Oathbringer
Oathbringer | Brandon Sanderson
The eagerly awaited sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling Words of Radiance, from epic fantasy author Brandon Sanderson at the top of his game. In Oathbringer, the third volume of the New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive, humanity faces a new Desolation with the return of the Voidbringers, a foe with numbers as great as their thirst for vengeance. Dalinar Kholins Alethi armies won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost: The enemy Parshendi summoned the violent Everstorm, which now sweeps the world with destruction, and in its passing awakens the once peaceful and subservient parshmen to the horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans. While on a desperate flight to warn his family of the threat, Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with the fact that the newly kindled anger of the parshmen may be wholly justified. Nestled in the mountains high above the storms, in the tower city of Urithiru, Shallan Davar investigates the wonders of the ancient stronghold of the Knights Radiant and unearths dark secrets lurking in its depths. And Dalinar realizes that his holy mission to unite his homeland of Alethkar was too narrow in scope. Unless all the nations of Roshar can put aside Dalinars blood-soaked past and stand togetherand unless Dalinar himself can confront that pasteven the restoration of the Knights Radiant will not prevent the end of civilization. That was a lot of pages. I have to say Sanderson writes the best battle scenes. He never loses my interest even with a gazillion pages. I was hoping for a good wedding scene though. I hope the extra week gave you all a little time to get caught up. #CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Me to Kaladin: “say the damn words already.” 🤣 14m
JacqMac @Meshell1313 Me too! 🤣 13m
Meshell1313 Ok lots of thoughts about this ending: - Wit becoming a radiant?!?! -I also thought the wedding was anticlimactic. Like I waited 3 books for this! -I don‘t think we‘ve seen the last of Moash. He‘s possibly our next villain???? 12m
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I was so disappointed in the wedding. I normally don‘t like too much romance in my fantasy, but this I wanted. And yes, I think Moash is going to get extra evil. I am interested to see where he is heading with Wit. 4m

Well, that took a turn. I am surprised, but not surprised. This one is so big though. I feel like we should have a check-in. How is everyone doing? Should I add a little break after this book for people to catch up or just keep going?

I‘m still really liking this one. Except… the Dalinar visions are getting old. I could edit those out and be pretty happy still. But I won‘t. I‘m sure they are worth it later. Thankfully I love all the time we spend with bridge four, so it‘s helping me to get through the less interesting parts. #CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Yes I agree- but I know part 2 is just the build up to what is coming. I really liked the Moash storyline!!!! He is working with the enemy! What did he learn? I have so many questions. 1mo

I have read a lot of reviews that said this book drags on too much. Maybe it‘s just me, but I can‘t get enough of it. I‘m enjoying every last bit.

Meshell1313 Same! I‘m easily becoming Sanderson‘s #1 fan! Ok here‘s my part 1 thoughts! Jasnah is alive! Woo! And what do we think about the bomb that was dropped to Shallan- that Kaladin killed her brother. 1mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I had a feeling she was still alive. I can‘t wait to find out how. And I wonder how she will feel about Kaladin now. They had such a fun relationship. Like brother and sister. (edited) 1mo

rabbitprincess Whew finally finished Part 1! The scene with the Midnight Mother was absolutely chilling, very well done! And I happened to be reading this on the bus when I hit the illustration of the creepy spren lurking in the darkness 😂 YEARGH!! 1mo
rabbitprincess I‘ve been finding this one a bit slower than Words of Radiance, but not sure how much of that is the book and how much of that is my thesis work kicking into high gear and leaving my brain mushy 😅 1mo
JacqMac @rabbitprincess 🤣Great timing on that. I‘m finding the Dalinar parts slow. Not the flashbacks, but the visions. I could kinda do without them, but I‘m sure they are important, so I‘m trying. Lol (edited) 1mo
Leniverse I've started a new job with a steep learning curve, and I've been too tired to even contemplate starting a 1200 page book, even though I've been really eager to continue the story. I love being back in this world. I don‘t know where Sanderson finds all the words, but at this point I trust where he is going and I will follow him anywhere. My most relatable part: “He had found middle age to be like an assassin - quiet, creeping along behind him.
Much of the time he would go about his life as ohe always had, until an unexpected ache or pain gave warning. He was not the youth he had once been.”
#CoamereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Yesss!!! Love it! I‘m happy to be back with alll my favs. So halfway through part 1 and Daliner is King already!?! We better buckle up. I feel like this one will be an even crazier rollercoaster. I do love how he is still trying to unite them! 1mo

Phew! 1200+ pages later - this third book in the series, where all the books are long, is the first that has *felt* long.
Overall, I still loved it, cannot wait to continue, and I am unendingly impressed with Brandon Sanderson and the work he does.

I love Sanderson‘s work but I feel like I‘m really struggling with The Stormlight Archives… these books are a huge undertaking and have serious pacing problems for how long they are. I feel like I can zone out for ten minutes and not really miss anything important which is hard to swallow. Unsure if I will continue on with this series.

#18 The third book in the Stormlight Archive series, this is the best of Sanderson‘s Cosmere series so far IMO, but was a long read at 1242 pages. Some humorous moments, some edge of the seat moments, and lots of flawed characters acting honorably at critical moments. 4.0⭐️ #2024

Ok ready to read with my 2 new gadgets if can call them that. Little book timer and a page magnifier. Obviously stupid but trying it as I keep it on smallest font and black easy basic margins as I like to match page number with the real book. Blue shade light on fire helps dark mode lowest light all basic setting that I don‘t use will now try as these gadgets help when phone low or kindle low. Now won‘t need to winner.

Ok different approach to get through this book. The print so small in paper back so got it on kindle with blue shade in big font and follow with pencil. Got through 4 chapters already winner. Weird way to read but some books take lot concentration so pencil guidance seems to work.

It feels like it‘s been forever since I wrote a review. It took me a minute to get through Oathbringer, but I really enjoyed it. However, there were a few parts that felt like they lagged as the world was being built for the next sequence. But in true Sanderson fashion the ending was epic and I can‘t wait to dive into Rythmn of War.

Yes, that is Rhythm of War, not Oathbringer... I read Oathbringer on my Kindle. It was pretty good, but also ever so sprawling. I found myself losing track of everything that was going on.

Despite it feeling rather chaotic and frantic, there were elements that I really enjoyed and I'll be moving straight on to Rhythm of War.

Stormlight Archive is a deeply inventive fantasy series, with a rich lore and lots of character.

⭐⭐⭐ for this instalment

Rae vs. Stormlight Archive continues.

With each of these books I've been tempted to give up at the halfway point, but Sanderson has managed to dazzle me in the second half... I'm hoping it will be the same with Oathbringer.

There's just so much lore and so many points of view! Sometimes it feels like starting over and over again. I struggle to remember all the different minor characters / spren / locations / backstory that get thrown my way.

I'm not sure how to feel after this chapter.

Am I supposed to intensely dislike young Dalinar and his allies? Is Sanderson going for a Tigana-style "are we the bad guys?" approach? Or are we supposed to be on side?

I assume all will become clear as I read on...

The third book in the series continues each of our favorite characters‘ storylines. There‘s a great twist on the voidbringer theme. Some people complain about the length, but I think of these books as something you just sink into and enjoy as they meander.
