I could quote something on every page. This book is my jam! Let me set the connection, the coinky-dink: I‘ve just started A View of the Harbour by Elizabeth Taylor and a character is 20 yo, right after WWII, sitting in an upstairs room looking out the window at the town streets and then this book has this quote:
“Young Christine… Climbs up to the attic room where she has done so much reading and looks out the window.”

BkClubCare Hey @xicanti - this essay has many references to “Gabrielle Roy” (#TIL abt GR) 1w
xicanti @BkClubCare she was from here! I haven‘t read her yet, though. 1w
BkClubCare @xicanti - sounds like a buddy read of Bonheur d‘Occasion (The Tin Flute for this anglophone) 1w
BkClubCare @xicanti “Could we ever know each other in the slightest without the arts?” 1w

I remember when LuLaRoe was HUGE amongst moms where I live. I always thought the leggings were ugggly, and I abhor MLMs. But I couldn‘t resist watching this documentary this week.

#TIL the company pressured some of their top sellers to fly to Tijuana for weight loss surgery, and convinced families to go all in, leaving stable day jobs so they became fully reliant on LuLaRoe income. This #BossBabe company was TOXIC. #NFN21

rsteve388 Holy shit that's wild... I knew friends who did LuLuRoe had. I idea of that history. 6mo
Skyrimir Just listened to an episode of the podcast Scam Goddess about LuLuRoe and I had no idea! They were so shady. I‘ll have to watch this. 6mo
Victoriahoperose This was so wild. I couldn‘t believe how nuts the whole story was and there‘s STILL people who support them!!! Definitely a bit cult-y. 6mo

EvieBee So I‘m wondering when they‘ll blow the top off of Monat. It scares me how many friends have gone culty on me. 6mo
Kayla.Adriena Omg! Monat my fricken stepmonster is into that! And a lot of girls I went to HS with call themselves boss babes 😝. I can't think of the one company, it's some pink drink powder stuff. I definitely need to watch this 6mo
lele1432 I‘m in some anti-MLM groups and this was all the talk for weeks! I need to watch it. 6mo
4thhouseontheleft @lele1432 Yes! I‘m in a few mom groups on FB, and most of them don‘t allow people to promote their MLM business. That‘s where I first heard about this documentary! 6mo
4thhouseontheleft @rsteve388 same! @Skyrimir that sounds like an interesting podcast! @Victoriahoperose those conventions they had looked so cultish! 6mo
4thhouseontheleft @EvieBee @kayla.Adriena I‘ve actually had to distance myself from a few “friends” over the years who would contact me incessantly about their MLM. Rodan & Fields, Shaklee, and some of the nail ones are popular where I live. I don‘t know anyone selling Monat, but my mom gets bombarded by the Norwex sellers. (edited) 6mo
5feet.of.fury It‘s so wild. I have a friend who got in on the early side of LULA and made a good amount of money for a while, but I know plenty of people who didn‘t.. and I remember the stinky legging debacle. 6mo
coffees I've never heard of this but :000000 toxic indeed 6mo

'Before water was used as ballast for ships, mud, rocks, and earth were shovelled into the hulls from around the harbour where a ship was launched. Seeds and plants were often included in the mix, and when dumped out upon arrival ... these plants took root and thrived. Many of the invasive species in North America were introduced here as “ballast waifs.“ Now many of these ballast grounds ... have become archaeological sites.'

The Time of My Life | Patrick Swayze, Lisa Niemi Swayze
post image

#nfn21 Started this audiobook while on a road trip for a work workshop. #TIL that Patrick Swayze was a professional ballet dancer. He had just gained the position of principal dancer for a tour and would be doing shows with Mikhail Baryshnikov when he stopped. A knee injury from high-school was just too much to deal with on a daily basis.

I Can Make This Promise | Christine Day

An eye-opening story about a twelve-year-old Suquamish/ duwamish girl who learns about friendship, family secrets and Native American identity. Biographical fiction at its best, this was based on the author's family. #TIL Today I learned about the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978. #MgbuddyRead @megnews

megnews I love when a fictional work teaches me something I didn‘t know about. I‘m learning a lot I never this month reading books written by Indigenous authors. 7mo

Primates of the World: An Illustrated Guide | Jean-Jacques Petter, Franois Desbordes
post image

Day 4: #nfn21 Today's podcast was about primatology, the study of primates. There was quite a bit on this subject that I did know given my field, but plenty that I didn't. #TIL that chimps will fight it all out and then be friends a few hours later. They will often use a sort of trust exercise like putting their hand into the others mouth, sort of saying 'are we good now?' Then they will start grooming each other.
@rsteve388 @coffees

rsteve388 Put your hand in your friends mouth.. like we good?! Wild hahaha that's funny. 7mo
coffees I will fight anyone who puts their hands in my mouth!! Jkjk 😆 I'll just be...very disturbed 💀 7mo

#NFN21 #Podcasts

Today I Learned #TIL Ear Hustle Means to Eavesdrop in prison. I listened to two episodes on my walk today. They were very insightful into the people.who.are in prison.

Today Explained talked about the Sudan Coop. So.i didn't know that was happening.

Adaption.Nation talked about Dune, the Book, the Movie and the new Movie out now.

Great podcasts so far.

michellelav I love ear hustle!! Nigel and Earlonne are so wholesome 😁 7mo
rsteve388 I got that same feeling from listening to these two episodes that they were very wholesome. 7mo

Volcano | DK
post image

Forgot to post yesterday for #nfn21. My coworker recommended this podcast to me and I finally started it yesterday. Most of my podcast posts will be from this series. The first episode was about volcanology. #TIL that volcanos can breathe and that the last eruption of Mt. St. Helen's was triggered by a landslide. 10 pts.
@rsteve388 @coffees

rsteve388 Hey that's interesting. This podcast is on my to be listened list as well. 7mo
coffees Ohhh! I don't listen to all the episodes, but I really like this podcast 👍👍 7mo

Girls with fire in their bellies will be forced to drink from a well of correction till the flames die out.

- “Redemption“

arkei #TIL
• Till means the same thing as until.
• Till is not an abbreviation of until—it‘s actually older than until—and it should not be written with an apostrophe.

I thought it was wrong.
