What should I read if I want something as absurd as My Sweet Audrina but not another VC Andrews novel??? I need #recommendations ‼️

tstan If you want something from that time period, anything by Sidney Sheldon or Jackie Collins- they‘re over the top campy drama. A great horror novel that‘s got the VC Andrews vibe is Rosemary‘s Baby by Ira Levin. 2y

This one started off slow for me... but the more I read the harder it was to put down. VERY twisted and unique. Really enjoyed it...even though I disliked almost EVERY character! Haha. Highly recommend it!

Man this thing gave me nightmares. From my horror and psychological thriller phase. This is a pick because it was so subtle I had no clue I read a horror story til the nightmares hit.

A box full of V.C. Andrews ❤️ Thank you @MeganAnn , I swear I had no sooner opened it up to see my chocolate goodies before my Husband started grabbing a handful. He thanks you as well lol Love adding to my collection 😊 Best Book club with the kindest people 😘

LauraBrook Those are some excellent 90s covers too! ❤️ me some VC Andrews! 2y
MeganAnn Yay! I'm glad they made it to you! 🎉 I had some extra space in your box and ran out of filler so I figured I would send a few treats to return your generous gifts of tea and treats from the boxes you've sent me. Hope your husband shared a little with you 😉 2y

I stopped by the library this morning to pick up My Sweet Audrina. I‘ve never read any V.C. Andrews, I really don‘t know how I missed it as a young teen, except I‘ve always been a bit of a snob. Anyways, one of my favorite podcasts, My Favorite Murder, suggested it, and will be discussing it on an upcoming episode, so why not? 🤓
Are there any Litten #murderino s out there?

emtobiasz 🙋🏽 2y
parttimedomestic @emtobiasz yay! Are you planning on reading this? Or do you read any true crime? 2y
emtobiasz @parttimedomestic I have to admit, I don't know if I've read any true crime. It hasn't been my genre in the past, but I love the quick & dirty retellings on the podcast. I'm thinking about picking up this book though-- I've never read VC Andrews and I hear her stuff is bananas! 2y

parttimedomestic @emtobiasz I feel the same! I‘ve tried to read a few Ann Rule books in the past, but I just can‘t get into it like the podcast! Maybe I should try them on audio... 2y
SheilaChew Oh wow - what memories! I read all the V. C. Andrews books when I was younger. I was so interested in them! Hope you enjoy it! 2y
Saramissy I am a fellow murderino! 2y
parttimedomestic @Saramissy yay! I saw you are reading Helter Skelter, how is it? I listened to the You Must Remember This podcast series about the Tate-La Bianca murders and was creeped out for days... 2y
Saramissy @parttimedomestic The book is fascinating. I'm only halfway through, it's intense! 2y

I've been meaning to read this one for a while, and finally had a good excuse when the MFM podcast decided to do an episode about it. I enjoyed it but it was so problematic. I'm sure that if I had read it as a teenager I would have been obsessed with it. It's a gothic YA novel with lots of twists, and lots of murder. I give it 3.75 ✨s

On last week's episode of the My Favorite Murder podcast, Karen and Georgia announced that they'd be doing a book club episode on My Sweet Audrina. Obviously I had to listen to the audiobook. Holy problematic! This is my first time reading it and my goodness does it need an update. Can't wait to hear what they say about it on MFM #murderino #problematic

Laura317 Good advice! 😂😂😂 2y
MidnightBookGirl I read this back in junior high or high school, and at the time I loved the gothic feel to it (although I hated the ending). I'll admit, 40 year old me is horrified that I read this as a kid! 2y
Chocamanda @MidnightBookGirl if I read this as a teen, all of my middle-child triggers would have been set off! I'm sure I would have thought that I related to Audrina way more than I actually did. I'm glad I read it as an adult. 2y

Fans of My Favorite Murder - the book Karen & Georgia talk about in the latest episode is only $1.99 for the ebook on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I know they mention buying a used paperback that contains the tears and hormones of teenagers, but I couldn‘t say no to that price! #ssdgm

stacybmartin Thank you for this - I‘m just listening to this episode and am so excited for a MFM book club episode! 💜 2y

I never read her books when I was young, but I remember girls hungrily clutching VC Andrews novels in middle school. In my late 20s I read Flowers In the Attic after being incredulous of the summary. My interest waned after If There Be Thorns. Recently, a coworker forwarded me a description of this novel from GRs and we decided to form a bookclub. VC Andrews' demented imagination is unbounded in Audrina. The novel is disturbing as it should be.

This book was my first read of the month, I confess it had been a while since I read this author, but this book honestly was one of the creepiest things I've read in a while. It was so morbid throughout, a proper gothic family saga, and the ending was chilling and confusing. Apparently there's a sequel by the ghost writer? I can't say I'll read it for fear of it not being as good as this, but we'll see. #bookish #booklover #bookaddict #reading

thebookdiviner VC Andrews is fantastic! The ghost writer is nowhere near as good, but her original work is just as creepy as My Sweet Audrina 3y
BookishBrooklyn I agree! I adore her flowers in the attic series 👌 3y

I went to an all-girls school that was formerly a convent. There were some strict, bizarre rules like no circulating & exchanging novels. I guess coz novels corrupt the mind? Bahaha. Naturally all we did was find ways to exchange wicked novels by Sidney Sheldon, Judith McNaught, Nora Roberts but our fav was V.C. Andrews. This one in particular was so screwed up it left us stunned. I'm still stunned. #SoBadItsGood #maybookflowers @RealLifeReading

LauraBrook I loved this one of hers when I was a teen. Just found out that there's a new sequel that was recently published, thanks to Litsy! 3y
batsy @LauraBrook I had no idea there's a sequel! There's something about her books that seem to be irresistible to teen girls. 3y
LauraBrook @batsy I know, right? Like teen girl catnip. And I didn't know about the sequel until a few months ago, but I bought it IMMEDIATELY just to have it on hand. I wonder what reading her will be like in my 30s?!? 3y

RealLifeReading What? No circulating novels?? Wow! 3y
batsy @RealLifeReading Yup, utterly ridiculous. The "approved" ones in our tiny library were fine, and that was it. 3y
LeahBergen Well, that rule just made reading even MORE fun! I loved VC Andrews in junior high. 😂 3y
Leftcoastzen If I had a nickel for every girl of a certain age I sold V.C Andrews books to when I was a bookseller.....🤓🤗 3y
ReadingEnvy A rule like that is SO made to be broken. 3y
batsy @LeahBergen @ReadingEnvy You're so right, it did make reading fun and exciting. Now I'm thinking the people behind the rule knew what they were doing. 😁 3y

Audrina has always lived in the shadow of her older, deceased sister. Daddy wants her to meet up to the standards of his firstborn, but how can she ever live up when she can barely even remember one day to the next?

2/5 stars. I've enjoyed other VC Andrews titles I've read, but this one was such a dreadful chore to work through. When I finally skimmed the last fifth or so of it, I found an ending that was predictable and disappointing.

Current reads! I used to tackle multiple books at a time as a kid/teen, but have been focusing on one at a time since coming back from my reading hiatus - until now, anyways! #currentlyreading:
⭐️ My Sweet Audrina - VC Andrews
⭐️ You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) - Felicia Day
⭐️ The Butterfly Garden - Dot Hutchison
⭐️ Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams

Karen_V I really liked Felicia Day's book. 3y

I don't know why this twisted story is my all time favorite from VC Andrews.

TeaStories One summer I read through several of her books. They were always better than a horror movie. I still love Flowers in the Attic. 4y

Jellybeanbon Also went through a phase of reading her books. Read the flowers in the attic series and the series about Dawn. 4y
