#TIL about the economic devastation caused by the Salem witch trials (in part because when people were released from prison post-hysteria, they had to pay the gov't for their stay in prison?? 😤)

Got some good #audiocooking in while I tried this new recipe and then enjoyed the fruits of my labor. 😋 I don't have a lot of practice cooking, so it's been hard to make time for cooking yummy meals with veggies and stuff, but I think this recipe is easy enough to fit into my schedule! Kicked off #NFNov tonight by starting this #audiobook on my #audiorun! Running 3 miles on a treadmill sure is boring, so it was nice to have a good audiobook as company. I love Shirley Jackson, and I'm thinking that this can count as #truecrime for #NFNovbingo! @Clwojick @rsteve388

This nonfiction YA about the Salem Witch Trials certainly packs a punch! Filled with details about Salem Village at that time, and how a whole community succumbed to paranoia, this is an excellent introduction to the subject.

But you really can‘t go wrong with Shirley Jackson.

I was aghast several times while I listened to this book. I guess I forgot or maybe didn‘t know the details of the Salem witch trials. It is a short one, but Jackson does a great job of moving the story along, even with all of the details. The narrator is perfect. #authoramonth #nonfiction19

August‘s author is Shirley Jackson! I‘ve already read We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The Haunting of Hill House, so I wanted to try something a little different and I found her book The Witchcraft of Salem Village. When I was in school, I was interested in the Salem Witch Trials so I chose this short nonfiction book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really enjoyed this ”just the facts” non-fictionalized telling of the Salem Witch Trials! It doesn't matter how many books I read on the subject, (and I have read a lot!) I always learn at Least one new thing in each book!
