Very good. Well written. Not quite as good as I hoped. I held it high on my list until just now I was reminded about #BadBlood that blew every other book out of the water.
Chapter one, you got me hook, line, and sinker. #26 for the year
If you‘re into crime thrillers you‘ll love this book! The first two days of the book keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who did it. It does focus on more of the crimes rather than the whodunit. Halfway though the book I started guessing who did it and surprisingly I was right.
I haven‘t made significant process in this book, but it isn‘t because I don‘t like it. So far it‘s probably the best book of 2019 for me. I read about 60 pages like breathing air, but then I have to take about two days in between. Maybe it‘s because the characters are so fleshed out that it feels like I am reading something very private? I am excited to see how it ends up, but I am not in a rush.
So first off I had to learn what the heck hyperbaric oxygen therapy is as it's a big plot point in the book. When an HBOT experience takes a dramatic turn that takes two lives, an investigation ensues. When the focus turns to the mother of one of the victims and a series of thing she has said and done become damning *evidence* against her. Great book!
Let‘s talk about May reads! Let me know in the comments on YouTube if you‘ve read any of the books that I mention in the video or if you‘re adding them to your TBR! https://youtu.be/xJdLXc-NE2I

Thankful that my stabbing pains in the back and belly was easily treatable, but not without a visit to the ER this morning. Slept most of the afternoon away, but blessed to be outside reading this fine evening. Obviously I have seen this book touted everywhere, but I didn‘t read anything about it. Just picked it up from the library and started reading today. I am about 60 pages in, it hooks you fast!
Trying to backfill some of my reviews now that Litsy is in web form (I already said it, but THANK YOU TO WHOMEVER DECIDED TO MAKE THIS A WEB PLATFORM TOO!!)
This book was easily one of my favorites of 2019. Full review!
A bit late but here's my May wrap-up. I had an awful month personally but my reading was great.
Courtroom dramas really aren‘t my thing, but I recommend this to anyone who likes them. I listened to the first 2 hours of the #audiobook, then checked the chapter list to see how much more was in store. The trail [sic, tsk tsk] continues for 12 more hours, so I skipped ahead to chapter 34 and read to the end. The conclusion is great and so is the bonus interview with the author. So, I call this a pick even though I bailed on 11 hours of it. 🤪
Books read in May:
365 Marks on the Wall ~ 3.75 stars
Shout ~ 4.75 stars
Jane, the Fox, and Me ~ 4.75 stars
Miracle Creek ~ 5 stars
The Elephant Whisperer ~ 4 stars
Night ~ 5 stars
All the Missing Girls ~ 3.75 stars
A Dog Named Beautiful ~ 77% finished/will hopefully finish tonight.
I wasn‘t expecting to like this as much. I did have a few issues with it but nothing to lower my rating. I‘ve never read a courtroom drama, if that‘s what this is, but it was done really well. I liked all the characters, and couldn‘t believe that any of them could have done it. I was actually shocked to learn what had actually happened. This is definitely something I‘d like to read again. #botm

“That was both the best and worst part, that all that happened was the unintended consequence of a good person‘s mistakes... Good things and bad - every friendship and romance formed, every accident, every illness - resulted from the conspiracy of hundreds of little things in and of themselves inconsequential.”
“People talk so much about the loss of intimacy between married couples as the years progress... but no one measured the number of hours spent holding your baby in the first year of life versus the remaining years... Like an addiction, you could go for years without it, but you never forget it, never stop missing it, and when you got a dab of it, like now, you craved it more and wanted to gorge on it.”
What an amazing debut novel. A story centered around a woman on trial for murdering her son. A story about an immigrant family struggling to adapt to living in a new country. A story about an interracial couple struggling with the expectations of different cultures. A story about mothers struggling to keep their identities. A story about all these people who are looking for hope but encounter tragedy on one fateful day. (👇 more)
So. Goooood. Unputdownable
I‘m not sure how much reading I‘ll be able to do in Texas but my Kindle is with me and loaded up!
-Miracle Creek is already in progress
-Stillhouse Lake is on my TBR and was free with amazon prime!
-Red Rising was recommended by a coworker, seems like my kind of thing
-The Priory of the Orange Tree is also TBR and is currently $1.99!!
This was a great #BOTM pick! Excellent pacing and plot, my theories changed every other chapter and kept me on my toes. A heartbreaking case no matter which way you look at it, but I liked that it broke the typical mold for a whodunnit. Angie Kim is definitely one to watch, I really enjoyed her writing style and memorable characters 👏🏽
I finished this incredible debut last night! I think it is safe to say that this is full of #LoveLies!

First weekend porch morning of the year! I spotted a hummingbird visiting our mystery plant so I‘m glad I‘ve put my hummingbird feeders out!
I just started this book which I bought on Kindle. I had it from the library a little while ago but unfortunately with work craziness reducing reading time, it‘s too much stress to have to read on the library‘s schedule right now!
#BFC week 1 check in. Well, book goal accomplished. I skipped this one when it first came out but with all the great reviews I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. I really liked all the different POVs and the discussions of the difficulty of caring for others. Unfortunately, the fitness goals suffered this week with the bad weather and work schedule. I need to make some adjustments for the upcoming week. Here‘s to week 2!
