The Paris Secret
The Paris Secret | Karen Swan
Not every door should be opened . . . With stunning locations and page-turning tension, The Paris Secret is an intense and gripping tale from bestselling author Karen Swan. Somewhere along the cobbled streets of Paris, an apartment lies thick with dust and secrets: full of priceless artworks hidden away for decades. High-flying fine art agent Flora from London, more comfortable with the tension of a million-pound auction than a cosy candlelit dinner for two, is called in to assess these suddenly discovered treasures. As an expert in her field, she must trace the history of each painting and discover who has concealed them for so long. Thrown in amongst the glamorous Vermeil family as they move between Paris and Antibes, Flora begins to discover that things aren't all that they seem, while back at home her own family is recoiling from a seismic shock. The terse and brooding Xavier Vermeil seems intent on forcing Flora out of his family's affairs - but just what is he hiding?

This is the second book that I have read about valuable art that was discovered in a Paris apartment which had not been entered for many years. Fascinating art world intrigue. Beautiful people and settings. Family secrets. Things aren‘t always what they seem. Finding love. Enjoyable read.

Some surprising twists keep you enthralled in a clever story based around a very loveable main character. The historical references were clever and not cliched.

Happy Independent Bookstore Day!

These audiobooks (among others) are free today to celebrate... check out Libro.fm for more info. I highly recommend getting a membership and supporting your local indie bookstore. 😃

The Paris Secret was already on my wishlist thanks to @Laalaleighh and Tangerine looks too intriguing to pass up.

I‘ve already listened to and LOVED Strange the Dreamer—read by my favorite narrator, Steve West. 😍 Now I own it!

CatLass007 Thanks for the link. How is this different from audible.com? 6y
sprainedbrain @CatLass007 it‘s really not any different, as far as price and what you get. The big difference is that you link your libro account to your local indie book store, and you‘re supporting them. I actually do both... and I have Scribd, and get audiobooks from my library. I have a problem. 😂 6y

This is the second novel I've read about the real Paris apartment abandoned at the dawn of WW2 & left untouched. For the most part I really enjoyed the direction the author took it, the story & the focus on the art. Could have done without the romance which didn't click with me-but still the mystery & secrets kept me absorbed enough to overlook that aspect. With Ratatouille with Salmon inspired by the book for my blog book tour review-link below.

LeahBergen That apartment fascinates me! Would you say The Paris Apartment is a better read to start with? 6y
DebinHawaii @LeahBergen Me too--I find it really fascinating. The Paris Apartment is the one I haven't read yet. I read the one below. So tough to say. These two authors had a different take on the story they imagine and weave around the apartment so I am guessing The Paris Apartment is the same?! 🤔I think you could probably start with any of them. 6y

Finishing up the last 50 pages of this book I'm reviewing tomorrow before getting started on work projects & because it's Wednesday, there is my usual Wednesday coffeeshop breakfast of avocado toast with spicy garlic aioli & a press of local coffee. 🥑🍞☕️💚 Thank you for all of the love on last night's 2O0K post. I will be doing some kind of appreciation giveaway later this week--to say mahalo for all of the joy I get from all of you on Litsy.😍

Centique Your toast pics always make me feel happy 😍 and hungry! 👍 6y

#TuneIntoNovember #DoIWannaKnow Do I wanna know the sugar grams in my Caramel Soy Macchiato & apple hand pie? No, I do not.😆They are a tasty pairing & since I ate no pie on Thanksgiving, I'm having it for (second) breakfast today.😋Errands are run-settling in with this book for review next week-full of secrets that I'm sure I'll wanna know. The 2nd novel I've read based on the treasures/secrets in an abandoned Paris apartment. (1st is tagged👇🏻)

Coleen I had mixed feelings about this one. Curious to hear your opinion. 6y
TricksyTails Yum! That reminds me of Napples from Zippy's. Have you had them? 6y
DebinHawaii @Coleen I just started it but I'll let you know. 👍📚 @TricksyTails I have had them but not for a while. 🍎😋I love any kind of apple pie or turnover! 6y

The Paris Secret is a well-crafted and gripping story borrowed from a real-life Paris headline. Karen Swan writing is superb and she skillfully transports us from London to Paris to Vienna to Antibes. https://lharvey250.tumblr.com/post/166766767794/the-paris-secret-karen-swan-my-r...

Almost my last day in Crete!!! I've been enjoying every second here & getting so much reading time in - it was NEARLY enough! I don't know if it ever is enough, I've never actually reached that point, but this got close! It's been lovely 😊

This is my early morning reading with that first incredible cup of coffee on our little balcony, before the sun gets too hot, always one eye on the ocean

I'm sure my postmaster was amazed at the numerous packages that arrived at my tiny post office today. #Bookmail galore! Over half of the #PassportLitsy books for next year arrived, as well as my Historical Fiction PageHabit box. And, at my front door was a UPS delivery from @WilliamMorrow for a book I won on LibraryThing (the tagged book).

My dining room table looks like a book bomb went off - so many wonderful reads!

Time at the park means time to read... I was at the bookstore and this sort of caught my eye. It was a fun, quick summer read with a bit of a mystery. Not heavy and not too light either!

Where to begin with The Paris Secret... this story was based off an article posted in the daily mail about a Parisian apartment found to have been sealed and forgotten for 70 years. Karen Swan imagines the dramatic story behind such a mystery, an ultra rich family with the means to forget about a Parisian property, the ill gotten treasure within its walls and the havoc such a secret would wreak on those in the know. Add a little sizzle and Voila!
