Apprentice in Death
Apprentice in Death | J. D. Robb
30 posts | 40 read | 1 reading | 7 to read
Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in a fast-paced new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb. Nature versus nurture... The shots came quickly, silently, and with deadly accuracy. Within seconds, three people were dead at Central Park's ice-skating rink. The victims: a talented young skater, a doctor, and a teacher. As random as random can be. Eve Dallas has seen a lot of killers during her time with the NYPSD but never one like this. A review of the security videos reveals that the victims were killed with a tactical laser rifle fired by a sniper, who could have been miles away when the trigger was pulled. And though the list of locations where the shooter could have set up seems endless, the number of people with that particular skill set is finite: police, military, professional killer. Eve's husband, Roarke, has unlimited resources--and genius--at his disposal. And when his computer program leads Eve to the location of the sniper, she learns a shocking fact: There were two--one older, one younger. Someone is being trained by an expert in the science of killing, and they have an agenda. Central Park was just a warm-up. And as another sniper attack shakes the city to its core, Eve realizes that though we're all shaped by the people around us, there are those who are just born evil...

It has been awhile since I visited futuristic NYC. I‘ve decided to work on getting caught up in this series, although I don‘t think I will read more than one every month or so. #SeriesLove24 This is #43 of 59 currently. #52Bookclub24 #RevengeStory 3.5🌟

Librarybelle I‘ve not read the series, but I‘ll be starting soon with the #buddyread group! #InDeathLongReadalong 4mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 4mo
tpixie I‘ve read 53 of them. I‘m behind on Dallas, Scarpetta, Temperance Brennan, & Alex Cross. I should catch up this year. Once I joined three book clubs, I somehow got behind on all of my series! 4mo

I liked it but it wasn‘t my favorite. I think it was missing some of that good Eve and Peabody banter.

So when I had won this book I had no idea it was #43 in the series. It made me want to go back and check it out from the start. It really came together in the end and I was left wanting more! 3.5/5

Cinfhen Ooohh!!! That makes me nervous 😬 5y
Bklover I used to read this series and got away from it. I may have to get back into this. Sounds intriguing! 5y

I love when my reading coincides with real life. Listening to this tale of serial murders taking place at Manhattans landmarks (Central Park Ice Skating Rink, Times Square, Madison Square Garden) as I sat waiting for my train at Penn Station. Although the Place rang true, the Time did not. It is the future, but the gadgets just seemed too now. Nice having a female lead who is a police Lieutenant, but overindulgent Irish husband is pure fantasy!

CocoReads I haven‘t read an Eve book in awhile. I really liked the first few and then I just sort of lost interest. Which is funny because I adore most of the books written as Nora Roberts. 6y
DivineDiana @CocoReads This was my first! Not planning on another. But... it would be interesting to read the first! 😉 (edited) 6y
ScientistSam I'd actually say this is one of the least enjoyable of the series because you don't get all the genuine character interaction which makes me love this series. So I'd suggest reading the first one before ruling out the series! 😁 6y
DivineDiana @ScientistSam Thank you! I will follow your advice! 6y

New Playaway to play while cooking and chores!

wen4blu Do you like the playaways better then Overdrive/Libby? I've had mixed results (audio quality) with the few I tried from my library. 6y
DivineDiana @wen4blu Never tried Overdrive. The Playaway works for me! 😀 6y

Another adventure with Eve Dallas. It's always enjoyable watching her navigate life through her jaded ways. Seeing Roarke evolve with Eve, in this book he has become almost as much cop as Eve!

Can't get enough of Roarke and Eve. Love the series. Only complaint we always find out who did it towards the beginning of the book, and have to let Eve figure out the why for the rest of the book, would love to be kept guessing till the end.

Always happy to settle into a new Eve Dallas case. Here the hunt for the killer and the police procedure take center stage in a fast-paced story.

This was an excellent addition to the series and it felt like Dallas had some pretty serious emotional growth. But the number of typos made me a little crazy.

Typical JD Robb book - well written with an intriguing storyline. I enjoyed that she brought back a few minor characters from previous books in the series - it makes LT Dallas' world seem that much more real.

JanuarieTimewalker13 I lived in Vegas in the early 90s!!! I loved Sunset Library, then I moved to the West side of town and I forgot the name of that library, maybe Spring something? Good memories!! Everything was brand new back then!! 8y

JanuarieTimewalker13 Haha...I think it was Sunrise, not Sunset...omg...I wish I could be 29 again!! 8y
Lauren_reading @JanuarieTimewalker13 I love Vegas! I've been here 2.5 years now and my neighborhood didn't even exist until 2008 ? Everything here still seems "new"! 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Wow!!! I was there last October to see Pitbull, and it changed so much I was actually a bit sad...the strip used to have so much charm with the center median and the palm trees and the mountains weren't blocked out by huge buildings...now I feel as though it's a metropolis. But I guess they think it's progress! 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I love the desert. Hope you've visited Mesquite and gone further up to Zion...amazing!! 8y
