The Sea of Monsters
The Sea of Monsters | Rick Riordan
After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson—a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any “normal” friends. But things don’t stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia—only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name…the Bermuda Triangle. Now Percy and his friends—Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson—must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family—one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

So, Percy Jackson is my favorite book series of all time and I honestly can't get enough of it. When my boyfriend and I started dating he knew how much I loved reading and asked me if I could read to him a book, and obviously I started reading him my fav book series. Now were in book two because I only had the first book in my possesion at the time. But now I can finnish reading it to him. I'll also probably read to him Kane Chronicles 😍

Rick Riordan really captured the middle-school voice is his Olympians series and I think the best reason to read this book/series! Humor, adventure, comradery, and even an anti-racist tolerance (the whole plot of Tyson, the cyclops); this book has it all! I‘m can‘t wait to read more but alas, I have other books waiting! #17booksthisyear #percyjackson

I never read the Percy Jackson series when I was a child (23 now) and now that I‘m reading them, I think they have the strangest titles for chapters and it always tears at my curiosity to keep reading!! #PercyJackson #AMReader #FirstPost

Rothdell It‘s super interesting! I was never taught about the Greek Gods while in school, so it always grabs my attention 3w

Rereading this series for the first time since I was 10 or 11 (I'm about to be 19) and I'm really happy I haven't grown out of it. I still can't believe Rick Riordan's storytelling abilities. The movies really do these books no justice whatsoever!

Buchbeeg My 9 year old started reading these this year and she loves them! 1mo
gingerbreadbooknerd @Buchbeeg it's a great series and I highly encourage it because it is not only entertaining and timeless, it's also really educational and it gives you another perspective of mythology and all that. Learning the Greek mythology in middle school after having already read these made it a breeeze 1mo

Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan (F) won 2007,” Best book for Young Adults” award. I‘m sure that no one is surprised that I choose another Rick Riordan book, but I genuinely enjoy his work. In my future classroom, I intend to read The Lightning Thief aloud to my students. However, for the second book, I would offer this as a literature circle option.

audrey.wilson The ESOL strategy that accompanies offering The Sea of Monsters as an LC option is 2 and 4. 2 is promote cooperation (small groups), and four links lesson topics to students‘ prior knowledge. The prior knowledge stems from the first book and the following lesson. The background knowledge also incorporates UDL 3.1, activate or supply background knowledge. 3mo

This was really good. Having watched the movies before reading the books, the ending of this one was completely new to me. My favorite part though was how amazing Tyson was throughout this entire quest. Cyclops love 🙌 Definitely looking forward to book 3 in the near future.

Percy‘s lack of appreciation toward Dean Martin hurts my soul. I couldn‘t fit the whole quote in but he “grabbed the most repulsive one [he] could find.” My heart! Learn to appreciate quality music Percy 😂😂😂

5/5 🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙
Continue to love this series. Rick writes character development so well, yes the kids are getting older and growing up but they develop as they go and strive to be better Heroes than the ones before them! He isn‘t afraid to give them flaws either, they aren‘t perfect and they know that, you know that, the monsters know that but they are going to try their hardest to over come those flaws. Just superb writing!!

Myhusbandhatesreading I really must try to read these. I liked the movies and I really like books based on mythology. 11mo
Seekingtardis @Myhusbandhatesreading oh man if you liked the movies you will LOVEEE the books! I‘ve been doing them on audio and the narrator is bomb!!! 11mo

I enjoyed the first one more but this one was good too. It started out a little slow and I don‘t like the way Tyson was portrayed but it finally picked up a little over halfway through. I‘m thinking the next one will be good but something about this one just made it kind of meh to me. Maybe I hyped it up too much in my own mind.

With even more twists and turns than the first book in the series, this novel drags you further into the adventures while also making you fall further in love with the characters (and hate others more too). P.S you'll want to keep reading this series

To be honest, I felt like this one started off slower than “The Lightning Thief”. However, it picked up and I really enjoyed the adventure Percy went on in the second book in this series. It picked up where the first one leaves off, and leaves us a cliff hanger to set up the next one nicely. If you‘ve started the series, but haven‘t continue - I highly encourage that you do!
