There seems to be a bit of a theme in the books I've been reading lately. Three of the five either have crown in the title or on the cover. I didn't plan this, it just happened.

For January‘s #AuthorAMonth, I chose the first book in this children‘s series by Ursula (aka T. Kingfisher) in honor of my childhood pet hamster Squeaky. ☺️It‘s a sweet retelling (with a hilariously fun “girl power” twist!) of the Sleeping Beauty tale. Loved Ursula‘s spunky heroine Harriet, her cool illustrations and witty sense of humor. Will definitely be reading more! 🙌🏻

The day began as a beautiful and vivid dream. It was one of those rare days when the sun was out, and the light was soft and warm, Easter yellow. We were in the garden, just my mother and me; Mary had gone out with father, but my mother was eight months pregnant and tired, so I had stayed to keep her company.

🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 Great little romance with wonderful commentary on heroism and expectations. My brother gave me this for Christmas as well as this adorable Elphaba funko pop and book sticker!

The hurt/comfort scenes were hurting and comforting, the slow burn was slowly incinerating, the love triangle was a triangle. Jory pissed me off sometimes, but she has a good starting point for some real development. Give me moreeeeee nowwwww

This book was so much fun!
A medieval retelling of Legally Blonde was something I never knew I needed! I‘m a huge Legally Blonde fan but I never realized that it could be retold in such a unique way. As a retelling, it worked very well. The original characters were translated very well. Clía, the female lead, definitely gave Elle Woods vibes.

“…Captain Zane rides to the top of the hill…After a moment, his horse whirls, and he jogs down to us.” 🤔
I had to look up horse movements: walk, trot, canter, gallop, lope, pace, amble, rack, tolt, (wait, there‘s more!) piaffe, passage, gait, cadence, and, jog!!! Well, I visualize and I just had an image of a horse in a tank top, shorts, and a terry cloth headband stuck in my head. Jogging. (Yes, I‘m weird) 🏃♀️🐎🏃♂️ 🤭🤣😝

Times are difficult and a small kingdom in southern France needs to forge an alliance with another. The King‘s solution is to marry Princess Tullia to an odious prince, but she wants nothing to do with this plan. The court magician, Anatole is torn. He has always looked after Tullia, but he is beholden to the King. A series of magical mishaps send the two on the run, but their flight may be doomed. This story was a magical 3/5 ⭐️ read.

“I‘m sorry,” I said, bracing myself for the inevitable backlash. When my Selection started, I‘d pictured it ending this way—with dozens of my suitors leaving at a time, many of them unprepared for their moment in the spotlight to be over.
