I‘ve made it to the third section of this novel, and I am intrigued by these stories so far. I‘m enjoying lots of interesting vocabulary; being able to just click in my kindle version to see meanings makes it so much simpler to look things up as I read.

Lesliereadsalot I loved this book! 3mo
tpixie I love the dictionary and Wikipedia of my kindle! 3mo
tpixie Is your kindle responsiveness fast? My paperwhite is so slow- sometimes I switch to my phone app to search 3mo
Daisey @tpixie It‘s actually an old iPad that I mainly use for my class library. I only used it for the photo and a couple pages before going back to my phone without actually looking anything up. 3mo
tpixie @Daisey lol perfect!! 3mo

I‘ve only managed to read a few pages each day this week, so I‘m starting Chapter 3 “Mount Doom” with supper tonight and planning to catch up this weekend. This is a tough section as Sam and Frodo struggle on their journey, but it‘s also so descriptive.

JazzFeathers I'm still on the battlefield of Gondor. But I'm slowly moving. Yet, these chapters seems to hit home hard than usual. They are really sucking me in. 5mo

The fellowship has reached Lothlorien. Here they find a few days of peace, beauty, and rest. I always love the description of the elves‘ homes in the trees, but like the hobbits, I‘d rather not climb ladders to flets with no walls or railings. Also, we begin to see the development of the friendship between Legolas & Gimli.

gossamerchild @Daisey thank you! 😻😻 7mo
TheAromaofBooks I thought the similarities and differences between here and Rivendell were interesting. Tolkien does such a great job of giving us the elves' “vibe“ in both places, yet showing us their differences as well! 7mo

Happy Friday! Supper tonight is taco salad with all homegrown vegetables from the garden.

Chapter 4 of The Hobbit brings our dwarves and hobbit more trouble in the form of goblins. I was particularly amused by the goblins‘ singing this time. All the singing is definitely something I enjoy much more now than I did on my first few Tolkien reads.

BethM Im@not disking the singing as much as last time. We‘ll see if that holds true. 8mo
Chrys The singing seems to bother me less now than it used to, partially because I now hear it as sung by Andy Serkis in my head. 8mo

wordslinger42 @Daisey @JazzFeathers Hey, my mom, @curiouserandcurioser (Penny) is participating, but you both are tagging a different lady who has an almost identical handle 😂 Just wanted to let you know! 8mo
JazzFeathers @wordslinger42 Oh no!!!!!! 😱😱😱 Let me correct that! 😅 8mo
JazzFeathers @BethM @Chrys I used to have a very hard time with the songs. But after reading so much about Tolkien and his creative process, l'm.enjoying it a lot more. And I'm not at all a poetry person 😅 8mo

I finished this short read yesterday evening with supper. I used a few Kindle credits to purchase it thinking it might have some useful ideas for working some of my struggling math students. However, it was fairly basic and, although possibly helpful to a new teacher, did not contain any new strategies for me.

Yesterday was my last day of school, so I started this book last night and am having a bit of a lazy morning reading more of it with breakfast. That single strawberry is one of the first to ripen in my little patch. I‘m thoroughly intrigued by this book so far and am curious if see where it goes.

Pickpick

This book was good for what it was, and I enjoyed most of it. It‘s very much a story of a woman completely devoting her life to her husband and God, sometimes to her own detriment. A few scenes where she feels guilty for wanting more from Luther were tough for my 21st century perspective. I appreciate that Katharine‘s story and work is acknowledged through this book. I‘m still most intrigued by the escape of the nuns.
