Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match
Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match: A Novel | Sally Thorne
From USA Today bestselling author of The Hating Game Sally Thorne comes something a little unexpected a historical rom-com that imagines Victor Frankensteins sheltered younger sister, and her attempts to create the perfect man. For generations, every Frankenstein has found their true love and equal, unlocking lifetimes of blissful wedded adventure. Clever, pretty (and odd) Angelika Frankenstein has run out of suitors and fears she may become the exception to this family rule. When assisting in her brother Victors ground-breaking experiment to bring a reassembled man back to life, she realizes that having an agreeable gentleman convalescing in the guest suite might be a chance to let a man get to know the real her. For the first time, Angelika embarks upon a project that is all her own. When her handsome scientific miracle sits up on the lab table, her hopes for an instant romantic connection are thrown into disarray. Her resurrected beau (named Will for the moment) has total amnesia and is solely focused on uncovering his true identity. Trying to ignore their heart-pounding chemistry, Angelika reluctantly joins the investigation into his past, hoping it will bring them closer. But when a second suitor emerges to aid their quest, Angelika wonders if she was too hasty inventing a solution. Perhaps fate is not something that can be influenced in a laboratory? Or is Will (or whatever his name is!) her dream man, tailored for her in every way? And can he survive what was done to him in the name of science, and love? Filled with carriages, candlesticks, and corpses, Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match is the spooky-season reimagining of the well-known classic that reminds us to never judge a man by his cadaver!

#35by35 Day 2 reading time. I have just under 2 hours left on the tagged book, so I will be finishing that one today. Really looking forward to continuing the audio for Pucking Wild since Pucking Around was so well done.

Victor Frankenstein's sister Angelika is a headstrong, unique woman who hasn't been able to find a suitable husband. So she pieces one together herself and gives him life again. But while her creation is everything she wants in a man, he is tormented by the past he can't remember and the life he left behind. She reluctantly tries to help him investigate even as they fall more for each other. This was such a fun story with great characters!

I might‘ve liked this story on screen as a real wacky hijinks flick. In print, we‘re way too privy to Angelika‘s I-must-get-married-I‘m-man-crazy-OMG-MARRIAGE-OMG mindset for my tastes. Plus, she remakes this guy‘s body for no good reason and traumatizes the hell out of him, and we‘re supposed to root for her? Gah.

I bailed at page 60 & stuck the book in an LFL on this nice little street instead of waiting around for possible character growth.

xicanti And like, I‘m PRETTY SURE the book ends with her and Victor still sciencing it up together, their new spouses in tow, so the whole, “I HAVE to get married so I can leave my brother/best friend‘s house to his new wife” motivation feels especially contrived. I‘m so grumpy about this book, y‘all. I wanted it to be cute but the opening hit a huge number of my gross buttons. (edited) 6mo
mcctrish I read this to the end cuz I had to see how it wrapped up. I agree it would probably play out better as a show. The sewing bits and pieces together to create a person is harder to accept than just bringing someone back whole imo 6mo
xicanti @mcctrish and his body was fine! The science siblings were just being selfish in chopping him up. That, together with the way they regarded the bodies in the morgue, made me dislike them both straight off. 6mo

I‘ve always had a thing for Frankenstein 😆 I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was a fantastical, easy, spicy, and lovely read. At one point I was sobbing because I am ridiculous 🤷🏻‍♀️

Started this on the flight home from San Antonio. I loved “The Hating Game” so it was an easy to purchase this one. It‘s one of my favorite classic-inspired stories. Angelika, her brother Victor and the other characters were fun and well described. The goofy premise of building your ideal mate made my laugh, and the antics that take place throughout the book were pure entertainment. Well done, Ms. Thorne!

I‘m only 2 hours into the audiobook, but it‘s quite funny so far! I‘m in a funky mood, so depending on how this goes, maybe The Dragons Bride is next up! 😂 Dragons and Monsters, why not? 🧟‍♂️🐉💖💚

I‘ve been doing good with staying on track for #FabulousFebruary, but I‘ve been busy with work, so I haven‘t had a chance to review or post much. I‘ve made decent progress on The Man of the Month Club series for #SeriesLove2023, but tbh even though they‘re short novellas, they‘re exceptionally bad. 😂

Just getting started on the tagged audiobook, which sounds like it will be perfect for the #FirstLove trope.

Well this one started out pretty good, but by the end I just wanted it to be over 😬 Angelika got on my nerves at certain parts of the book. Other parts felt like the author left out key points and we were left to fill in the blanks on our own as to how a character got from point a to point b. I read this for a #bookclub and it ended up being a 2⭐️ book for me in the end. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love Frankenstein and I adore Sally Thorne, so I had to read her take on this classic. I enjoyed it! Angelika, Victor‘s brilliant sister, is tired of waiting around for her Mr. Right, so she decides to make one.

Historical #romcom retelling of the Frankenstein story. Very much centred on the physical aspects of a relationship and especially on the male anatomy.

It was a tiny bit OTT at times.

Low pick.

Sorry that I've already finished our #buddyread, @thegirlwiththelibrarybag. Couldn't read due to eyedrops at the doctor's on Wed and finished the story on audio.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag No worries! I‘ve been spectacularly sleepy all week so haven‘t achieved much on the reading front. Hope your eyes are all recovered?! 1y
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Yes, the eyes are fine again. The pupils needed to be widened for an examination. Takes about 12-15 hours afterwards to get back to normal. Which is the annoying part. 1y
Andrew65 I couldn‘t get hold of this one. 1y

Headway is made in finding out who Will is.

Astonished to see that Angelika seems to be oblivious about her charms.

Will is jealous again.

Spoiler-ish comment below.

@thegirlwiththelibrarybag

julesG Not sure what I'd like to see more, Angelika winning Will and riding off into the sunset with him or Christopher winning her heart and riding off into the sunset with her. 😁🐴🌇 1y

Unexpected, magical, and a little creepy-perfect for the spooky season! What if Dr. Frankenstein had a brilliant sister who was tired of waiting around for the perfect man and decided it was time to create one? Thorne has reimagined (reanimated?) Mary Shelley‘s masterpiece in a charming and wistful way. Definitely strange and even off-putting at times, this story isn‘t for everyone but I enjoyed it thoroughly!

A fun retelling of Frankenstein centering on sister of Victor Frankenstein, Angelika. As the assistant to her "man making" brother, she decides to make what she considers to be her perfect man as romance has never been Angelika's strong suit. Thus begins a madcap adventure filled with heart and family that pays homage to the original Mary Shelley.

Nutty premise, pithy comments; thought I would love this book, but I just couldn‘t get into it. Also, a lot of this was kinda cringe.

Thank you goodreads for the copy of this one...but, It just wasn't my type of read...I knew it was going to be weird and a little out there just because of the title and synopsis but it was too much for me. Some parts were ok and I loved the character Will but that's about it.
