Mehso-so

Starting in 1982, Simon Winchester traveled to the remaining parts of the UK outside the British Isles, from Tristan da Cunha to #Bermuda to the Falkland Islands (arriving there at a very interesting time). Aspects of this book are super interesting, but the book is ultimately flawed by relying so heavily on the British viewpoint and ignoring that of the locals.

A romantic suspense set in #Bermuda (read for #ReadingTheAmericas2023). A woman is on her way to Bermuda to investigate her brother‘s death, when the plane crashes & she is the only survivor. She is mistaken for another passenger and uses this identity to carry out her investigation. A bit light on the investigation & too heavy on romance side for me. A soft pick. Available free to download if you are a member of Audible.

A super short ebook available for free on Kindle Unlimited, it quickly describes the Triangle, the mysteries that have occurred there, the various theories, and the scientific explanations. It includes photos and illustrations. This book is meant for elementary level students but I really liked reading the very short simple explanations.

BarbaraBB You are racing through the prompts, will you finish the challenge again? 🤞🏽 5mo
Texreader @BarbaraBB I‘m trying really hard! I feel like I still have too many countries left, but if I don‘t have a big setback like a reading slump, I think I stand a chance. 5mo
BarbaraBB Impressive 😀 5mo
Librarybelle Sometimes the books written for a younger audience are the best! I like them to learn about a topic in a nutshell. 5mo

Hahahaha! Yes this jives with my memories of the terror of the Bermuda Triangle growing up in the 70s. This is hilarious reading it now. I truly thought it was one of those real-life terrors we‘d all have to face one day. We poor kids were so brainwashed about the Triangle!!

TheBookHippie Oh my word. Yes terrified!!!! 5mo
RamsFan1963 I remember watching one of those pseudo documentaries about the Bermuda Triangle when I was a kid. Scared the crap out of me!! 5mo
TheBookgeekFrau @RamsFan1963 I think we watched the same one 😱🔺😂 5mo

Growing up in the 1970s, I thought dealing with the Bermuda Triangle was going to be one of those big adult things I‘d have to deal with since it was always in the news. Of course, not. But I still find it interesting. This is my next ebook. #Bermuda #readingtheAmericas @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

Kimzey I recall writing a short story in high school (in the 70s) involving the Bermuda Triangle. Definitely a hot topic back in the day! 🏝️🔼 5mo
Susanita It‘s also the title of a particularly cheesy Barry Manilow song. 5mo
Texreader @Susanita Oh I like Barry Manilow (my first concert) in a nostalgic kind of way. But I don‘t know that one. I‘ll have to look it up. 5mo

A mixed reading experience. I‘m impressed by Fox‘s writing style, poetic and dreamy yet informative. However, the format didn‘t always agree with me. Its nonlinear, fragmentary organization made me lose the thread sometimes, especially since I wasn‘t binge reading it. Still, a fascinating, if niche, topic written about beautifully with accompanying illustrations, including Else Bostelmann‘s wonderful paintings.

psalva I was reviewing the StoryGraph challenge and just realized I‘d been delinquent in tagging @BarbaraBB and @Librarybelle for all of my Reading the Americas posts. Ugh. 😞My apologies, and I‘ll try to tag y‘all for the remainder of the year as I catch up with my TBR📚📚📚 7mo

For #ReadingTheAmericas2023 I selected this title for Bermuda. I can see why back in the day this was considered a creepy yet page-turning read. For me it was a 🌟🌟🌟 1/2 read. Very atmospheric. @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

Another #ReadingAmericas23 audio that I flew through 🥰I thought this would be a mindless listen ( and it was😉) but it was so entertaining and a great escape. Two moneyed Greenwich families fly to #Bermuda for their daughter‘s destination wedding, where of course family secrets explode. Would work for #52BookClub23 #secrets #contemporarysetting #Scribd

Librarybelle Another one for me to check out! I love listening to mindless stories while doing house chores…😂 1y
Cinfhen Exactly @Librarybelle !!! 1y
squirrelbrain Ooh, goody, another one that *is* on Scribd, although I can‘t remember what I‘d already noted for this prompt, so we‘ll see…. 1y
Cinfhen It was mindless but entertaining @squirrelbrain and it definitely could be a #doubledip @Librarybelle 1y
