Yes to this book! It‘s often compared to Hunger Games, and I get the comparison. I think there‘s a huge difference in the fact that Katniss did not intend to become a rebel, and Darrow is deliberately going to war with the planetary system and is always intentionally learning from his mistakes. Looking forward to Golden Son!

I plowed through this epic Book 1. I always picked up these much-hyped social media books with skepticism, but I gave it a good decade for the hype to die down. LOL. I devoured the first 20 chapters in one sitting and I was hooked. Darrow‘s quest is born out of revenge but sustained by love. Thank the gods of Olympus there are more books!

I knocked out the first 20 chapters yesterday in about 5.75 hours. Holy schnikes, this is a good book.
Great book. Had a hard time putting it down.

Pierce Brown's upcoming book, "RED RISING BOOK 7," titled "RED GOD," will reportedly be released next year, sometime in Summer 2026!
The author revealed the status of his most anticipated novel, which is the final book in the series, in an interview earlier this year. He stated that, unless new issues arise, the book is expected to be released sometime in the Summer next year.

I do not enjoy sci-fi, but I have read a few so far this year. I reread Ender, which then sent me to this series. Lands above! It may be better than Hunger Games @Chrissyreadit A "Red" (miner from Mars) loses his beloved wife, gets a horrendous, painful makeover, and then infiltrates the "Gold" (tyrant) society. Darrow is a one-of-a-kind hero. The competition is downright brutal. He can't trust anyone, but he gains loyalty. #overcomingevilempires

🌕 Red Rising is a total starburst of feels! 💥 I couldn‘t stop listening—Darrow‘s fire, the plot twists, the mission! 😱🔥 It‘s smart, bold, and weirdly cozy for a story about rebellion 😅. The world feels so now 🌍, and I kept thinking, “Why isn‘t this a movie yet?!” 🎬💫 More than sci-fi—it‘s heart, hope, and a howl for change 🐺❤️✨. OBSESSED.

1. I do…I am very much a “just in case” type of person.
2. Tagged a favorite which is all about wealth and power and socio-economic stratification and what it means for society (amongst other things). I would say both having/not having money plays a huge role in how many of the characters behave and how they view others.

As much as I loved Red Rising, The Paris Apartment is still in my mind as an amazing book that really surprised me. This was really hard though because The Women I also loved in March so I made it the Wild Card liking it slightly more than Red Rising.

5✨ Where has this series been! A dystopian in a space world where there are colored social stratum‘s. Darrow lives as a Red who work and mine the earth for civilization to colonize Mars. While the Golds live it up and make sure they are working. When unfortunate events befall his family a new plan is established to overthrow the order of things. I recognized a lot of elements in this book from other dystopians I love in a new and exciting way.

3.75⭐ (GRAPHIC AUDIO EDITION) I didn‘t like the narrator in the original version, so I thought I‘d try the GA ed. to see if I could gel with it. Unfortunately, they still had Darrow voiced by someone with an accent, so I still struggled.
Despite my issues, I liked this version more. However, I still didn‘t really understand what was going on in the second half of the book. Is it some sort of test, and if it is, did he pass?⬇️⬇️⬇️
This was a difficult book to read, for many reasons. The writing style was so difficult for me to keep up with. Really struggled with understanding what was happening. All the changing terms and multiple peoples names. First half was slow then it got so fast. Premise of a lower Red literally becoming a higher Gold to take down the system was so compelling.
I don‘t know if I‘ll read more. I‘m intrigued, but not invested.
"Men are not created equal; we all know this. There are averages. There are outliers. There are the ugly. There are the beautiful. This would not be if we were all equal. A Red can no more command a starship than a Green can serve as a doctor!"

This took forever for me to get through, even taking end-of-semester craziness into account. This felt too much like a mashup of Silo/Wool and The Hunger Games, without having a protagonist I wanted to root for. I probably won't continue the series.

Hmmm. Only picked this as it had a colour in the title for a challenge but for really pulled in. I liked the world building and how we learned as we went vs being given perfect back story but the main character was frustrating beyond measure and the senseless violence is almost never ending. I imagine I will seek out the rest of the first trilogy at least however as it ends in a decided cliffhanger

I can see why this series has so much hype! A mix of hunger games and the Martian. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to continuing the series 🥰

I used all the gift cards I got for my birthday to buy more books. I must go on book buying ban now!

This book is a feast for the imagination. Pulse-pounding. Edge-of-your-seat. Adrenaline-inducing. A masterful spectacle with that much coveted political meat that I favour in my dystopian novels. Combining concepts from multiple universes, Brown weaves an angsty tale for mature YA dystopian fans. It is truly harrowing as it depicts the subjugation of humanity. This instalment is as legendary as its protagonist. Consider me hooked. Phenomenal.
“Words are a weapon stronger than he knows. And songs are even greater. The words wake the mind. The melody wakes the heart. I come from a people of song and dance. I don‘t need him to tell me the power of words.”

This dystopia is a mix of ideas already seen elsewhere, beginning from Harry Potter and going through Hunger Games and Divergent. There are lots of logics and science gaps, not much in terms of character development, but the storytelling is fast pacing, angsty and full of drama. Don't think I'll continue with the series :(

I read this book at the request of my teenage nephew, as it‘s his current favorite series. The story was good but also very violent. I liked the character of Darrow and some of the others, but the first person point of view means you only get to know the other characters from Darrow‘s perspective. I‘ll probably continue the series at some point for my nephew, but I don‘t feel compelled to immediately know what happens next.

This was a good book, but not great. Very plot driven, not a lot of character development. Loved the overall theme of rebellion, and the dystopian future world. I‘m jumping right into book 2, but only because I don‘t have anything better to read.

Monday morning book & breakfast! My nephew has decided this series is his new favorite, so he said I had to start reading it. This first book has a bit of a slow start, but it‘s getting more interesting now.

5⭐️ THIS WAS SO GOOD! I cannot believe I waited as long as I did to read this book, cause it‘s been on my TBR for at least two years. I think what held me back was the idea that it was a sci-fi, and I am not a sci-fi girly, but there‘s such an epic fantasy vibe to it that it just works. 100% recommend, looking forward to book two. This was my #DoubleSpin for my #BookSpinBingo and my #Roll100 #67 for March.

For my #weekendreads I‘m hoping to finish “Red Rising” and put more of a dent in “Powerless.” I don‘t know why, but it‘s taking me so long to read Powerless and it‘s not a story I‘m completely invested in. I‘ll finish it, but I‘m ready for it to end. As for Red Rising, I‘m loving this so far!

I'm excited to start this one! I heard it's about a dystopian society so this sounds like its right up my alley 🤣

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Red Rising has been on my tbr list for years and I finally got round to it. I like the premise, the storyline, the characters. Occasionally I feel it‘s a bit slow and this book could be half the size and still as good. I‘m looking forward to starting the next in the series. #fantasy #apocalypse #4stars #series

I‘m bailing an hour and half (10%) into the book. I didn‘t realize it was the beginning of a trilogy and I‘m just not that invested 🤷🏻♀️

A really fun, easy to read adventure with space Irish drunkards. Loved the audio book and all the accents. Have a listen to what we thought about it in detail in episode 33 of the Mind Duck Books podcast: http://bit.ly/3BXcWzu
Love this book! So many twists and turns, and the characters are extremely well crafted. There are very gory scenes, which makes this especially heart wrenching. Also the audiobook narrator does an amazing job immersing the reader into this wild world

This is a borderline pick for me. It had a very captivating opening, with great world building. However, when we get to the competition portion the story weirdly drags at times and feels more YA. I believe this is intended to be an adult novel but I. The choice of age of our protagonist, he struggles to balance the reality of that age with the dangerous world of this book. I do really like the protagonist and plan of continuing the series. 3.5⭐️

Unpopular opinion incoming!
All I can say about this book is, “Why?” Why is it set on Mars when it seems to take place in a futuristic Rome? Why is the protagonist such a Gary Stu? Why do the characters reference conquerors and figures from ancient history as if nothing has taken place between then and mankind‘s terraforming of the solar system?
Overall, disappointing. I know tons of people love it, but I just couldn‘t get past my own ⬇️

So which is it? Roque or Cassius?! 🤦♀️
There‘s been more than a few things that have irked me about this one so far, but the premise is interesting enough that I‘ve stuck with it… for now…

It took me a little while to get into this book but once it got going it was good. I'm not too sure about saying it's a space opera but that is what they classified it as. I guess the main character will do anything for the love he has for his wife #NSR221 @Nessavamusic #SpaceOpera in Science Fiction
