Whatever comes," she said, "cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.

I read this Jan 18-19 and gave it 4 ⭐️. This was a reread for me. It‘s a delightful if moralistic story. I find the older I get, the harder time I have with the moralistic element but I still like Sara Crewe and her imagination.

#2 This story is about a little girl named Sara Crewe. Sara‘s rich father drops her off at Miss Minchin‘s Select Seminary for girls. While gone on a business trip her father dies of jungle fever while also losing all his money on an investment in the diamond mines. When Sara loses her wealth she must live as a servant in the cold attic. Sara proves that a real princess takes heart and hope not luxuries. This book is a quick read and super cute!

MissYaremcio This book seems to be reminiscent of Anne! Don't forget to include all elements of the assignment, you were missing the reccomendation! 3mo

I used to have this movie on VHS and would watch it over and over. After finishing the book, I can appreciate the 1995 movie. I liked the difference of story lines between the movie and the book. It was a heart warming read and I‘m glad I was able to revisit a piece of my childhood.

I don‘t think I‘ll ever tire of this childhood gem!

Despite some offensive classism and racism due to this book being a product of its time, the strong character of Sara and the influence she had on me as a child holds true. Sara Crewe taught me boundless imagination, unfaltering optimism, resilient diligence, and constant selflessness.

The magic of childhood imagination need never fade as we age! That is one message I hope to remember.

I had mixed feelings about this book. As an adult, I was put off by some things and wondered how this is something small children read. I never read this as a child and I think that I would have appreciated it more. 3 out of 5.

#jazzyjune @Eggs #wonderfulchild made me think of A Little Princess. I absolutely loved the 90s movie and took the VHS out of the library often. Then I found the Shirley Temple version and I like that one as well. I recently found this copy of the book so it‘s been added to my TBR. Shout out to my husband for holding the books patiently until I got the right angle 🤗

A Little Princess was one of my favourite book as a child. I re-read it recently and I still love it. Sarah and her stoic belief in being good no matter what is still inspiring to me.

#SpiceUpYourLife reminds me of the spices used in Indian dishes, which reminds me of ‘A Little Princess‘ as it starts with Sara and her father leaving India for England. Sara also uses her imagination to “spice up” her own life, even when she appears destitute.

“It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it”. 👸🏻

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett (TL) is a heartwarming story that can be enjoyed by everyone. Sara Crewe is accustomed to a lavish life of wealth and luxury, and then she is thrust into a life of poverty after her father suddenly dies. Sara preservers with her active imagination and incredible spirit, this book is must read for everyone. #LAE3424sp19

audrey.wilson https://www.trueaimeducation.com/little-princess-book-study/ I do believe everyone could enjoy this story, it is very “girly,” so I would offer The Little Princess as an LC option. This link is to a simple, yet thorough lesson plan on following and analyzing The Little Princess. 10mo
audrey.wilson UDL strategy 9.2, facilitate personal coping skills and strategies, aligns perfectly with this story. Sara must cope with the death of her father and her extreme poverty, and she copes through her friend Becky and her imagination. ESOL 38, assign short readings for homework, I would assign a constructed research for the students while they are reading this book. I would have them research things like boarding school, poverty, wills, etc. 10mo
kennedimartin That‘s such a cute picture with the stuffed bunny :) 10mo
cwright Even though it‘s “girly” like you said, I think the concept would be well-understood by all if carried out carefully like in your lesson plan! 10mo
DrSpalding Sad story. Nice alignment to the principles and strategies. 9mo

For me, this is definitely a childhood favorites, and I still enjoy reading it from time to time.
The story of Sara Crewe, and her privileged life, is not a new one. But the fact that she is a very loving, caring, down to earth, young girl is. Despite the circumstances, Sara is an inspiration to children everywhere, and whether rich or poor, she still shone through, as a true childhood hero.

The difficulty will be to keep her from learning too fast and too much. She is always sitting with her little nose burrowing into books. She doesn't read them...she gobbles them up as if she were a little wolf instead of a little girl. She is always starving for new books to gobble....

She did not care very much for other little girls, but if she had plenty of books she could console herself. She liked books more than anything else, and was, in fact, always inventing stories of beautiful things and telling them to herself.

This was one of my favorite books growing up and rereading it has shown me why. A beautiful story that can admittedly be a bit preachy but lands nevertheless. Frances Hodgson Burnett has this amazing ability to create characters that feel both real and unreachable at the same time and this is always what endears them to me.
