The Next Person You Meet in Heaven
The Next Person You Meet in Heaven: The sequel to The Five People You Meet in Heaven | Mitch Albom
Fifteen years ago, in Mitch Albom's beloved novel, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, the world fell in love with Eddie, a grizzled war veteran- turned-amusement park mechanic who died saving the life of a young girl named Annie. Eddie's journey to heaven taught him that every life matters. Now, in this magical sequel, Mitch Albom reveals Annie's story. The accident that killed Eddie left an indelible mark on Annie. It took her left hand, which needed to be surgically reattached. Injured, scarred, and unable to remember why, Annie's life is forever changed by a guilt-ravaged mother who whisks her away from the world she knew. Bullied by her peers and haunted by something she cannot recall, Annie struggles to find acceptance as she grows. When, as a young woman, she reconnects with Paulo, her childhood love, she believes she has finally found happiness. As the novel opens, Annie is marrying Paulo. But when her wedding night day ends in an unimaginable accident, Annie finds herself on her own heavenly journey - and an inevitable reunion with Eddie, one of the five people who will show her how her life mattered in ways she could not have fathomed. Poignant and beautiful, filled with unexpected twists, The Next Person You Meet in Heaven reminds us that not only does every life matter, but that every ending is also a beginning - we only need to open our eyes to see it.

To grasp the essence of this book it has to be read soon after “The Five People You Meet in Heaven”.‘ It not only explains that book but also them together makes this into a truly unforgettable reading experience. I thoroughly believe in Albom‘s concept of the way things work, that we are all connected. But, most importantly, I felt like I was there with all of them in Heaven. By the end, tears were running down my face. Unforgettable! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My belated review. This is a very short read—one night for me and I‘m a slow reader. This is an uplifting follow-up to the first book, but I don‘t think it is as compelling as Five People. Annie‘s life story is good but it just wasn‘t as jaw-dropping as Eddie‘s. Five People was masterful. This book feels like the author now has a formula and can just churn out these stories. I hope he doesn‘t. A very good read but it doesn‘t need a sequel.

Clwojick I loved The Five People You Meet In Heaven! I didn‘t realize this was a sequel. 😱 8mo
jb72 @Clwojick I believe it just came out last year. My library happened to have it on display this week so I snatched it up. I enjoyed both books. 8mo

Clwojick Have you ever seen the movie adaptation for 5 people? I seen it about 12 years ago, but it‘s one of the rare times when they didn‘t change the story at all. 8mo
jb72 @Clwojick I did have it on one day while I was doing other things, but wasn‘t fully engaged. I‘ll have to sit down and give it a go soon. John Voigt plays Eddie right? 8mo

This book touches on a wide variety of diverse topics including trauma, depression, pregnancy, death (of others in your life), relationships, guilt and more. It is an emotional rollercoaster that pushes you to think more on yourself and reflect how your actions influences those around you but also how the past impacts your future (even if you don't have a direct connection to it).

@julesG so I was ready to pick up our buddy read but then school and work has just hit me really hard and has swamped me for the next several days. Because of that I just don‘t see myself being able to get through another fantasy book due to my lack of concentration 😫 Hopefully I can pick it back up soon and I can see how you liked it once I get to it 😢 Sorry for having to bail because I was so looking forward to the book!

julesG Why does life get in the way of reading plans? No problem, Lauren. I'll write down any thoughts and we can talk about it later. 😘 9mo

Finally finished one of my Christmas gifts-Mitch‘s new sequel. For me, it was worth the 14-year wait. 🥳 But you must read this one right after “Five People” to fully appreciate it. I loved revisiting Eddie, learning even more about him and then finding out all about the little girl he tried to save. And I was so pleased to read a beautiful segment about how our beloved pets are patiently waiting to see us again in heaven. Of course they are!

shellleigh33 These are both great books! 9mo
UwannaPublishme @shellleigh33 Yes! 🙌🏻 Now I want to read all of his books. 9mo

Texreader @megnews @KristenDuck I think I need to reread Five People first. It‘s been years. What do you think? 9mo
KristenDuck @Texreader I‘d always recommend re-reading Five People just because it‘s SO good but really this is a whole new story. So I think you‘d be okay either way. 9mo
megnews @Texreader it had been years for me as well. I didn‘t re-read the first so I honestly can‘t place the connection. But I did not feel like I was missing anything. It was fine as a stand alone. 9mo

Annie, the girl who was saved by “Eddie Maintenance” in The Five People You Meet In Heaven is now on her own personal journey, and we also learn what happened to her immediately following the accident fifteen years ago.

Loved this sequel to one of my all-time favorite books. A very touching read with so much heart.

I recommend this to all fans of Mitch Alvin‘s first, The Five People, and anyone who believes that there‘s going to be answers.

Texreader I loved Five People too!!! I have this one. I need to read it 10mo
KristenDuck @Texreader if you liked the first one, you‘ll like this one too. Same style of writing... definitely keep a tissue nearby. 10mo

I was nervous cause this woman was about to turn 31 and so am I. Then I just got caught up in her world. I liked who she met along the way and I like that it wasn‘t like Eddie‘s story. She needed the hope that her journey gave her and I like it.
