An extraordinary profile of immense courage and daring.Chanel Cleeton, New York Times bestselling author of Before We Left Cuba If you only read one WWII book this year, make it this one."Natasha Lester, New York Times bestselling author of The Paris Orphans In the depths of war, she would defy the odds to help liberate a nationa gripping historical novel based on the remarkable true story of World War II heroine Virginia Hall, from the bestselling author of Hemingways Girl France, March 1944. Virginia Hall wasn't like the other young society women back home in Baltimoreshe never wanted the debutante ball or silk gloves. Instead, she traded a safe life for adventure in Europe, and when her beloved second home is thrust into the dark days of war, she leaps in headfirst. Once she's recruited as an Allied spy, subverting the Nazis becomes her calling. But even the most cunning agent can be bested, and in wartime trusting the wrong person can prove fatal. Virginia is haunted every day by the betrayal that ravaged her first operation, and will do everything in her power to avenge the brave people she lost. While her future is anything but certain, this time more than ever Virginia knows that failure is not an option. Especially when she discovers whatand whomshe's truly protecting.

This had a slow start but then really took off. Virginia Hall is an American who works with the OSS and SOE as a spy and wireless operator in France during WWII. Considered the most dangerous spy at the time, she was in charge of extensive networks of resistance fighters. Loved that this is based on real people and events. Also my #doublespin for August

What I received for The Book Drop‘s February “Books for Tea” mailing! I have felt a little burnt out on WWII books, but this one - based on the true story of an Allied spy named Virginia Hall - looks really intriguing! #thebookdrop #bookmail #booksubscription

BennettBookworm Oohlala, what‘s the book drop?? 3y
ICantImReading @BennettBookworm hahaha we‘re addicted to book subscriptions!! 😂😂 okay so this one is a great price, and the book you receive is a surprise! They have different subscription options, like “books for tea” (contemporary/historical fiction), “books for coffee” (mystery/thriller), “books for bubbly” (romance), and they just announced a “books for elixir” (fantasy). Isn‘t that cute? I‘ve only gotten two books so far, haven‘t read either yet though 😬 3y
BennettBookworm Omg I love that concept. I don‘t even know which I would choose, they all sound so fun 😍Whoever thinks of these subscription box ideas is so clever! 3y
ICantImReading @BennettBookworm I agree!! You can choose a blend subscription, too, like I have the coffee/tea blend! But I think I could easily do bubbly or elixir 😂 I like the opportunity to support an independent bookstore, and I think I saw they try to select “hidden gems” that aren‘t marketed as much! ☺️ 3y
BennettBookworm That‘s just so awesome, I love it 3y

I'm actually giving up on September. I'm about halfway through my last 2 books but they're both 500+ pages and I like them too much to skim. So this is my final. 8 bingos. That's fine. On to October!

😊=good
🌟=really good

This was so good. And it's based on real people fighting for the liberation of France during WWII. I think the author did a great job.
