I bought this book at a low point looking for something fun and different to take my mind off things, and it did not disappoint! I love the characterization and development this offers even in such a short book. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try!

What a ride this was! I think I missed at least half of the clues (so much is happening in the same day, happening over and over again) but I don‘t mind. I thoroughly enjoyed traveling with Aiden from one host to another in his race against the clock; he has to find out who murdered Evelyn Hardcastle to be freed from this repeating day. What an original and fun locked room mystery!

RaeLovesToRead I loved this and I loved his second book too 😊 1y
BarbaraBB @RaeLovesToRead I will definitely check out what he wrote next! I am glad you encouraged me to read it when I mentioned I planned to! 1y
Cortg I‘ve been wanting to read this one! 1y

BarbaraBB @Cortg I bought it soon after its publication but it took me years to finally pick it up! 1y
Tamra I‘ve got to get to this one! 1y
IndoorDame I feel like I missed so many things the first time too. I think it‘s been long enough that I‘m ready for a reread to see how much more I clue into 1y
BarbaraBB @IndoorDame I‘d take notes if I‘d reread it 😁 1y
TheKidUpstairs I agree with @RaeLovesToRead - his second book was great too. Different, but just as engrossing and fun. A true 'yarn'! 1y
Cinfhen Excellent review!! Totally agree with everything you said!!! 1y
BarbaraBB @TheKidUpstairs I already checked it out. It does sound very good indeed!! 1y
squirrelbrain Great review! I really need to get to this one…. 1y
batsy Sounds so fun! Same, @squirrelbrain I too bought it soon after it was released and it's been chilling on my shelf for some time 😆 1y
Centique Loved this review - I too found it a thrilling ride and I‘m sure I missed so much! It will be fun to reread. 1y
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @batsy It‘s very entertaining. Bit of an Agatha Christie vibe! 1y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen @Centique Thank you 😊 1y
squirrelbrain Isn‘t it always the way?! @batsy 1y

I love the concept of this novella - that our future need not be doom & gloom. This was childlike and enchanting - a sweet escape. Works for #HugoAwardWinner #pop22 and #Booked2022 #HopePunk ♥️ #Hoopla

Cortg Excellent! 1y
BarbaraBB Great that you ended up liking it. Did you finish pop now? 1y
Cinfhen Yes!!!! I finished pop + the bonus prompts @BarbaraBB @Cortg 🙌🏻♥️ but I won‘t be moving on with this series!!! 1y

Cortg But you liked it! I just picked it up at work. It may sit on my desk a while and may (or may not) get read. We‘ll see. Sounds like something different though, and that‘s what I liked. 1y
Megabooks Congratulations on finishing pop!! 🎉🎉🎉 1y
Centique Well done you! It‘s certainly oddball but once you settle into it, it‘s a sweet story 1y
Cinfhen Oddball is a perfect word choice @Centique but so is sweet for this one!! Thanks @Megabooks 😁I‘m excited to see the new prompts for #pop23 1y
Cinfhen I have a feeling you‘ll enjoy the strangeness @Cortg it‘s sort of simple and comforting 1y

Who‘d have thought I‘d like a book set in the future, with a robot? Well, I did; it was a very sweet book - not at all robot-y! I‘m not sure I‘d read any more in the series though.

This is my last book for #booked2022 #hopepunk- yay!

I‘m also using this for #hugoawardwinner for #pop22 & only have two more books to go for that challenge. One I‘ve just started on audio, and the other is the #authoramonth for November - how organised am I?! 😇

MicheleinPhilly Very. Can you please organize my non-reading life? 😉 1y
Cinfhen Fantastic 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼this book is next up for me and will also be my final book for #Pop22 and #Booked2022 😊 1y
Caroline2 Oh which book ya reading for Nov author a month?? 🤔 1y
See All 16 Comments
squirrelbrain @Caroline2 - I‘m going to read this one. 1y
squirrelbrain I can do you a spreadsheet for that! 🤣 @MicheleinPhilly 1y
Cortg Congrats on finishing #booked2022 😃 1y
Caroline2 @squirrelbrain OH OH I have that on my kindle if ya fancy a….. BUDDY READ!!! 👏 🎉 🥳 1y
squirrelbrain Ooh a buddy read?! @caroline2 Let‘s see if we can make one a success! 🤣 1y
rockpools You are SUPER organised! So glad you enjoyed this one 🤖 🫖 😊 1y
BarbaraBB Are you torturing me dear Helen? The most beautiful parcel just arrived for my birthday! I have to hide it to stop myself from opening it before November 13! Thank you soooo much ❤️❤️ 1y
squirrelbrain You can open it early if you wish! @BarbaraBB - I sent it really early as we‘re having a lot of postal strikes here so I wanted to allow plenty of time! (Perhaps a bit too much time! 🤣) 1y
JamieArc Good job finishing the #Booked2022 prompts! This is my first year participating and I think I‘m actually going to finish with just 4 prompts left. 1y
squirrelbrain Hopefully you‘ll finish too! 🤞 @JamieArc 1y
BarbaraBB I‘ll wait. It‘s kind of nice to know that it‘s hidden there, behind my books! 1y
Caroline2 Yay! I‘ll try not to bail this time. 😆 although I have been bailing like a mad thing lately!!! 🤦‍♀️ 1y

Beautifully lyrical, romantic and intricate. This epistolary love story, tells of two female time-traveling spies, communicating through letters as the ongoing war ravages their opposing sides. As I often do with this genre( very outside my comfort-zone) I find the world-building sci-fi bits more distracting than anything else. But the human connection shines here. The writing is really gorgeous, and in such a brief novella, so much is said.

Librariana I think this is now the second time I see 'hopepunk' as a subgenre and I love the way it sounds (just looked up its definition and like it even more!) I love hearing about lyrical, beautifully-written prose so thank you for sharing this fabulous review 😊 1y
squirrelbrain Wonderful review! I‘m just about to start a book that also covers both of these prompts, otherwise I may have decided to read this, based on your review. 1y

I have to say I wouldn‘t have chosen to read this had it not been for #pop22 #ownvoicesSFF, and I chose it because it was so short.

However, I did enjoy it (loved the narrator on audio) but don‘t think I‘ll read further on in the trilogy; it‘s just not my genre.

Would also work for #hugoawardwinner too.

BarbaraBB You‘ll be finishing #pop22 ahead of us all, while you joined months later 🤣🙌🏽 1y
squirrelbrain Another 4 (or maybe 5?) to go I think @BarbaraBB 1y
BarbaraBB That means I‘m still in the race 😉 1y

squirrelbrain Ooh, don‘t tell me it‘s a race @BarbaraBB, or I‘ll speed up! 🤣 1y
BarbaraBB No! no! no! 😂😂 1y
Cinfhen Ohhh, I read this for a different prompt but maybe I can shift things around because my LAST prompt is #HugoAward and im having difficulty completing a book 1y
squirrelbrain This one works for #hugoaward @cinfhen - I‘m starting it this week. It‘s the one that @rockpools is loving, and also works for #hopepunk. (edited) 1y
Cinfhen Ohhhh. Ok!! I‘m gonna try that one too!!! Thanks xxxx 1y

#pop22 #hugoawardwinner @Cinfhen @Abailliekaras @Kalalalatja @Cortg @KarenUK @Megabooks @RaeLovesToRead @squirrelbrain @Laughterhp

I think this would be a good intro to Ken Liu's work if you were unsure whether you'd like him or not.

Thanks @Leniverse for sending it me in the #speculativespringswap!

Cinfhen This is my final prompt left for #pop22 1y

I have one book left for #Pop22 - #HugoAwardWinner - suggestions??!?!?

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Just going off the covers (and without knowing a single thing about the story) - The Childrens Secret looks interesting 2y
julesG Hugo winner 2017 2y
See All 35 Comments
julesG Also 2021 2y
julesG Can recommend all of them, also as audiobooks. The best audiobook was The Calculating Stars, because it's read by the author. 2y
TheAromaofBooks Out of the ones @julesG posted, I really enjoyed Project Hail Mary, mostly because of the snarky humor 😂 2y
julesG @TheAromaofBooks I fear Cindy has read this already. 2y
Megabooks I‘m stuck on Hugo too, but I‘ll take a look at the list. Thanks @julesG ! 2y
Cinfhen Woohoo!!! Thanks for all the suggestions @julesG 😘😘😘I‘ve read a few but there are some that you suggested that I will definitely look for!!!! Amazing list 🙌🏻 2y
Cinfhen And you‘re right @julesG @TheAromaofBooks I have read and enjoyed Project Hail Mary. 2y
Cinfhen I choose Children‘s Secret @thegirlwiththelibrarybag for the prompt #TakesPlaceAtAParty - it was ok, not great but a decent listen. I got the audio through Hoopla. 2y
jenniferw88 I loved this one, I'm using book 2 for that prompt! 2y
Cinfhen I tried it once @jenniferw88 but I wasn‘t getting into it. I know it‘s universally loved! 2y
BarbaraBB These are good 2y
BarbaraBB And I am going to read this one for the prompt 2y
Cinfhen I‘ve read all 3 @BarbaraBB but I appreciate your suggestions 😘 2y
BarbaraBB I could have known 🤓😘 2y
squirrelbrain I‘ve got this one on my potential list, mentioned by @julesG 2y
Cinfhen I‘ve actually read Ten Thousand Doors @squirrelbrain and I liked it!! I think I‘m gonna try this one @BarbaraBB suggested by @julesG 2y
BarbaraBB Cool! 2y
julesG Enjoy! 2y
Cortg I‘m not a big sci-fi reader and the book I‘m planning on you‘ve already read but I did read and love American Gods and The Graveyard Book. Both Neil Gaiman but I kinda ❤️ him. *The Graveyard Book is a middle grades book but it was high on our family roadtrip listens. 2y
KarenUK I‘m going with this one I think… 2y
Cinfhen Thanks for the recs @KarenUK @Cortg I‘ve never read NG so this might be a good time to try his books!! 2y
Centique @Cinfhen there are two novellas before Master of Djinn which are shorter if you want to use one of them for the prompt. I kinda liked the book better having read them first. But I‘m thinking you might like NG better. 2y
Centique I guess the novellas didn‘t win a Hugo award though. One of them was nominated if that counts. 😉 2y

‪Just got my copy of The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin. Windsor & I can't wait to start it! This series is amazing, and its author is probably the best fantasy author in the game these days. #TheBrokenEarth#TheStoneSky #NKJemisin #fantasy #TheFifthSeason #HugoAwards #HugoAwardWinner

CrowCAH Cute dragon! 🐉 7y
BillBlume @CrowCAH Windsor is a grumpy dragon, but he's entertaining. 😸 7y
