Starting honour on the sail into Dubrovnik 😍😍
First holiday read finished in beautiful 🤩 Croatia 🇭🇷 overlooking the 20 minutes of water to stunning 🤩 Dubrovnik where GOTs was filmed , loved those books 📚 back in the day. I enjoyed deep cuts wouldn‘t say I loved it but enjoyed the angst and frustration and misunderstandings of love , more of a love story to music 🎶 than daisy jones & six to which it‘s compared,a short read & a good one, looking forward to the film with Austin butler
Iv given this amazing authors book 5 stars even though I found some of the content extremely difficult to read being a huge animal lover , poaching is evil ,cruel, disastrously damaging to these wonderful creatures, who with a normal heart soul and mind could do such a thing ! The daily fight against these evil people and the removal of snares ! The chapters about the orphaned baby animals and the trauma they‘ve endured at the hands of humans
#persephoneclub well you were right gang I blinking loved it 🥰 what a ride, no spoilers but loved 🥰 the ending wouldn‘t it make a great film 🎥 would loved to have read more on Betty and mount Dunstan one of the best Persephones in my opinion😀 @LeahBergen @CarolynM @willaful @andrew61 @Gissy @rubyslippersreads @Cathythoughts @quietjenn plus found a wonderful bookmark of my mollie moonbeam in her fav place / my bed 😆🥰
Reading in the hairdressers, I‘m much better reading this in the day rather than in bed ? at night and getting angry ? at the horrid Nigel (does anyone know a nice Nigel ? Just wondering ? ?) and poor Rosy ?but hooray ?? here comes Betty - and perfect accompaniment is listening to Beyoncé‘s cowboy ? carter album ? thank you ? fellow #persephoneClub buddies for the encouragement ?happy Easter ?
I maybe the odd one out here #persephoneClub . But I am so cross with this book 📕 I have had to put it down , perhaps reading it in bed isn‘t such a good idea .,.. oh poor Rosy leave him for godsake !!! I shall stick with it as I‘m sure once Betty gets going it‘ll be a rip roaring read - the photo is Blenheim palace , I was there last week with a friend & my pups 🐶 famously rescued by Consuelo Vanderbilts dowry also sadly a loveless marriage
If I was 18-25I‘d have loved this book,it is a spicer version of Judy blumes wonderful forever , it is a lot lot better than the bombardment now of poorly written boring 🥱 romance but and here‘s the BUT maybe it‘s
An age thing (I‘m 53) with a huge TBR and time is precious , this book is 800 odd pages and…..
My nominees please for this years #camplitsy25

This maybe in your fantasy , dystopian sci fi section at your local bookstore but after a slow start it spookily rings true “ because good people can turn desperate when the horrors are upon them, especially people whose culture of plenty had left them with no systems to cope with scarcity or cataclysm “
SouthAfrican lady has moved to my village and joined our bookclub she‘s picked this for our April read , she lived 10 m away from Tulahtulah a mix of heart break 💔 and love &fascinating I didn‘t know baby rhinos 🦏 were so gentle, as with all creatures on gods planet we actvery differently when Wer in danger or abused. I really do admire these wonderful people 🫶🏻 I wantto go ! Sneaking In a Read in the garden after work& before starting dinner
Oh hamitch any of this would be enough to turn anyone to drink ! I personally loved this book I loved the slow paced start the reaping the run up to the games the friendships and comradey. Yes it is shocking and violent in places but I think a great story , loved the old characters appearing mags as mentor and the nod to Katniss at the end , a wonderful wonderful edition to brilliant series. Now don‘t mess the film up !gardens at Blenheim palace
“I pray that girls can make their own choices about what they do with their own bodies “ if only this was true Wer in 2025 ! For godsake and yet we seem to be going backwards! Anyway first half of this book loved it ; not what I expected at all it‘s a story of a pregnant girl falling into a cult ; second half becomes weird, I love time travel yarns but this didn‘t make sense it was slightly confusing however still enjoyed it and want to read more
Reading in the bath 🛀 🥰April sunshine ☀️ and chilly 🥶 evening ; just starting this journey with a collagen hot chocolate ☕️ and an collagen face mask 😷 balm I‘m going down fighting 👵🏻🙅🏼♀️🤣
My dear friend sent me this as I‘m a huge yoga 🧘♀️ fan it‘s helped me enormously with both menopausal symptoms and my heart ❤️ condition medication 💊 causes terrible aches and pains and yoga really does help I can‘t recommend it enough, and @dabbe dear Denise your lovely 🥰 letter and bits n bobs arrived today 😍🥰slightly naughty reading both with a gin and tonic 🤣I will write back pronto and hope isn‘t snail 🐌 Mail 🥰lots of love penpal 😘
Love these reading 📖 wraps on fable 😀 book 📕 of the month hands down was all the colours of the dark followed by Mary Wesley‘s not that sort of girl and harnessing peacocks 🦚 which apparently you can watch on YouTube it was a tv 📺 series yonks ago. Biggest disappointment yumi and the night painter 😖and Deep End, I just think I‘m the wrong age for Ali hazelwood but i did love her supernatural book Bride #marchreading #bookspinbingo
Any excuse to post a photo of my twins 🐶🐶🤣 here book 📕 shopping with mummy 🤗 another Mary Wesley ticked off the back catalog; I love ❤️ her writing ✍️ it is of a time 🕰️ and certain comments and observations wouldn‘t be made now (hopefully Wev progressed but sometimes I wonder 💭 why we don‘t seem to learn from history ) anyway it took me back to the 80s & uk 🇬🇧 holidays by the coast. I‘d say If you loved rivals you‘ll love ❤️ this
Enjoying a g&t with the wonderful Mary Wesley Iv loved everyone of her books Iv read so far & @iread2much look 👀 what arrived today so lovely to sit and read with a gin whilst dinner cooks and wow so quick ! Re read for my book club & enjoyed it more this time around apart from the political themes of the 30s spookily now being played out ☹️the Mitfords all I‘m sure were neuro divergent , unity especially, annoying , spoilt , privileged & definitely a way of life now long gone , aside from their strange political leanings not sure why everyone was obsessed with these horrible women . Nancy the most famous for the right reasons barely gets a look in ;
I tried I really did & maybe 🤔 I‘m missing something but sadly had to dnf it , maybe just bad timing and a huge TBR and limited time left in this planet 🌍 you realise your never gonna be able to read everything, so it‘s my first dnf of the year. My first time with a sanderson book but hadn‘t put me off I will try maybe a series this one just not for me too slow & couldn‘t engage with the characters
I‘m not sure what happened for me ,it started out as a strong 4star read , almost like a murder mystery romantasy a strong protagonist & a broodingdark handsome possibly slightly twisted loveinterest but oh my goodness I got sobored ! By50% (arcon kindle)Sarai was repeating herself & her grudges it was obvious that her so called friend was a complete backstabbing selfabsorbed bitch who you‘d never realistically trust asfar as you could throw her.
10+🌟‘s So glad I packed this to bring away for my holiday read never easy travelling with a hardback !Wow one of the best books Iv ever read, so engrossed had no idea what was going on around me so involved with what patch & saint got up to; the pirate 🏴☠️ & the bee 🐝 keeper. Loved 🥰 it my heart was racing at that ending so many twists never saw it coming any of it ! I‘m not a crime fan but this isn‘t just crime it‘s so much more it‘s a gift
Started first holiday 😎read on the flight ✈️ isn‘t it great when you just know in the first few pages your onto a winner #holidayreads Lanzarote Spanish 🇪🇸 sunshine #wintersun
Brilliant ending typical wonderful Wesley il bebereft when Iv caught up and readall of her works , so many authors compared toAusten getting to gripswith human natures the various forms it takes , family drama petty squabbles lovers and marriages but Wesley winsOne thing I have noticed howmuch free and easy everyone was not being tied down with babies and animals just throwing everyone intothecar bus and heading moff takin sandwich‘s andthermos
Brilliantly researched and a fascinating but deeply disturbing read the casual racism and misogyny of the 50s is shocking it left me thankful not to be around in that era, women being held back in poverty turning to prostitution to make ends meet it‘s no different to Victorian times, these victims in any truecrime retelling were people ! Mothers , sisters daughters aunts friends. It is a good read but too dark and depressing to be hit for me
3.5 🌟 a disturbing dystopian read, with parallels to the handmaids tale but much much darker. Playing on the cruelty of teenage girls to each other and for perfection is spookily familiar in todays society , throw in how women have lost the right to their own bodies in the USA and many other countries & the aggressive dominance of men & the eroding of women‘s rights world wide it is eerily reminiscent & scary,
It‘s late there‘s a fine 🤣so binge reading in the British spring sunshine ☀️ 😎
Happy 😊 pancakes 🥞 day from the uk 🇬🇧 ☺️mollie moo and I with library 📚 pre orders - I‘m finding the peepshow fascinating 🧐 I wouldn‘t say I‘m enjoying it as the theme/ topic is just so terribly sad 😔 the casual misogyny and racism is making my blood 🩸 boil who the hell would want to live in the 50s let‘s pray 🙏 Wer not moving back towards these despicable attitudes
My two book soon bingo picks for March thank you @TheAromaofBooks ☺️no 1 yum I and the night painter & no 12 Mary Wesley‘s Not that kind of girl , making my way through her back catalogue, Wer also on holiday this month so have a stack of kindle books 📚 to get through mostly Arc‘s;Nesting, the boy from the sea, cleopatra, ripeness, last letter of Rachel Ellsworth, society of unknown objects, death of the author, this monster of mine & more😅
February reads a v scruffy list 😆& a bingo 🙌🏻 favourite books 📚 of the month - the husbands super cute escapism, scarred book2 never after a spicy 🌶️ retelling, the family circle #persephonebookclub loved 🥰 it favourite book of the month, part of the furniture an oldie & a goodie 2nd fav of the month, talking at night starts great 👍 becomes blah 😑 finished rivals good but not as good as tv show, before the coffeegets cold couldn‘t connect
Yeah 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 go Vermont 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻👏🏻👏🏻Wer with you 🇺🇦 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🇪🇺 it‘s been truly disastrous and depressing but there‘s always humour - love this 😂😂
Another book haul this weekend Iv been buying far too many 😣 just lately but couldn‘t resist this - look at those pages 🥰#suckerforaspecialedition 😆 book 📕 buying and loitering in book 📕 shops is alittle light relief from the reality of the world at the moment
And the world 🌍 watched in horror 😢 Vance started it , trump ended it , this is how bullies behave and do putins dirty work for him. Putin invaded Ukraine end of story hitler invaded Poland and Europe putin is a new hitler end of story 😫💔
started out as a 4star read for me but then gradually turned into a 3.5 mainly because the main protagonists kept going round in circles torturing each other with do they/don‘t they - come on !!!!!………
Not as good as the tv series which is rare but still a great 👍 romp
Isn‘t it great 👍 when you pick up a brand new spreyed edge copy in your local charity bookshop 🤩#littlethings
Mollie moonbeam does love ❤️ reading 📖 in bed 🛌 😆and so does mummy 😆 anyone who loves one day and normal people will L❤️VE this slow burn 🔥 courtship only 50pages in and got to drag myself mollie & her brother Ted out for a walk whilst the sun is shining happy 😃 Monday #litsylove #bookspinbingo
The bear family dramas Iv read ; part of the furniture was brilliant ! Just as good as the camomile lawn & now want to read all of Mary Wesley‘s back list . The family roundabout #persephonebookclub thank you @LeahBergen absolutely adored it ! Blew me away wonderful wonderful writing , any recommendations for more family dramas please 🙏 😃
Really ??? This was shortlisted for the women‘s prize ? I bought it after listening to a book tuber comparing the authors writing to Sarah waters. Sorry no ! First half is just boring , admittedly it does pick up and has a great twist at the end but sadly not worthy of more stars from me !
what a winner! Alongside highwages, to bed with grand music, the homemaker & someone from a distance this is in my favourite Persephone reads, actually I think it is my favourite. Iv tried to tag everyone in the group onto this and it wouldn‘t let me post came up with an error code … anyway the way the author captures the complexities of families , the different personalities the clashes the matriarchs of each clan -Mrs fowler & Mrs Willoughby 👇
Relaxing in the hairdressers half way into this little treat , poor poor juno. I‘m really surprised this book has such low ratings on all the main apps, perhaps 🤔 too many trigger warnings for modern sensibilities? Personally I think the writing is excellent : Mary Wesley reminds me of Elizabeth Jane Howard. Our young protagonist, juno is a victim of spoilt rich male cousins, frowned upon by their cruel mothers & ignored by her own, but is
Perfect 👌 ETL troupe bit of evil & murder thrown in, lots of smut ! 😆great valentines escapism and so much better than hooked & only book 2 !
It‘s arrived ! Did order a second hand copy this time #persephone but the cover is slightly dirty - so annoying when that happens I sell my books on or give away in pristine condition- anyway il be wiping 🧻 it down 😆and starting after the great 👍 escapist read scarred not highbrow but hey read what you fancy. Also have to get in the safe keep & before the coffee gets cold before starting this & now im back at work not so much reading time 🫤
Wonderful read , real women real stories of their amazing work and lives in ww2 all given in interviews to the author . Anyone with an interest in ww2 should read this , personally I think it should be on the secondary school curriculum, such an important part of our history “Lest we forget “ 🌺
Loved 🥰 it best fun Iv had reading a book for a while , like Bridget jones but with lots of different husbands 🤣
A very very slow paced story compared to the wonderful small pleasures which was one of my favourite books of the year when it was published. Sadly this one is lacking , I found the plot slow and boring the main protagonist as dull as dish water Helen not William . The author based the story on a real life event from the 50s which is terribly sad , at least this man got a happy ending but overall found it lacking #readinginthebath
Well that was a strange one , brilliantly translated, gothic horror , haunted house, thriller and possibly the closest thing Iv read that compares to an early Stephen king. Again alittle over long over descriptive in places but a unique different story to any other horror / gothic / thriller Iv read.
