This was an enjoyable read. I love the vivid descriptions of the idyllic Corfu; the ominous atmosphere; the right amount of romance and suspense; and the references to Shakespeare's Tempest. A great escape read!

I played the #islandvibes playlist on a roadtrip yesterday and decided to throw in my own recommendation! I didn‘t read the book this month although I am due a reread so … and added On the floor by J Lo - the lambada element makes me think of holidays to Mallorca as a little girl #titlesandtunes

Cinfhen Thanks for adding to the playlist🥳 Hope you‘ll join us for June‘s theme #GuiltyPleasure 1w

I absolutely loved this book. I'm so glad that I finally read it. Edward Dantes is wrongfully thrown in prison, but after almost 2 decades, he escapes. He then finds hidden treasure and then goes after the people who wronged him 🖤

I liked this one for a quick, easy read with #IslandVibes for #TitlesandTunes It‘s by no means perfect & I thought the twists were pretty easy to guess, but the tension was built up nicely & it kept me turning the pages. I liked the atmospheric remote island setting, beautiful but creepy & menacing. Overall a decent summer thriller & I am happy to have it off my #BOTM TBR stack at last! 🌺📚

Cinfhen I agree….the cover art was probably better than the story but it was still a decent read. Excited to see what you‘ll choose for #GuiltyPleasure 2w
BarbaraBB The cover is so tempting indeed! 2w

jenniferw88 It was much easier for me to come up with the book & song for this prompt! I've had the template ready for weeks 😂 2w
dabbe Such a fun idea! Thanks for doing this. LOVE the list! 🤩🤩🤩 2w
Cinfhen Hahaha @jenniferw88 Great @dabbe Excited to see what you both come up with ♥️ 2w
squirrelbrain Looking forward to seeing all of the choices! 2w
Bookwormjillk I have the book still thinking about the song 2w
dabbe @Cinfhen 😘 2w
Jari-chan Thank you for the song collection and this challenge!❤️ 2w
TrishB I think I have this one sorted👍🏻 great to see the whole list. 2w
julieclair I‘m the opposite of @Bookwormjillk . I have the song, but still thinking about the book. 2w
Cinfhen Honestly, my list of #GuiltyPleasure songs is SO LONG @TrishB @Jari-chan I can‘t decide which one to choose 2w
Cinfhen I‘m the same as @Bookwormjillk 😄 @julieclair although I do have a few authors that fall under the #GuiltyPleasure category 2w
jenniferw88 I had the singer, which led to the book, which led to the song (the book is a title of one of the songs he's covered!) 2w
DGRachel Ooh. This one is going to be tough. I‘m trying to reject the idea of guilt or shame around things I read. I may have to back into it by picking a song I‘d be embarrassed for anyone to find on my phone. 🤣🤣 2w
BarbaraBB Clever to post the whole list again! Looking forward so much to June‘s playlist 💃💃💃💃 2w
Cinfhen I stand by ALL of my song choices @DGRachel even the Ketchup Song 🎧 2w
Cinfhen Me tooooooooo @BarbaraBB Im sure the playlist is gonna be hilarious 😂 2w
DGRachel @cinfhen 🤣🤣 I‘m sure I can find a song from middle school that is cringe-worthy. 2w
willaful @DGRachel I do as well, but as a romance reader I have no lack of embarrassing options. 😂 2w
CarolynM Hmm, this is a hard one. I think I‘ll be taking the “embarrassing” route too @DGRachel @willaful 2w
Rissreads I‘m struggling with this one! 2w
Bklover I have the song picked out - still pondering the book. 2w
Rissreads @CarolynM yep definitely a cringey song! 2w
Rissreads This playlist is going to be a Clanger! Bat shit crazy! 🤣 2w
Librarybelle I‘m debating the song - do I go with a song I‘d so hate others to know I like or a song about guilty pleasures??? 🤔😂 Still thinking about the book! 2w
Cinfhen The possibilities are endless @Librarybelle @Rissreads @Bklover @willaful @CarolynM There are too many choices and I can‘t wait to listen to them all!!!!! 2w
batsy This is a fun but deeply complex theme lol! I'm still mulling over my song pick... The book might be easier, I think. 2w
EclecticBookLover May didn't work our for me, but im looking forward to June! 2w

#IslandVibe #Titlesandtunes
I was never assigned Lord of the Flies in school, but it's been a long-time resident on my shelf and one I'd been interested in trying. So this month's prompt is a great excuse, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I just finished the scene where they're feasting on pig meat, so I thought Jimmy Buffett's 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' might be a fitting song pairing (even if a hotdog theme would be even closer 🌭 🏝).

Leftcoastzen 👏😄 2w

BarbaraBB Glad you found a reason to read Lord of the Flies, it‘s worth it! And I love the song you chose 🤣 2w
LeahBergen I read this in grade nine and loved it! 2w
vivastory I really enjoyed this one when I read it a couple of years ago and find myself thinking about it often 2w
Cinfhen So glad you found the opportunity to pick up this book!! Fantastic pairing 💙🐷 2w
batsy I loved this when I read it long ago! I've been scared to reread it because it was kind of like entering a particular world at the right time and you don't know if that world will stay the same when you go back 🙂 I hope you like it; you and I have the same theme for #IslandVibes because I read this one which I also recommend if you like Flies (though A High Wind is more sophisticated) 2w
Suet624 Read this for school and it put me off reading books. Such cruelty. 2w
Liz_M Another good continuation of the theme (and was written in reaction to LotF, I think?) is the tagged: 2w
Billypar @BarbaraBB Me too! The song checks the island and carnivore boxes but may be just a bit off tonally for the material - not sure it would fit on a LoTF film soundtrack 😅 2w
Billypar @LeahBergen With all of the questionable selections in the high school canon, this one seems like a better choice than most! 2w
Billypar @vivastory It's got such an intensity right from the start - I can definitely see it sticking with you. 2w
Billypar @Cinfhen I realized that the last one I just finished also took place on an island but definitely no island vibes in 19th century Sicily, lol (edited) 2w
Billypar @batsy I have so many old favorites in that category - I'd love to revisit them but fear disappointment. I remember considering A High Wind in Jamaica when I was trying to find possible picks for the nyrb club - I'll definitely have to check it out! 2w
Billypar @Suet624 I could see that! In most books, I think the leader would be more heroic and stick up for the boy getting picked on, but he's just another bully. 2w
Billypar @Liz_M That's quite a title - I stacked it. I like it when authors respond to a past novel but do more than just a simple retelling or modern update. 2w
Rissreads This book is one of my favourites! I read it at school then reread it not long ago. I‘m glad I did as there was so much I had forgotten. (edited) 2w
Billypar @Rissreads I honestly never realized how many people loved this book - I probably would have picked it up sooner if I had! 2w

Afraid this post is lacking books today. Sorry!

In a moment of mid-life-crisis, I signed up for Race for Life a couple of weeks back. 5K run to raise funds for Cancer Research. If anyone wants to sponsor this daft endeavour, thank you! https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/rachel-runs-race-for-life-2023

I have the BEST place for ‘training‘ (walking a bit, despairing of the fact this will take forever, walking a bit more, bit of a run…)

rockpools And yes, that is a rabbit chilling out by the lido. Playlist has (of course) been Island Vibes! Alternated with the audiobook of the Confession of Frannie Langton, which is great but not quite as fast and enthusiastic as I need. And Big Nate Goes for Broke, which probably is! 3w
squirrelbrain Good luck! 😬 You‘re very brave! 3w
rockpools @squirrelbrain Thank you so much Helen! I‘m not sure brave is the word 🫤. I think I‘ll be bumbling along at the back! 3w

rockpools @Cinfhen ? It‘s a fantastic list! Just when you‘re starting to flag… Beyoncé! ??‍♀️ 2w
julesG You can do it! We're here to cheer you on, and give music and audiobook advice. 😉 2w
CarolynM Good luck🍀 I‘ll donate to a local cancer charity in support🙂 2w
rockpools @julesG I need audiobook advice!! 2w
rockpools @CarolynM Aw, thank you Carolyn! I‘ll let you know how I get on. 2w
julesG I've enjoyed Sanderson's Tress of the Emerald Sea recently. 2w
julesG The Bandit Queens were good on audio, too. 2w
julesG Or are you looking for books about running? 2w
rockpools @julesG Thank you. Tress is reserved (tho the queue is LONG). I feel like I‘ve only just heard of Sanderson and now he‘s EVERYWHERE! No, not looking for books about running - more ‘up‘/fast-paced books to let me pretend that‘s absolutely not what I‘m doing, and stop me grinding to a halt! 2w
julesG Have you read The Invisible Library yet? It's fast-paced. I'm about to do an audiobook reread since my daughter wants to get into the series. 2w
julesG Re: Sanderson. Yepp, I thought so too. His books pop up everywhere I look it seems. 2w
julesG Another good audiobook was 2w
rockpools @julesG There we go! Nabbed Counterfeit! Thank you 😊. I‘d thought that looked good when it came out, so I‘ll give that a go for starters. And Invisible Library sounds FUN! Stacking that for possibly next. 2w
Knitmaths So glad you did decide to go for it! 2w
rockpools @Knitmaths 😁 Tomorrow I attempt Park Run, as ‘practice‘. Gaah! 2w

A carnivalesque children‘s adventure story of trauma; Freud meets Rabelais. Rebecca West‘s blurb sums it up best: “A hot draught of mad, primal fantasy and poetry”. In tone, reminds me of Unica Zurn‘s Dark Spring. This is gallows humour with a complexity that can‘t be ignored; a grim parody of Victorian adventure stories & the anti-Famous Five. Full review here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5547619162 Absolutely odd, a surreal fever dream.

There‘s a shortage of books set on #anguilla but I found this used copy for only 75p and I‘m so glad I did.

It follows the authors as they set up a restaurant on the island and it‘s just my kind of ‘travelogue‘ - all about the lovely people that they meet. Hurricane Luis felt a bit tagged on at the end but still a really nice, easy, read.

As well as being for #readingtheamericas23 this is also my pick for #titlesandtunes #islandvibes

Read4life I met the Blanchards years ago when they were promoting a book. They gave people they spoke to polished, colored glass with smiley faces on them. They said to keep it in your pocket and hold it or feel it whenever you felt overwhelmed, unhappy, in need of a reminder of peace, happiness & your worth or pass it to someone with a kind word. 3w
BarbaraBB What a great catch! And I love your story @Read4life they seem very nice people 3w
