2/5
Not my cup of tea.
Light read, very predictable (in the first few pages, you know exactly what will happen)
Quite a lot of repetitive parts...
It's a cliché story, Hallmark like.

Another fun read! I didn‘t go into this one with high expectations as wasn‘t a huge fan of People We Meet on Vacation, but this one is exponentially better! The characters are much more complex and loved their development and tension. Also, fun to finish on a cold, snowy, April day.
Bail at 50%.
Started out great. Yet the pace was all over, and it was just missing *something*. I'm not wasting time wading through treacle. If I'm not enjoying a book anymore, I'm bailing!
It's rained AAAAAALL DAY here. And I'm so full of cold 🤧
So I've had an afternoon on the couch under a blanket with a good summer read and a Dark Terry's Chocolate Orange. Bliss.
Loved this one!!! Gus and January both fresh out of a different type of heart break meet again. The typical lines of healing, heartbreak, family baggage, and individual restoration. Let‘s face it…I‘ll take Emily Henry‘s story of two author‘s stuck in despair turned lovers any day. 💗
I liked this more than most new age adult romances but it also didn‘t amaze me. I will say that I don‘t think i have it a fair shot because I read it during the school year which means that it took me forever and it was distinctly not summer vibes when I read it. Maybe I‘ll read it again during the summer so I can fully enjoy it
My favorite Emily Henry book so far
Emily Henry has done it again!
Ahhhhhhh I love the beach!
I enjoyed this one almost as much as “Book Lovers.” Plenty of the usual playful banter which is fast becoming a Emily Henry trademark. Some insightful thoughts on writing and what motivates authors, but felt the family relationships could have been developed a little more. Overall, a funny romance and great summer read! ☀️
2023 Book Club Book …. Awesome choice enjoyed this book!!
Just started this. I'm not a huge romance fan, but I did enjoy Book Lovers, so I have hopes for this one. We're having a book discussion of it at the end of the month.
Reading the tagged book for GDRW book club this month. Where we‘ll actually be discussing it at a local Michigan beach! I‘ve come across lots of funny and good lines that make me smile 😊
As a lover of Pirates of the Caribbean 🏴☠️I know I‘d be thrilled to see a SIXTH POTC film!!! ❤️
July‘s #roll100 @PuddleJumper
This isn't my typical reading genre but I'm not mad at it. It's quite hilarious, and I love the banter. @BooksNBowls knows how to pick em'
Starting Beach Read today! Thanks @BooksNBowls for starting this new monthly swap with me! I love being bookish besties with you ☀️📚💖
I didn‘t enjoy this as much as People We Meet on Vacation. I was given this book by another vacationer while we were in St. Thomas.
I saw another review that praised how accurately Henry described life in Michigan and Up North summers. I‘m not familiar with either. Does anyone else agree/disagree with that?

Another Emily Henry book that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This one is about two writers - a romance writer and a literary fiction writer.
They make a bet to write in the other's genre and see who sells their book first.
Of course, they fall in love ❤️
A little more over the place than I generally enjoy. Two traumatized adults who coped in different ways find eventual comfort in each other. He felt all is wrong with the world, she looks for light. Did like most of their personalities. Didn‘t get the whole bad vibe she gave him. Didn‘t stand up well. While they learned to talk it out, I didn‘t get the feel that brought them together. Too much a loose end for me. Still was an enjoyable read.
A tad too predictable for my taste but an enjoyable read nonetheless!
I love when books actually get Michigan right. Of course I love January and Gus and their banter and their chemistry, but on this #reread, I was really struck by how well Henry captured an Up North summer. And we stan a passionate defense of romance novels! #contemporaryromance #romcom
Beach Read by Emily Henry.
I enjoyed it overall. The writing process bits were very interesting. The love story was nice, I appreciated the smooth ending. It was not without cliches, expected from the genre, but in the end I didn‘t mind them too much. The mature content was not vulgar, which was a relief . (I can‘t say about two other romances I read this year.) I would likely read it again.
Books I finished in March 2023 ✨️
All 4-5 stars, so a solid month!
My top pick is Beach Read, which was my first Emily Henry read and revived my love of getting lost in a book ⛱️
This woman is the 🐐! I just heard last week that “Book Lovers” is being adapted into a film. Months ago she announced that “People We Meet on Vacation “ has been optioned as well. Now this! She‘s so amazing and she deserves it!
At the last minute I added this to my books to bring on a lil beach trip. I'm so glad this trip led me to finally read an Emily Henry book! It's been a remarkably MEH reading year for me so far, but this book has me absolutely enthralled. I haven't had this desire to stay up all night reading in so long and missed it so much. I have to read another book for a book club, but it truly pains me to put this down halfway through, even temporarily 🫠
I‘m not much of a romance reader but it wouldn‘t be summer without an Emily Henry. #EniemiesToLovers #MarchMagic
A great story. Loved the depth of the characters (except for Gus's ex, whom Idespised) and the realness of them. While not my favorite Henry book, it is close to the top. 4⭐️
This is the 3rd and last book I finished for for the #MarvellousMarch readathon. @Andrew65
While her stories are officially fiction, she ensures her characters keep one foot in the real world, connecting our realms and allowing us to see, feel, and appreciate what is happening and how we may apply their reasoning to our every day woes. Beach Read teaches us that nothing is guaranteed - life, love, or happily ever afters. For this reason, we need to embrace the “now“ of things and leave the “buts“ for tomorrow.
Here I've been, waiting for summer to read this because of that ridiculously misleading cover. It popped up for my March #Bookspin, so I dove in anyway. I loved People We Meet on Vacation and Book Lovers, but this one is definitely my favorite! It has depth, fantastic snappy dialogue, and lots of romantic yearning. It is definitely not just a "beach read." I am looking forward to her newest one, coming out next month! @TheAromaofBooks
January and Augustus are old rivals from college who meet again while on vacation. They both have writer‘s block, so they give each other a challenge. The more time they spend together, the less rivals they become.
This one was cute, but I didn‘t like it as much as People You Meet on Vacation. It didn‘t have the same momentum throughout the story. I still did like the characters‘ arcs.
I really liked the first half of the book, but I didn‘t like the later half. The characters didn‘t really grow into better people, but it was interesting to read about the writing process for different kinds of fiction writers.
January is dealing with grief and her disillusionment with her father. She and Gus, a flame from college, end up living next to each other and writing together.
2/5 stars, read for an interesting story about writing.
I always love the protagonists and leading men in Emily Henry's books. I always get suckerpunched in the feels by the character developments and their back stories that hit me where I thought I thought u had healed and scabbed over. Also, she is the Queen of dialogue/banter.
A delightful book! It was the perfect ray of sunshine in January. It wasn‘t too predictable, but it also was very feel-good. ☀️
January is a romance author who doesn‘t believe in the Happily ever after anymore. Not since she found out her dad had a beach-side love nest with his long-time mistress.
When she finds out her college rival, Augustus, a fellow author although he is in the literary genre, rented the house next door, January is forced to face her feelings for him, her father, and her beloved romance genre.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I first read this in June 2020, and I didn‘t remember liking it,though my first review did give it 4 stars, but on the reread, I‘m not sure what I didn‘t like the first time. I thought it was honest, funny, compelling me to pick it back up. I again loved her portrayal of romance novels helping readers through hard times - I never read romance before spring 2020 & I‘m grateful to the Emily Henrys for giving us these little pockets of joy.
