I really enjoyed this. I was hooked in right at the beginning & it never lets up. If you have ever visited an abandoned space or building, you know how eerie it is when there are no people there now, & that's without the dead bodies. I found it very atmospheric & I was actually nervous in some parts. The big reveal is actually a little less exciting than I'd imagined, but it didn't spoil the overall experience. 5🌟

I had so much fun reading this book. Claire and her team find the lost space luxury liner The Aurora but find that something horrific happened onboard. The tension and dread that build as they explore is so well done.

Ooh, this was fun! I didn‘t think a haunted (maybe?) ship in space would be so much fun. This would make an excellent movie; the visuals in my head were super creepy. 100% recommend!!

I‘m on the fence about this one. I did enjoy the story but felt the main character‘s internal dialogue was just too much at times. 3/5

I know this has mixed reviews, but I really enjoyed this Sci-fi/Horror/Paranormal story. A scavenging ship with a Captain with a dark past comes across a long missing space cruise ship. Very creepy scary things happen. Our main character is a bit annoying but not so much to detract from the story. 4⭐️

AkashaVampie I have mentioned this book to hubby becuz it sounded like something he would watch on TV. He said that it sounds just like the movie Event Horizon. 3mo
Nessavamusic @AkashaVampie it definitely has Event Horizon vibes 3mo

I think I would have liked this more but the main character drove me insane with how whiny she was and how she went on and on that she was crazy. Really distracted me from a lot of the story.

Life has been busy for me lately. I managed some time at my local library though and that always makes my day better.

I signed up for my library's summer reading program too. My first prompt is an author with my initials, so if you know any authors with the initials "CA" feel free to share.

jlhammar Library trips are the best. What about Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie? 4mo
Addison_Reads @jlhammar that's a great suggestion and I have one by this author on my TBR. Thank you! 4mo

I loved this!! It was super long. Maybe too long, but I really enjoyed it. It's a great mystery and an the details of the ghost ship are interesting - I couldn't get enough of those sections! Something about a Space Titanic. Was very appealing to me. Read it!

Really stepping out of my comfort zone with some futuristic space mystery horror. I love a good mystery and this one is lush with lots of Titanic imagery with this lost luxury space liner!

Okay, there are many good elements included with this story that make it an excellent horror story based in space. What took away from my love for it was, 1) I didn't love the female heroine. I could not connect with her, she seemed like a whiny wimp at times. 2) There was predictability in certain aspects that had me feeling impatient to move on with things, not a good feeling. So, yeah, mixed feelings with Dead Silence.

Was this scary, no. Was I frantically turning the page to find out what happened? Yes! A salvage crew stumbles across a luxury space liner that went missing 20 years ago. Once they're on board, they find the passengers and crew all all died in violent ways, but don't know what happened to them. It's a haunted house story, but in space!

Dead Silence is a science fiction novel set in space in the year 2149. It leans heavily into horror and the thriller genres when a communication repair team investigates a ship missing for 20 years to try to figure out why everyone on board is dead. I really enjoyed this novel and thought it was well written and engaging. There was just enough action and suspense to keep my interest but it still had plenty of room for character and world building.

This was a fantastic idea, it started out super creepy. I think comparing it to Titanic and The.Shining in space is accurate. The ending fell a little flat and I think it would have been more effective if Claire was currently living the terror, not recounting it.

A luxury space liner went missing decades ago but now, right as Claire is facing great uncertainty, her crew has found it. With the huge potential of the salvage in mind, they go on board and not so good things start happening. While I didn‘t find this at all scary, I liked the story and thought the final answer of what happened was a really good one. Solid debut.

Omigod I freaking loved this book!! It was sooo good! I had no idea I needed a spaceship horror in my life, but apparently I did! It was so atmospheric and creepy, and I just could not figure out what was going on. The only problem I had is at the ending It dragged a little. Too many last ditch efforts. But other then that I was captivated by this book! Highly recommend! 4.5/5

Lots to love here. Great atmosphere, some creepy and gory moments, and an intriguing story. I much preferred the first half (first half was 4.5-5 stars, second half was closer to 3 stars) and the structure of the book sometimes hurts the pacing and atmosphere, but I still really enjoyed this.

The outer space luxury liner horror thriller that I never knew I needed. I loved absolutely everything about this book. The survivalist space horror mixed with a Titanic salvage discovery feel, pulled me in and never let me go. This is the book I was wishing I was reading instead of working all week. I don't want to give anything away so instead I'll just say that I really hope we get a movie for this one. It would be absolutely wild.

Dead Silence is a mix of Titanic and The Shining. A luxury cruise spaceship is found after decades of being missing. Those that go to investigate are found in a world of delusions and confusion.

This is a great science fiction horror read by S.A. Barnes that does have a little bit of romance, but it doesn't overshadow the action. There are moments that get a little confused about what is happening, but it seems intentional.

How difficult is checking the pronunciation of a word before doing an audiobook narration? Asking for a friend since I've already read the book. ?

One character's name is Lourdes - the narrator pronounces it "Lure-Dess" ?

But the weirdest is Cassiopeia - turned into "Kass-ee-oh-Pee-eye-ya" ??? that doesn't sound right at all.

Linguist and #BookNerdProblems, I know.

nanuska_153 I'm Spanish and in high school I studied latin and ancient greek with their respective cultures and now I live in Ireland. Trying to say any greek/latin names in English is such a guessing game... 7mo
Hooked_on_books Mispronunciations of words in audiobooks drive me mad! Glad I‘m in good company. 😬 7mo
mandarchy I like to use YouTube to learn pronunciations before reading outloud. I cringe when I hear people mispronounce words - I am seeing a trend where people are changing long vowels into short vowels because maybe they think long vowels are uncouth? I have have heard people say military barrack like Obama's name. Or they change linguistic rules and insist octopi is plural for octopuses. We just have to remember that language is a living thing. 7mo

Titanic meets Event Horizon. Luxury liner has been lost in space for decades. A small crew stumbles across a distress signal and finds the ship. On board everything is frozen. In its last hours, something very sinister must have happened. All passengers and crew are dead.

But, something moved over there...

Not as chilling as I had hoped it would be, but still good.

Low pick.

3/5 ⭐

This book was quite the ride. It was a little slow at first, but then it really takes off. It has a Now and Then timeline that merges into the present. Very atmospheric with an unreliable narrator. If I have one complaint, the ending is a little too neat for the chaos throughout the book. Easily 4 stars.

🎧 This book was like if the Titanic met Ghost Ship in space & everyone went insane. I love horror. The book was suspenseful, dark & sometimes gross.

We have what you may think is an unreliable narrator in Claire. She has a sad past that will unwind as the story progresses. This is her story! She‘s so damaged which causes a lot of self doubt. She‘s a captain approaching unemployment & not happy about returning to Earth.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👇🏻

Twainy Right before their return trip they get a cry for help. What they come across is a salvage that could set them all up for life or kill them in a multitude of horrific ways! Of course they jump at the chance at untold riches!
I loved this book!

While original in its premise, and there were many creative aspects about the story, the only character who went beyond one dimension was Claire. The others fit strong cliches and this bothered me. Plus, although the science fiction horror blend was fully enjoyable, I did find the ending was more a stereotypical thriller with some common tropes from that genre thrown in. It‘s an exciting ending, despite this. I just desired a fresher approach.
