Apothecary's Poison | C J Archer

Pickpick

(2017) Third in a Victorian romantic fantasy series featuring a magical watchmaker and a gentleman whose health depends on a magical watch. In this one, they investigate the death of a magical apothecary. The romance is angsty (though I'm not a fan of romance so maybe it's delightful, YMMV) but the cast is fun and the story entertaining. I'll read more.

#MGbookwhisperer #boardingschool
Of these 3 boarding school books, Mystwick School of Music took the cake! It had great world building and magic based on music!
Mystwick and Black Hollow Lane shared the classic boarding school elements of a mysteriously missing parent, the enemy roommate, and a few faithful friends to aid in the quest! Either would be great for fans of Harry Potter.
Midnight for Charlie Bone was just so-so.

I absolutely loved this beautifully illustrated exploration of self-expression, growing up, imagination, death, grief, and moving forward. Every page has something fun or imaginative to discover, and the characters are a lot of fun. I didn't anticipate this exploring loss and grief, and it was handled really well. I didn't pick this as a Halloween read, but it was fun to read now since it includes Halloween. #Comics #Ghost #Halloween

Snagged my #bookspinbingo with the tagged. The story is delightful, featuring a Seelie vs. Unseelie war between fantastical creatures that can only be resolved by a couple of doughty human kids. The art is delightful. No surprises but it‘s a good time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow! This novel goes places that I wasn‘t expecting. It defies genres and categorization. The ways in which queerness is expressed are beautiful. McKenzie writes characters who find freedom in various, complex, and emotional ways. My expectations of what this novel was were constantly changing, but with each twist I was more intrigued at how things would end up. This is a novel of pain, healing, self-discovery, and being yourself at all costs.

“Ava did not remember the taste of butter.”

This has been an interesting read so far, slowly morphing from a family drama into a ghost story. I‘m not sure how I‘m feeling about that. @ShyBookOwl #firstlinefridays

This was a fun impulse read with sweet autumn vibes. I didn‘t love it like I did with The Tea Dragon Society, but I can think of some upper elementary kids I think it would speak to. #Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash @StayCurious #Spookoween2022 @TheSpineView #31by31 @Catsandbooks #PointsAThon @dieareader @GHABI4ROSES #witchathon @mdm139
