Dallas investigates the occult in a case which sees the death of a fellow police officer, & a falling out with her mentor, Feeney.

I love the partnership that is developing between Dallas & Peabody. Not so enamoured with Roarke, he keeps overruling Eve in her personal life all the time. For that reason I have dropped a star off my original rating. 4🌟

I really enjoy the In Death series, and this book is no exception. Eve Dallas is a great character, and the mysteries are always interesting. I also love the series‘ secondary characters, especially Peabody and Mavis. One character I haven‘t warmed up to? Roarke. He‘s too controlling. Eve‘s a strong woman and I hate that he‘s always the one to rescue her when she‘s in trouble. She‘s strong enough to get out of most jams without his help. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

robinb I ❤️ this series too...wonderful secondary characters! 2y
Melissa_J @robinb I can totally understand why this series gets so much love. I usually stay clear of anything romancey, but this series is definitely a winner. 2y

“I love bright red drinks, don‘t you?” - Anne Shirley

One simply cannot visit the Island and not have raspberry cordial!

Andrew65 Still only read the first one in this series! 2y
Melissa_J @Andrew65 there are 58 books in the series 😳 This is only number five! 2y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J Should keep us both busy for years to come! 😂 (edited) 2y

Melissa_J @Andrew65 I didn‘t realize just how many books the series has gotten up to, and I‘m quite sure it will just keep going, and going... 2y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J It certainly looks like it. 2y
LeahBergen Be careful. Is it REALLY raspberry cordial? 😉 2y

For once, he slept first. She lay in the dark, listening to him breathe, stealing a little of his warmth as her own body cooled. Since he was asleep, she stroked his hair.

"I love you," she murmured. "I love you so much, I'm stupid about it."

With a sigh, she settled down, closed her eyes, and willed her mind to empty.
Beside her, Roarke smiled into the dark.

He never slept first.

Mehso-so

As per usual, I love the banter between Eve and Roarke (almost as much as I just love Roarke, haha). However the suspense in this one just didn't work, and everything to do with the case felt like a slog. Guess satanic rituals just aren't my bag. I'm still a fan of this series (even if I doubt I'll ever catch up ?) but this one just didn't quite make the "pick" cut. I do LOVE this particular scene/quote though! #romantsy

5 down, 41 to go ??‍♀️

debthmpsn Eve & Roake are, hands down, my favorite characters EVER!!! Btw, I‘ll never get caught up on the series either but it‘s a good #lifegoal 2y
Dragon Oh man ❤️ Roarke. I must buy some more of this series at the library booksale. 2y

I‘m not a romance novel reader but make an exception for JD Robb‘s fabulous In Death romantic suspense series. The #desire between Eve Dallas and Roarke is very evident 😊 #NuYear

Bookcation74 Roarke 😍 2y

TrishB I think I‘ve been put off by romance as it‘s not something I generally read! 2y
Melissa_J @TrishB I was hesitant to try the series for the same reason, but the characters are great, the writing is really good, and the stories are interesting. The books weren‘t what I expected (in a good way!). 2y
TrishB Have stacked 👍🏻 see if I can find some cheap copies . 2y
