Slaying it @MallenNC @monalyisha my second book from Melyssa‘s #ALspine list and another definite PICK!! Minnie Driver was just a lovely person to spend time with today. I enjoyed hearing her journey in essays and found her refreshing and authentic. Her unconditional upbringing led to some very colorful & heartfelt stories. While it‘s s bit of a stretch to use for #Barbados & #Uruguay I am😄 #ReadingAmericas23

I‘ve read dozens of Holocaust NF and this one ranks amongst the most moving & compelling. Walter Rosenberg, a bright young man from Slovakia risked his life to escape from Auschwitz, in order to warn the Hungarian Jews, the last Jewish community to be deported, what would befall them in the coming weeks. Rosenberg defines the word hero in every sense & facet. This book is begging for a movie adaptation! It‘s a stunning story & worthy of 5 ⭐️

Yay 😁 I couldn‘t believe how little I knew about this specific story @jlhammar @Megabooks - out of the millions of Jews brought to Auschwitz only 4 Jews successfully escaped! And 105 Poles & Soviets in total who were being held as enemies of the Reich. 2mo

Ana, 15 is pledged to Juan, a much older man who has US citizenship. Within weeks, Ana is married & shipped off to the US away from her family & all she knows. Juan is not the hero the family promised he‘d be. I thought this book would be light & frothy but it‘s quite dark & grim👇🏼
