Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters | Rick Riordan
Where there are Gods there are Monsters. You can't tell by looking at me that my dad is Poseidon, God of the Sea.It's not easy being a half-blood these days. You mortals can't even see the monsters we have to fight all the time. So when a game of dodgeball turned into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, I couldn't exactly ask my gym teacher for help. And that was just for starters. This is the one where Camp Half-Blood is under attack, and unless I get my hands on the Golden Fleece, the whole camp will be invaded by monsters. Big ones. Can Percy survive the treacherous sea of monsters and restore order to Half-Blood Hill?

I enjoyed the callbacks to the Odysseus story and can see why this series is so engaging for elementary/middle grade readers.

I chose this book because it was the next book in the Percy Jackson series and the first one was a great read.
This book is about Percy Jackson and his friends who tries to find Grover. He went missing after trying to go find a god. This adventure takes them to an island where they are able to find Grover. This story as it goes on, is able to show the growth of all the characters when challenged.

I had a harder time getting into the Sea of Monsters, compared to the first book, and didn‘t like it quite as much as The Lightning Thief. The second half was excellent though, and I breezed through to the end!

I‘m having a hard time getting into the second Percy Jackson book. Someone tell me it gets better?

At least I am enjoying some hot and sour soup on this cold, rainy day! Just battled through crazy parking lots and shoppers to pick up a prescription and rabbit litter. I don‘t think I‘m stepping foot near a shopping complex until January. People are being jerks right now! #booksandlunch

A good follow up to The Lightning Thief. Riordan does a good job introducing the characters & history for those who haven't read the first book. I love the comic relief weaved through the story, keeping things light & fun. The story moves fast & the characters are growing in depth. There are some moral lessons to be learned in addition to the bits of Greek mythology. I am really enjoying this series & finished this in 1 day. On to the next one!

My boys and I are really loving this series. I have 2 (almost) ten year olds and a five year old, and they all love listening to me read this at bedtime, and my five year old has even been asking for it for his 30 minutes of after school reading.

From an adult's perspective, I enjoyed the second book more than the first, and I'm wondering if it's like HP, where it gets more mature as you progress. We shall see!

So, Percy Jackson is my favorite book series of all time and I honestly can't get enough of it. When my boyfriend and I started dating he knew how much I loved reading and asked me if I could read to him a book, and obviously I started reading him my fav book series. Now were in book two because I only had the first book in my possesion at the time. But now I can finnish reading it to him. I'll also probably read to him Kane Chronicles 😍

Rick Riordan really captured the middle-school voice is his Olympians series and I think the best reason to read this book/series! Humor, adventure, comradery, and even an anti-racist tolerance (the whole plot of Tyson, the cyclops); this book has it all! I‘m can‘t wait to read more but alas, I have other books waiting! #17booksthisyear #percyjackson

Rereading this series for the first time since I was 10 or 11 (I'm about to be 19) and I'm really happy I haven't grown out of it. I still can't believe Rick Riordan's storytelling abilities. The movies really do these books no justice whatsoever!

Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan (F) won 2007,” Best book for Young Adults” award. I‘m sure that no one is surprised that I choose another Rick Riordan book, but I genuinely enjoy his work. In my future classroom, I intend to read The Lightning Thief aloud to my students. However, for the second book, I would offer this as a literature circle option.

audrey.wilson The ESOL strategy that accompanies offering The Sea of Monsters as an LC option is 2 and 4. 2 is promote cooperation (small groups), and four links lesson topics to students‘ prior knowledge. The prior knowledge stems from the first book and the following lesson. The background knowledge also incorporates UDL 3.1, activate or supply background knowledge. 10mo
