Creepy and wonderfully written/researched. She did the real work. Also shout out to all the #murderinos. Also, I can‘t find my copy rn so here‘s a picture of a doll. Deal with it

LisaJo I have this abnormal fear of clowns and dolls. So, this doll, is super creepy. I think you got the effect you were going for. Even if you didn‘t have a picture of the book. 6y

I just finished this and I‘m a bit speechless. I don‘t care for football so don‘t let its inclusion in this novel dissuade you from trying it. Indoor football league takes on the nfl/an art heist drive the plot, but there is so much more. If you like heady books you will absolutely dig this. Sergio de la pava is a wizard. 🧙‍♂️

Tonton It‘s next on my list! 6y
AustenJennings @Tonton great! I‘ll be looking forward to your review! (edited) 6y
arubabookwoman I loved his first book but was hesitant about this one because the subject matter didn‘t appeal. But it sounds like maybe I should give it a try anyway. 6y
AustenJennings @arubabookwoman you definitely should. The main character nina gill is a super smart badass woman. If you liked naked singularity you‘ll love this one too 👹 6y

Michael Farris Smith is a rad dude (that‘s him looking at me while taking this awkward photo). I loved his latest novel. Dirty southern grit. Beat down characters with the hope of redemption. I read it in a sitting. Go out get this today!

Not a recipe from this book, though inspired by it. Collard greens and turnips.

saresmoore Yum. I'm interested to see a vegan recipe for collards. I tend to lean on a braise finished with bone broth. What's your liquid infused with? 7y
Lindy @saresmoore @AustenJennings I like soy sauce and garlic with my greens. Haven't yet tried Terry's signature collards, which have orange juice and raisins, appealing as that sounds. 7y
kyraleseberg Mmmm collards! Can't wait for my next garden harvest! 7y
See All 10 Comments
kristina_with_a_k Love me some collard greens! 7y
AustenJennings @saresmoore I sauté the collard stems until brown (2 bunches worth). Add water ~3 qt. Add 4 cloves garlic minced. Add 1 28 oz can fire roasted tomatoes (puréed). Bring to boil and add greens. Cook 45 mins. Add 3lbs turnips cubed. Cook 15 more mins and then add 4tbs white miso paste (whisk with some broth before adding). just ate this. V good 7y
AustenJennings oh, and add black pepper to taste 7y
AustenJennings Oh, and collard stems are chopped. Most people discard these but I feel like it's such a waste. The have lots of flavor (and nutrients probably). 7y
saresmoore That's actually quite brilliant to use the stems...and to purée the fire roasted tomatoes! Thank you for sharing! 7y
Lesliereads Cornbread! 7y
Donna_sBookMinute But isn't there fiber in the stems? They don't bother me. When I clean my own, I strip them off. But if I'm cooking the pre-washed ones, into the pot they go. And, yeah, what @Lesliereads said. 7y
