We‘re half way through the month, #LiteraryCrew !

I‘ve seen mixed reviews on this month‘s reading. Anything to share so far?

Discussion on the 31st!

CatLass007 I didn‘t get very far with this one, although what I did listen to was good. I‘m just not in the right frame of mind for it right now. I‘ve learned that I‘m a mood reader in my old age. 1w
Librarybelle @CatLass007 Nothing wrong with being a mood reader! 1w

It's July, which means our next #LiteraryCrew #BuddyRead title! I'm looking forward to this one, and admittedly, I have a bit of cover love for it!
Anyone is welcome to join this low key buddy read.
Read at your own pace, with discussion questions on July 31st. I will post periodic checkins throughout the month.
Please let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the tag list!

Librarybelle Thanks for reposting! 3w

Maryse Condé died yesterday. She won the New Academy Prize (the alternative to the Nobel Prize for Literature awarded in 2018, when the Nobel Academy was on hiatus).
I read my 1st book by her when I was 11 - it was a middle-school novel called Haiti chérie. I had no idea she was a renowned writer then. I've been meaning to read her latest - The Gospel According to the New World. I should now.

Pickpick

Solid 3 stars. Such an interesting novel. About halfway and beyond it teetered from slow to rushed. Still enjoyed most of it.

Pickpick

A brilliant book with a wonderful central character, Washington ‘Wash‘ Black. His emotional story is skilfully narrated throughout the novel and the character development from boy to man is superbly written. I defy anyone not to feel deeply for him. The ending seemed to bring him some peace and I was relieved that he was determined to be recognised for the brilliant mind he was in the end, rather than become a footnote to his own achievements.
