Read this for #booked2022 #includesarecipe 😊
Great little book, I enjoyed it. So happy to see that the author is doing well these days after such an unexpected and traumatic health scare ♥️ Only side effect: made me wish I enjoyed cooking more at this point in my life 😂

Chrissyreadit I often wish I enjoyed cooking. 2w
CBee @Chrissyreadit I do too, all the time! I‘d love to bake cookies and cakes and all sorts of yummy food, but I‘m too tired 😂😂 2w
Chrissyreadit @CBee same! I am happy when I do cook but it takes me all day between finding what I need and prepping, cooking and clean up. I‘m tired just thinking about it most of the time. 2w

CBee @Chrissyreadit and you‘re vegan, right? I can imagine that would make it harder 🤔 2w
Prairiegirl_reading I love cooking but I haven‘t been doing as much as I used to. I‘m just too tired! I can‘t even meal plan anymore. 2w
CBee @Prairiegirl_reading I totally understand! 2w
Chrissyreadit @CBee yes vegan- but I suspect cooking is just not my forte. I wonder if it‘s because I finally realize I have ADHD- I burn a lot of food, can‘t remember where I put the can opener down Two seconds before, discover I forget to make sure I had one vital ingredient 😆🤷‍♀️ 2w
CBee @Chrissyreadit oh! Yep, that‘s probably the reason. I think I have it too, or some form of it 🤔 2w
Cinfhen I read this a few years back and loved it too!! I even made a few of the recipes!! BTW- very interesting regarding ADHD and following a recipe/cooking @Chrissyreadit I NEVER thought about that 2w
CBee @Cinfhen I got to the part where she made a certain special cake and holy moly it was four pages of instructions 😂😳 2w
Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen I‘ve always been teased about my scattered cooking skills, and this year realized I check all the boxes for ADHD, and have my entire life! Now I‘m trying to just make a meal plan- this has been my goal since the first round of #bfc and still can‘t! Sigh. 2w
Cinfhen Yeah @CBee I only choose the 8 ingredients or less recipes 😉 2w
CBee @Cinfhen definitely! After 8 or so my brain turns to mush 😂😂 2w
Cinfhen It makes so much sense @Chrissyreadit Sorry it took so long to figure out what you‘re dealing with 💖 2w

The Light of the World: A Memoir | Elizabeth Alexander
post image

The author‘s husband dies unexpectedly and too soon. Their young son finds him in his last moments. And his beloved wife, now a widow, processes these events and figures out how to go on alone. Yup, super emotional. And absolutely beautifully written. Alexander is a poet and professor. She knows the craft of writing. And it shows. Loved every word of this!

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was a good story with the narrative of problems facing people leaving the Caribbean islands and going to the U.K./U.S
I don‘t have a picture of a black cake - but here‘s my daughter‘s 21st cake 😁 it‘s family party tonight and I sneak read the end of this book in the bath this afternoon before chaos descends.

I loved this! The author was the restaurant critic of the New York Times in the early/mid Nineties. She ends up wearing disguises in order not to be recognised and it‘s so interesting how she is treated when the restaurants don‘t know who she is. The book also includes some of her actual reviews alongside the back story of how she fared at each visit.

Thanks for sending it to me Cindy!

vivastory I'd be curious to know how much weight a restaurant critics has now, or if like other critics they have to compete with social media buzz & online reviewers. Years & years ago I used to frequently read the restaurant reviews in the weekly alternative paper where I live & there were a few memorable instances where a favorable review turned a fairly new & beloved restaurant into a big success. 2mo
squirrelbrain It‘s interesting to consider, isn‘t it? @vivastory There are still restaurant critics in many UK newspapers and magazines but they do tend to be quite London-focused. I bet the more local, quirky restaurants do quite well from social media but, of course, a bad review could do huge damage as well. 2mo
Cinfhen So glad you enjoyed it 😁it definitely felt dated but still a great read 2mo

The Henna Artist | Alka Joshi
post image

I found this book fascinating! My lovely ESL student is a henna artist, and we often discuss her art. She started a small henna business. Reading this book gave me an understanding of the cultural significance and intricacies of the Art. The main character,Lakshmi,is a strong woman who struggles to be independent and care for her younger sister. Life in 1950‘s Jaipur comes alive in this book! #booked2022 #includesarecipe

BarbaraTheBibliophage I liked this one also. Haven‘t read the second book yet, though. 4mo
DivineDiana @BarbaraTheBibliophage My student is still reading this one, and then we will discuss. We are planning to continue with the next one! 4mo
Cinfhen I LOVED this book too!! But I couldn‘t get into the sequel 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4mo

Body and Soul Food | Abby Collette
post image

Collette has another winning cozy mystery series with this first in the Books & Biscuits mystery series. Twins Keaton and Koby reunite after a lifetime apart and open up a soul food restaurant and bookstore. But, their opening is shadowed by a friend‘s death. There are parts of this one that didn‘t quite connect, but I loved the book references and the perseverance of the characters. There are recipes in the back too!

Liatrek Can‘t wait to read this one. 5mo

Friends, this woman is a pure light in this world. I discovered her last year and will watch anything she does. Tabitha posts vegan recipes on social media but does so with such warmth and personality that I find irresistible. I know there‘s so many of these “positivity” influencers out there but Tab feels so genuine and she‘s such an inspiration to me. Trust me, seek this woman out in any form you can: book, online, wherever! Continued below 👇

Chelsea.Poole I realized I gushed about Tab and didn‘t mention the book at all 😆 So, the book is a great introduction to her philosophy on life interspersed with tidbits about her past and how she got where she is now. She includes a recipe at the end of each chapter. Also, she doesn‘t shove the vegan thing down your throat in the book, I felt. There‘s actually very little about it in the book. Loved it because I love her so much! 🍋 5mo

Why yes, I bought a 🌈 bagel specifically to match with my book photo! 😂

It took me a week to get through what should have been a quick cozy read. Part of that was me and my fatigue, but the other part was a general annoyance with the lack of emotions in this story. I loved all the Filipino food descriptions, and I will give the 2nd book a try, but it was painfully obvious this was a debut. Was Lila supposed to be emotionally distant? 🤷🏻‍♀️

PurpleyPumpkin Well done on the matching bagel!😆 5mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage Love the bagel choice!! Well done! And I concur about this book. I definitely had mixed feelings about it. Glad I borrowed it too. I admit to trying ube ice cream in October, simply because of this book. Soooo sweet! 5mo
Cinfhen Ha!! That bagel 🥯 5mo
