I love Ghosh‘s unique style of environmentally conscious fiction. If a book that‘s part travelogue, part social commentary, and part ecological history, interests you then I heartily recommend The Hungry Tide. And the Irrawaddy dolphins (see above) and Sundarban Islands are both central to the story and wholly unique.

The writing was choppy and the events of the story were all over the place, but it worked. The narrator was a young girl who lived in a prison for a few years before escaping as a refugee for having an out of wedlock baby. You can tell the anguish and pain went into the making of the book. #Jordan #ReadingAsia2021 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

BarbaraBB And that‘s the last one I think! Great job and happy new year Tammy 🤍 3w

It sort of reminded me of Crazy, Rich Asians with all the education and rich nuances that only those in the know -know. It was written as an expose and I enjoyed getting to know them. #SaudiArabia #ReadingAsia2021 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

An atmospheric read of the underworld crime set in Taipei #Taiwan I will definitely read more of Ed Lin. He had just the right amount of humor in his thriller. Every page was infused with food detail. #ReadingAsia2021 @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle

Librarybelle I like reading food passages in books - it‘s a great connection to the setting, I think! 3w

Right up my alley as a fifth grade science teacher. #Brunei #ReadingAsia2021 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

Side note: I have three more - about 600 more pages. (I'm in the middle of all three) I have 10 hours and 40 minutes. 😁

Librarybelle 😁 Good luck!!! 3w

I ended 2021 with #ReadingAsia2021 and I'm going to start 2022 with #ReadingAfrica2022. It will be nice to kick of 2022 with a shorter book.

#12BooksOf2021

I am sharing my almost-favorites of the year. The ones who didn‘t make my #Top21Of21 but are favorites nevertheless. One for each month.

For #December I am using the book with which I completed #ReadingAsia2021. It has been such a great experience and I can‘t wait to explore Africa thanks to @Librarybelle and #ReadingAfrica2022.

Andrew65 This looks interesting. 3w
Librarybelle Yay! So looking forward to next year‘s readings!! 3w
