Chapter about the birth control pill for #NFNov .
#TIL: You know how the dial pack has a 4 week cycle —3 weeks on/ 1 week “off” when you have your period? There‘s no scientific reason for this schedule. The inventor of the Pill was a Catholic who thought he could maybe sell the Church on a pharmaceutical version of the rhythm method. And he nearly succeeded.
Messed with my reading plans to slide this book up to the top of my ARC list. And it‘s just so stinking fascinating...if you like to read about brain cells, like me.
#TIL that microglia are the brain-based component of the immune system, which science didn‘t acknowledge until ridiculously recently. #NFNov
#NFNov Book 13 finished. Bingo prompt: True Crime
Stories from real life victims of TCHS, I highly recommend, however I suggest you read Before We Were Yours first.
#TIL On one day, at the local hospital, six unsuspecting mothers were told their baby had died. That of course was a lie, all were sold by Georgia Tann and her cronies.
I find it unbelievable that this went on for 30 years!
A chapter about hair products and advertising for #NFNov .
#TIL: one of the most recognizable ad campaigns (L‘Oreal‘s “Because I‘m worth it”) was created by a 23-year-old junior female ad writer who was angry because every other ad for women‘s products sold them as being necessary to attract a man‘s love and attention. So she sat down and wrote an ad slogan proclaiming that a woman can want to look good for HERSELF. 🙌🏼
Finally *finished* the Fred Rogers documentary ahead of seeing the film tonight. #TIL
-Erik Erikson co-founded the Arsenal Family & Children's Center where Rogers was mentored.
-Rogers saved PBS from being cut.
-Fred Rogers as a narcissist was a Fox News talking point 🙄
-His funeral was picketed by the Westboro Baptist Church. Seriously, wtf.

Written as a daily diary, “When I‘m Gone” is a collection of wisdom and insights from a mother to her daughter about what to do after she dies. It starts with how the initial shock will feel and guides the daughter through the days, weeks, months, and years without her mother. Some is the advice is hilarious (Why you should make fajitas after a death) and some painfully sad (how your first holiday will feel.) #TIL Grief is a fluid process 😭
A pretty insightful history of how the last shipment of slaves landed in the U.S. #TIL when these slaves were freed and denied the option to go back to Africa, they banded together, worked hard and saved their money to be able to purchase land from their previous slave owner, who wouldn't even give them a discount. 4⭐️s #NFNov #PopSugarReadingChallenge #PopSugar2019 #Pop19 #PublishedPosthumously
