I made it through! Honestly, I do not see how this novel works after being scrubbed of the fic. The emotional weight of it relies entirely on feelings readers bring to it from HP. Genuinely, nothing here for me. Very curious to see the wider world's reaction to Alchemised but I don't think I'll be reading it. I don't trust that the publisher invested in the editorial work this would have needed to stand on its own (if that edit were possible).

what a great book,an absolute joy to read . Iv already decided to gift this book to my elderly neighbours this Christmas, & why isn‘t Susan Fletcher more well known ? , It‘s bonkers shes a fabulous writer & il be seeking out the rest of her books. This is a far superior read to Richard Osmans Thursday murder club which was ok but nowhere near as good as this.mollie & I finished the book whilst visiting Bath last weekend ,where we met the author

Another morning coffee.Overall the tagged book was a good read but I did find Alice rather immature.
It‘s a dual timeline story. It‘s 1881 & the love affair between Austin Dickinson & Mabel Todd is explored. Move to 2013 & Alice Dickinson(no relation)is researching their story to write a script.Her quest takes her to Amherst where she finds”love,”secrets, & betrayal in the lovers story & her own.Emily D hovers ghost like on the sidelines.A so-so.

peanutnine I can't help but feel a bit hopeful like Garth that maybe Fred will get the estate he was expecting and actually have the skills now to run it properly... Maybe. Seems too good to be true almost 3y
