Finished this little beauty after a wonderful massage at my gym and spa (sadly v bad shoulder ) This book is the reason book sellers are so IMPORTANT i was recommended this book by a lovely chap in Mr B‘s book emporium in Bath , never heard of Thomas Edison (omg WHY? WHAT?) not only is this one of the best stories Iv ever ever read but the writing ✍️ my goodness it‘s done by a true author a person with a real gift ,

With vibes of the Clint Eastwood & Shirley MacLaine film, a Mule for sister Sarah , a short novella excellent writing so far ☺️

This was a lovely story!

A traveller stops to help 3 nuns and 7 children who are trapped behind their wagons and being attacked by Indians.

The characters are complex and interesting, the writing is poetic, the historic setting is perfect, there‘s tension and suspense and heart-warming and heart-wrenching moments and the ending is so satisfying and beautiful.

A re-read for me. Just love the descriptions of the landscape and people, Edison puts you right there. Beautifully constructed characters and interesting relationship between Swanson and Sister Agnes, amazingly crafted story. One of my all time favourites.
