Yes, it had its cliches and overused tropes, but it was also imaginative and engaging. A pleasant surprise overall.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had jury duty today, which basically was just me sitting in the basement of our courthouse with so many people & reading this book for 5 hours before being released to go home. And this was the perfect book for a day like today! It was fun & engaging and in a setting I‘m not used to at all, which kept me interested as I learned how this new world works. Definitely looking forward to book 2!

This is a recent cover change. I remember debating it here on Litsy. Only US readers got the cover change. UK and Aussie readers got to keep the cool middle Easter styled covers.

A wonderful tale of the desert, with so many important underlying themes and a compeling story. I'll be surely following this series. The "Goodreads Choice Winner of 2016" prize this book has won is completely deserved.

This story felt a little different from other fantasy novels I read. There were times I felt it was skipping parts in the story, but overall I was able to follow along with the story. It definitely got more and more exciting as I got further into the story. I can‘t wait to see what happens in the next book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fictional world with an orphaned protagonist who takes matters into her own hands. In this world, not unlike our own, she would be married off young and left without a voice because she's a girl. But she finds a way out and finds refuge with other misfits, learning just how much power she actually has. I couldn't put this one down.

This is the second time that I‘ve read this book, but I know I didn‘t truly appreciate it when I read it years ago. I enjoyed the action, characters, world-building, plot twists, and a hint of romance that wasn‘t overbearing. Amani is a strong heroine and I look forward to reading the sequel “Traitor to the Throne”.

The usual formulaic YA storyline (that I love). Only it has a Middle Eastern take, so there are different socio-challenges and folklore along the way. I liked it, can't wait to see what's in store next.

I seldom dnf a book but this one did me in. It was boring. Our hero and heroine spend way too much time making googly eyes at each other for my taste. I want action and adventure not a predictable YA romance with some sharpshooting mixed in. Plus, I‘m afraid she going to become one of those silly girls that turns stupid once she falls in love 😒.

DuskAngelReads Absolutely love this series!! In my Top 4! I have the full set in the covers matching this in paperback. You can still buy the matching in Paperback. Wish they had the Hardcovers. But I‘d rather have the paperbacks than the new covers. 😂 1y
SassenachTheBookWizard @DuskAngelReads I debated that but having the first in hc and then the rest in pb would annoy me as much as if they were all hc and had different covers lol 1y

DuskAngelReads Yeah that‘s true. But I originally had the first one in Paperback as I received it in The YA Chronicles subscription box. Pretty sure it was the first one I ever got. 1y
SassenachTheBookWizard @DuskAngelReads oh that's true! If I like it, I'll check the prices to just get it all in paperback and replace this hardcover 1y

I love it! It's easy to understand, the words just flow and I didn't have a hard time reading it! And I love (maybe I'm a bit biased cuz I'm female) that the female main character really takes the whole stage of the story. She is the hero in this one. And wonderful character development.

I didn't *loved* this book but I liked it pretty much! I didn't expect some things about the plot twist and the final pages destroyed me, I need more!! 🤭🤭

So I need to read the next one because MANY THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN HERE.

And I love you Amani, you are a great main character and I'll protect you at all costs 🤗😂 And I loved that the romance wasn't in the center of the story. It was obvious but like it were not there. 🧐

Overall good but it suffered from the same annoying "teenagers must save the world" trope that many novels have. No room for adults in a rebellion? Also, I feel like the author read the Percy Jackson books and said, how can I steal this but pretend it's different? Hoping for a growth in style and more original ideas in book 2.

The syntax of the wild West being used in conjunction with the culture of the Middle East is a bit off-putting but so far I really enjoy the storyline.

I just made this one last week since I wanted to be able to pick my own fabric and I looooooove it! It‘s so bright and cheerful, it makes me happy to look at even thought it‘s been toting less-than-cheerful books (previously The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and now Rebel of the Sands). I was a little disappointed in this book. The concept is great, and I absolutely love the world that the author has set up. However, I don't really care for the characters. I just don't find them relatable or very interesting. The world was enough to make me want to read the second though so hopefully the series improves!

GlassAsDiamonds I found myself in a very similar situation by the end of this one, I was invested but... not that much... I actually have the second and haven‘t started it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 2y
TheEvilQueen @GlassAsDiamonds I'm glad I'm not the only one. I really wanted to like this book but it just didn't click with me. 2y
GlassAsDiamonds @TheEvilQueen 😊 there‘s just .... something isn‘t there? The third is out and I really want to finish them all at exactly the same time as I don‘t really have the will to actually bother acquiring the last or actually reading the second... 2y
TheEvilQueen @GlassAsDiamonds I know what you mean. I do want to finish the series, but I think I'm gonna buy the ebooks or try to borrow from a library but I know if I don't do it soon I'll never finish them. But hey, maybe the author pulled it all together in the second. I haven't heard anything about it. 2y
