Cherry and Hero love each other, but Cherry‘s father forces her to marry. So of course her husband makes a bet with his friend about her virtue and when he loses the bet Cherry and Hero are accused of witchcraft. All of this set in a world created by a bird girl whose father decides he wants to run her creation because it‘s too lenient and no one fears him. Not a bad story, but not great either.

Everybody loves this book: it tell‘s women‘s stories, and its mesage is how important it is to tell women‘s stories. This is good. However, I detested the format and the writing. The writing is childish, and the occasional swearing took me out of the fairy-tale feeling. Many claim this book is beautiful: but to me it looks dirty and ugly. And I hated that most men were depicted as evil, power-hungry and stupid. That‘s too simplistic. ⭐️⭐️/5
There can‘t be #noordinarylove between Hero and Cherry for a long time, because they have to deal with creepy men treating them like objects. Luckily, through story telling and rebellion, everything ends as it is supposed to 👌
#FierceFeb Day 1: This feminist graphic novel is an exquisite description of the #ModernWoman - I love how womanity is portrayed so effectively and with such utter strength, quiet voice, and resolute power in this graphic novel that turns myths over on their head with such glee and abandon.
When your library has a double up your reading promo and you have not one, but three library cards, you got a little something like this.
Hello hello! I have just one #bookishgift this year but it's a great one from my sister-in-law. And I'm going to settle down and read it, then later build my awesome Women of NASA Lego set the Husband got me. In the afternoon we're taking the kids to watch The Last Jedi!
Happy Boxing Day!
This is my #bookhaul from the Sirens conference 📚
They had a hand curated bookshop of women‘s fantasy with 1,000 titles - not copies, TITLES - and on my first walkthrough I was pleased I already had so many of the books featured.
Meaning I would not ‘need‘ to buy any.
This is me 15 books later 😁
And they put my carry-on through the airport security scanner twice - were they wondering why anyone would have a bag of 100% books? 😹
In this retelling of The Arabian Nights, an evil man, Manfred, tries to seduce his friend's wife, Cherry. Manfred must seduce Cherry within a hundred nights, so he keeps thinking " #tonighttonight, it is going to happen tonight!" What Manfred hasn't considered is Hero, Cherry's lover. Hero keeps telling Manfred stories every night, and she does it so well, that Manfred wants to continue to listen to stories night after night. ?✨?✨
I picked this one up right after reading Greenberg's The Encyclopedia of Early Earth. This was a different take on the Arabian Nights, a slightly underwhelming one. Some of the stories told by Hero were very interesting but the overarching premise was less so.
I've read some great books this year, but so far nothing beats my love for Isabel Greenberg's work. This is her second graphic novel to take place in the Early Earth, a world full of amazing storytellers, wise crones, impossible lovers and, especially in this second book, incredibly strong female characters. So good! #TGIFGiveaway
Talk about being a #creep. Staying classy by threating with rape and general smooth talking 🙄🙄
It is an amazing graphic novel though, and I would recommend to everyone who loves great artwork, fairytale retellings and badass lesbian lovers 👌
Finally finished this book! It was a great love story about smart, witty women overcoming obstacles ( mostly men) and perseverance. Loved it! Here's Stormy #catsoflitsy
I just totally stopped taking the alka seltzer but I feel ok- ok enough to stay out of bed long enough for this to happen, lol. I even went out to the store and worked up a little sweat without coughing up a lung, which is VERY good. I am determined to finish this book today. I can't get back in bed anyways... lol #catsoflitsy Have a great Sunday Littens!! ❤️❤️😻😻📚📚
I caught my boyfriend's cold so I am feeling bad and can't sleep very well so I decided to sit my chair by the window and finish this book. Ozzie is in the window behind the fan. I don't know if you can see him too well. This book is cool so far. There may be someone in here to fix the other window in my room but I hope they can do it another day. Have a great day Littens!!! ❤️❤️📚📚🏙🏙😻
Today's #libraryhaul I really liked Greenberg's The Encyclopedia of Early Earth. There isn't anything about Crossing California on here but it is set in 1970's Chicago so I couldn't pass it up. I own a copy of Dark Matter, so I am hoping to buddy read that with my mom. The other two just seemed interesting. Hope you guys are having a great day!! ❤️❤️ 📚📚😎😎👍👍🏙🏙
The One Hundred Nights of Hero is a gorgeous 2016 graphic novel that should have gotten a lot more attention than it did. The art is beautiful, the meta humor a delight, and its message profound. Referencing a host of fables that help elevate its own story to that same ancient, symbolic truth of the mythic, the frame narrative is based on Scheherazade's. ⬇️
