* Pre-order the smart, sophisticated, standout new thriller from the author of The Recovery of Rose Gold* Welcome to Wisewood. Where we keep your secrets, if you keep ours. High-flier Natalie Collins isn't the worrying type. Unlike her younger sister Kit - who can't seem to settle on anything. But when Kit insists on joining Wisewood, a self-help retreat on a secluded Maine island, Natalie has concerns. Why does it forbid contact with the outside world? Is it a cult? Then, after six months of silence, she receives a message: We know what you did. Would you like to come and tell your sister - or should we? Who is digging into the Collins' past? How did they discover Natalie's secret? She will have to go to Wisewood to find out. To learn if this place of healing has more sinister motives. Can she rescue Kit? Or might Natalie be the one who needs saving? Because Wisewood is far easier to get into than to leave . . . This Might Hurt is a whipsmart thriller of sisters, secrets and sanctuary and what fear will do to those we love.

This book took me on an undetermined adventure that seemed to have an ultimate ending looming as you continued to flip the pages. However, As I got to the ending, I found myself thinking “When will I be done this book”.
The author was trying to unpack and apply meaning to human pain and suffering, but I couldn‘t find the main characters‘ justification. Maybe that‘s just me.
I‘d love to know anyone else‘s thoughts on this book.

This might be a good book. I just know from the first few chapters that I wouldn't like it. I'm trying not to force myself to finish every book I pick up.

I loved Darling Rose Gold so was excited to read this one! A little more confusing as several different POVs involved, but once I finished I figured it out! Cults, parent behaving badly, release of fear thru pain….creepy good!

This book was unlike any other thriller I've read before. I picked it up because I'm always up for a good cult book but I stayed because of the dynamic between the MC and her sister, and for the twisty plotline.plot line. I never knew where it was going to go and I wasn't disappointed.

I spent a lot of the book confused as to who the flashbacks referred to!

I really did not enjoy this. I was lured in by the premise: there‘s a cult, psychological thriller with twists. I wish I would have bailed when I wasn‘t enjoying it at the beginning but so many references to the “spectacular ending” made me want to see if it was worth it. It wasn‘t. I suppose I prefer my cult books to be nonfiction. I listened to the audiobook and found it dull. As sad as it was, the child abuse scenes were the most well-done.

Chelsea.Poole @Megabooks I can‘t recommend. But some others did like it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2y
Alfoster Good to know! It looks so good but I trust Litsy folk so I‘ll return to the many books I have on my TBR shelf! 2y

Ooohh I liked this one a lot. There was a moment that was really triggering for me and I had to put it down for half a day, but i feel books should stir things in you, just take care of yourselves ❤️
A charismatic leader on a mission, a women looking for her sister on a private island resort, secrets being revealed. Yeah I liked it!

This book was not what I thought it would be. There are multiple storylines that by the end become braided together. I enjoyed it because it was something different in the thriller genre. I can't recall reading anything like it before. The relationship that is given the most attention is that of sisters Kit & Natalie & how the relationship has strained under the weight of history & secrets. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bette Totally agree with your review. It was not was I expected either and I appreciated that it didn‘t just follow the same path as other thrillers. ❤️🐱 2y

I liked how the author played with ambiguity: Is the island a self-help getaway or a cult? Are characters actions altruistic or devious? Which parenting style is worse: controlling or checked out absentee? The story sucked me right in and had plenty of twists and turns.

Here‘s Joey when he stops moving. #catsoflitsy

I enjoyed this novel as a character study in how people become attracted to cults. It goes much deeper than that I just don't want to give away too much. The only part I felt was lacking was the ending. I thought there would be a conclusion but I was left wanting. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Happy Tuesday! My favorite day of the week. For my day off, I'm starting this brand new thriller about two sisters one of which appears to have joined a cult. I'm very intrigued!

This was really very good. I liked it better than her previous novel. The characters are complicated and it takes a bit to find out how it all works together. You also don't find out exactly what the mystery is until pretty far in.
