I‘ve known a handful of harridans 😂😬😅 #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

AmyG Don‘t we all. 5d
dabbe I think a few of my students thought I was this, but they probably used an easier swear word instead. 😅 5d

CBee @dabbe oh please! I could never think of you as bossy or belligerent. If you were strict, it‘s because you wanted to push them to do their best! Would‘ve loved to see you in action 😁 5d
dabbe @CBee You are too kind! I definitely was a pusher--in all the best ways, of course! 😘 5d
vivastory 😂😂😂😂 4d
Megabooks Idk. This might be #goals for me??? 4d
CBee @Megabooks 😂😂😂 I don‘t know that I‘d necessarily blame you! 3d

I‘ve been spending the day working on a new novel idea, and it‘s my first time writing without any kind of outline.

It is both terrifying and exhilarating. 😂

Ruthiella Good luck! 🍀 3w
julesG It does sound more eloquent than 'pantser' 😉 3w
AnnCrystal It's Exhilarating! 👏🏼😉👌🏼 You got this 📝💝.. 3w

CBee How exciting!! You can do it 🙌🏻 3w
CatLass007 Awesome! I didn‘t know you are a novelist. Have you written anything in which I might be interested? You have to remember that I‘m interested in reading every genre. Also, I agree with @julesG, it does sound more eloquent than “pantster.” Thanks for the tag! 3w
BookmarkTavern @CatLass007 This one‘s a cozy mystery! And nothing published as of yet! But I‘m hoping to have something by the end of the year to start querying. We‘ll see how that goes! 🤞🏻 3w
CatLass007 Excellent! I love cozies. Does it have a theme? Cats, dogs, book club, baking, crafting, etc.? Or do you know yet? 3w
BookmarkTavern @CatLass007 my amateur sleuth has inherited an old train diner car and is restoring it as an old fashioned diner! 3w
CatLass007 Cool!! I definitely would patronize the diner. (edited) 3w

My #weirdwordwednesday pick! I remember discovering this word during a word game - maybe Words With Friends or similar - and always thought it was a bit silly sounding. This little googol mascot guy should have googly eyes, I think 😂 #weirdwords

CatLass007 Another great word! I was listening to Death Comes To Pemberley and decided to look up a word instead of just figuring out what it meant from its context. I actually should have stuck to my habit with this particular word because it was very difficult to find a real definition or even a picture. What on earth did the word jives mean in 1803? 3w
BookmarkTavern I heard the word googolplex (10 raised to the power of a googol) first when I was in school, and that‘s how I learned about googol. 😄 3w

CBee @CatLass007 jives? In 1803? Hmm. I have no idea 😂😂 3w
CBee @BookmarkTavern I should have included googolplex! 3w
CatLass007 I‘ve heard of gewgaws but not googols. “Jives around the prisoner‘s wrists,” was the quote in the book. Shackles. 3w
CBee @CatLass007 gotcha. What are gewgaws? 3w
CatLass007 Gewgaws are what I would call “thingies.” I‘ve never actually looked up the definition. As usual. 3w
CBee @CatLass007 I looked it up 😂 Couldn‘t resist. “Gewgaws:
a showy thing, especially one that is useless or worthless.”
3w
CatLass007 Okay, so I was wrong. Thingies are useful. 3w
CBee @CatLass007 I agree! Thingies are very useful, especially when you don‘t know what something is called. “That thingie over there” and such 😂 3w
CatLass007 Exactly!! 3w

CBee Oof. But the work can be so hard 😬🫩 4w

This word came up in my last read (Saltwater 🙌🏻🙌🏻). It would be so fun to ride one of these! 😊
Here‘s an article about some well-known funiculars around the world: https://www.treehugger.com/fabulous-funiculars-from-around-the-globe-4863745

RaeLovesToRead I've been on funiculars! There was a small one in Scarborough. The biggest I've been on (I think) was Lake Como. Do you have them in the US? 4w
RaeLovesToRead Ok the ones in the article are enormous! I've not been on one that big!!!!! 4w

CBee @RaeLovesToRead we do! Not sure how many, but there‘s one a couple hours from me that I might have to check out! 4w
TheBookHippie I‘ve been on a few and I‘ve been on the Lookout Mountain one, seen the LA one. There‘s one at our zoo it‘s a riot ! 4w
peanutnine A funicular was mentioned in my last read as well! What are the odds! These seem so cool, I want to ride one! 4w
ImperfectCJ The article missed this one, which is the one that taught me the word. (Until then, I just called them all trams, which is clearly wrong.): https://www.quebec-cite.com/en/businesses/funiculaire-du-vieux-quebec 4w
Bookwormjillk I rode one in Pittsburgh. Kind of fun and scary at the same time. 4w
CBee @TheBookHippie if you ever ever ever get back down to Chattanooga, you better let me know. I‘m like two hours from there! 4w
CBee @peanutnine small world! I sort of thought it sounded like a body part - like part of the spine or something 😆 4w
CBee @ImperfectCJ oooo how cool! 4w
CBee @Bookwormjillk I want to visit the one on Lookout Mountain now. 4w
Bookwormjillk @CBee I bet that's pretty! 4w
CBee @Bookwormjillk it‘s lovely up there! 4w

A Ghanaian concept, the word is expanded into the proverb “se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi.”

Sankofa is the understanding that only by knowing your (personal, cultural, national) history can you know your current self, and know how to become better.

The concept feels particularly relevant right now.

#WeirdWordWednesday #WeirdWords

shortsarahrose I‘ve heard this used in meditation practices before. Like you pick something you want to get out of your practice as a sankofa, say it a few times, and then let it go. 2mo
CBee I always love the words you post! 2mo
