Interesting title for sure

What a great story! I don‘t know why I waited so long to read it. Now I want to read more of Lin‘s books; her writing style is so clear and lyrical. I felt like I was falling right into a folktale (my favorite!). Minli‘s adventures were thrilling without being scary, and the multiple stories-within-the-story were lovely. This is my #63 for #Roll100 because I already read #62.
Started both of these today, the tagged for myself and the Penderwicks with the kiddo. I spent most of the day cooking, doing laundry, and cleaning up the kitchen messes, though, so I feel like I barely read a page. Ok, I‘m 90 pages into the first and we‘re 26 pages into the second, but it FEELS like nothing…
A beautiful written book where folklore and reality intersect… it felt like a love story to the Chinese culture! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This girl ❤️ She‘s going back to school in person tomorrow and let me know that even though she didn‘t need a book she packed two just in case she gets bored.
This is a great trilogy, especially as a read aloud option for a child. I enjoyed Where the Mountain Meets the Moon the best but all three are well worth the read.

1. Cat person.
2. I'm grateful for the incredible weather we've had in between two heat waves. Bracing myself for temps in the 100s this weekend. Wildfire season is not my favorite time of year.

This is a short and lovely listen. It reads like a fable and I quite enjoyed it.
Two #mountains books I have on my shelves. Loved the tagged book, the other still tbr.

Delightful book about a young girl seeking fortune where story and reality intersect. My son (age 10.5) has read this one several times and has been wanting me to read it for a while. He's been reading primarily nonfiction about war lately, and it's nice to see that tales like this still draw him in.

Audio-vacuum-repair. I now associate dragons and goldfish with the innards of my vacuum.

This one has it all! Chinese folklore, fantasy, female lead character, adventure, perfect for upcoming 4th-6th grade. The downside; I learned while reading it that one of the local elementary schools read it as a class. So, I‘ll put this to the side and continue my hunt for my summer book club books. I‘m glad I read this one though!
Starting this month‘s #homeschoolbookclub reread a whole week before our meeting! This has to be a record-setting demonstration of responsibility for me 🙄#kidlit #reread #audiobook
Such beautiful illustrations in a beautifully written kids book. I love how the author wove Chinese folklore into her story.
Current bedtime reading for the 10 and 7 year old. We loved When the Sea Turns to Silver and this one is proving to be just as charming.
I think the kids may ask for a goldfish by the end of the book.
I listened to this charming, imaginative story on audio, but plan to get a hard copy for the lovely illustrations and to read aloud with my 8-year-old—I think he will love it.
Minli‘s adventure is chock-full of Chinese folktales, colorful characters, and sweet messages. Lots of fun to listen to!
This was my #DiverseMiddleGrade choice for #Booked2019.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Grace Lin does a wonderful job of writing a captivating tale and creating beautiful illustrations. This‘s a fantasy story blend with Chinese folklores, and a heroic adventure of a spirited young girl. Weaving together traditional stories and imagination of her own, Lin has invented an enchanting tale of self discovery, sacrifice, friendship, and faith..and timeless moral lessons. Rightly deserves the Newbery Honor‘s nod. Total Pick!
I am liking this book, each chapter starts with a little illustration on the top, and intersperses with beautiful full page illustration. ❤️
Finished this book for #bookchallengebyerin10 for my Newberry Award prompt. I love how the story had different stories tied into it plus the illustrations were beautiful. I've already checked out another book by the author. I love fairy tales and I want to branch out of my comfort zone this year. I want to learn more Chinese stories since I have family who live there.
A lovely change of pace from my typical european fairy tales and a beautiful introduction to Chinese fables. Minli‘s quest and various meet-ups along the way frame a collection of fables covering creation myths to morality tales with magic and dragons and goldfish (oh, my!).
Also contains gorgeous illustrations. No surprise this won the Newbery Honor award! It‘s that rare book that makes me want to immediately turn back to page one for a reread...
I went to the store to return something and wound up buying a book... oops?

I‘m reading them all out of order, but so far this is my favorite of the three books in this series by Grace Lin. They‘re intertwined, with overlapping stories and recurring motifs, but you can really read them in any order. The main narrative of Minli and Dragon moves fairly slowly, but that‘s almost beside the point— like the characters, you‘re there for the stories told and retold amidst the action. This would be a great read aloud. ⛰🌙🐉👧🏻
@Graciouswarriorprincess Anna!!!!! Thank you so much for your generous heart sweet heart! These are some awesome titles that the kids will love!!! I love the Book Scavenger!!! That‘s a perfect one! They will all be a huge hit! I know the teacher Erin is just going to be blown away by you!!! I can‘t say thank you enough!!! ❤️❤️😘😘#HelpingHearts
I‘ve had a student request that I add this book to my classroom library and has stopped by every morning for the last couple weeks to ask if I had it yet. I‘ve put her off long enough—time to listen to this sweet, persistent kiddo! #TeachersofLitsy
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a F novel inspired by Chinese folklore. It is written and illustrated by: Grace Lin. This Newbery and Mythopoeic award winning is about a girl‘s journey to find the Old Man of the Moon to ask him how she can change her family‘s fortune. Along the way she encounters an assorted cast of characters and magical creatures. And at the end she understands something that I won‘t tell you. You should read the book 😁

Minle is the only child of a very poor couple. They work hard everyday, but never seem to do better. Only fun is when Ba (dad) tells stories, and Ma doesn't enjoy them because she thinks they are a waste of time. Minle is determined to help her parents and runs away to bring back luck and fortune. She has many adventures while Ma and Ba worry. All three find out what the important things in life are. Will be reading this to my class this year!
The writing in this story is so impressive, how all the intricate details wove together to tell this beautiful story. The different characters on each step of Minli's journey were lovely as were the tie-ins to Chinese folklore. Loved reading this #ownvoices #middlegrade book and look forward to recommending it to my students this next school year. #TeachersofLitsy
Book 5 of summer
Today was a pretty darn good day for this book loving teacher: we had an author visit from Grace Lin! She gave an amazing and engaging presentation, and our 4th graders were enthralled (they have been reading Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, which is fantastic if you haven't read it yet). Bonus: she signed copies of her books for us! I got one of each, of course! And I think many Littens will understand this feeling...⬇️
Maybe you've heard rumours that this Newbery Honor book is pretty great? I've been recommending it for years but I finally read it and it's pretty amazing.
This book is so lovely in so many ways! So glad to finally be reading it.
Delightful #Newbery Honor winning interweaving of Chinese folktales that just managed to lose out to Rebecca Stead's "When You Reach Me" for 2010's top prize.
Here are my November reads. I really only read one "adult novel" this month. The other 5 consisted of 2 reads for my job, 2 YA novels, and a comic book. I am resigning myself to my new reading normal, with the new job. However, I am looking forward to having a bit more personal reading time in December. I finished the #ReadHarder Challenge this past month, which is a worthwhile endeavor. I can't wait to see the 2017 list! #novemberreads
#kickassheroines #seasonsreadings2016 Minli is a supremely plucky and resourceful girl. @RealLifeReading
Teaching books include our latest readaloud book (Where the Mountain Meets the Moon) and two Cinderella adaptations since we are studying fairy tale writing in writer's workshop. Personal books include November and December @ForeverYoungAdult picks, kickass black women past and present, and my first full-cast audiobook.
This is a wonderful story with beautiful occasional illustrations. It seems like a simple children's story, but it has multiple layers that will please adults as well. This book made me very nostalgic for the short time I spent in China. This would be a great book to read aloud with kids.
When you come across a picture of the author in a book and you instantly realize you stood in the exact same spot where you see the author! Grace Lin is standing in the Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai, China. This is one of my most favorite places.
I love getting to read books that have great occasional illustrations like this one.

Here's a lovely book I recommend for children around ages 9 to 10 years - a Chinese fairy tale about an adventurous girl who searches for the Old Man of the Moon in hopes of changing the fortune of her poor family. Memorable characters, reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz. @RealLifeReading
Definitely my favorite book with a dragon and in my top 5 most gorgeous books. And, well, just one of my all-time favorite MG books ever. If you need a little #SelfCare, this would be a great read. #photoadaynov16 #herebedragons
My 3rd graders were absolutely enthralled with this charming Wizard-of-Oz-esque tale rooted in Chinese mythology. Minli, along with a dragon who can't fly that she befriends along the way, sets off on an adventure to find the Old Man of the Moon and change her family's poor fortune. The stories-within-the-story format, illustrations, variety of interesting characters, and themes of hope and and gratitude made this a wonderful readaloud choice.
When you order a book through Interlibrary Loan, and somehow end up with a set of books instead of just a single book! Luckily, I know some people who may want to read this with me. Also, it's cool to discover that I can get sets of books! #interlibraryloan #teacherlife #teachersoflitsy #bookclub
