted to know her on a much deeper level. Loosing a child is unimaginable and I felt devastated for her especially the anguish she felt, questioning herself, if she was a good mother or not. I‘m definitely going to read The year of magical thinking next. I‘m hoping the writing blows me away as it has for so many others. 3mo
MrsMalaprop Haven‘t read this one. Hopefully you‘ll have a better experience with Year of Magical Thinking 🤞 3mo
Jeg I have this on my TBR shelf because I loved her magical thinking book so much. I think maybe you need to read that. It really does come before this one. I'm thinking it might explain a lot about where she was coming from in this one. 3mo

This book is about a daughter who goes missing while delivering her paper route on the day of her departure to Florida for a holiday. Her mother calls the police but to no avail and is forced to search for Charlie (Charlotte) herself. It takes place on one day and the book is about her mother searching for her daughter.

EadieB She calls her boyfriend and they search together. Then she finds out her husband lied and he becomes a suspect. I'm not going to tell you what happens next as you will have to read it to find out. If you love suspense with your thriller then you will love this book. (edited) 4mo

In this world where children are being bombarded with sex, perverse ideologies, and absent fathers, this book is a cry from the walls for dads to step up and in. We have to engage. We are (outside of the heavenly Father) the role model for their future husbands. We have a direct effect on the course of their life. Be there. Fight for your daughter. Great resource for any dad.

Birthday so far. Wanted to read this Joan Didion book after reading her book The Year of Magical Thinking. Never read an Iain Banks and I've been told this is a good one. I'm a big Frida Kahlo fan. This is a graphic novel. The other two are the kids books I've reviewed already. Just love the reading lady. I'm enjoying the sunshine in a sheltered place. It's a bit chilly today despite the sunshine.

Centique Look at that reading lady figurine! Shes so cool 😍 8mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I picked this book up at the library on a whim. It turned out to be so good I bought a copy. It's now required reading for our family. The author does such a good job of presenting truth in a practical way to help equip parents to do their job.
