The Night Sister
The Night Sister: A Novel | Jennifer McMahon
The latest novel from New York Times best-selling author Jennifer McMahon is an atmospheric, gripping, and suspenseful tale that probes the bond between sisters and the peril of keeping secrets.      Once the thriving attraction of rural Vermont, the Tower Motel now stands in disrepair, alive only in the memories of Amy, Piper, and Piper's kid sister, Margot. The three played there as girls until the day that their games uncovered something dark and twisted in the motel's past, something that ruined their friendship forever.      Now adult, Piper and Margot have tried to forget what they found that fateful summer, but their lives are upended when Piper receives a panicked midnight call from Margot, with news of a horrific crime for which Amy stands accused. Suddenly, Margot and Piper are forced to relive the time that they found the suitcase that once belonged to Silvie Slater, the aunt that Amy claimed had run away to Hollywood to live out her dream of becoming Hitchcock's next blonde bombshell leading lady. As Margot and Piper investigate, a cleverly woven plot unfolds—revealing the story of Sylvie and Rose, two other sisters who lived at the motel during its 1950s heyday. Each believed the other to be something truly monstrous, but only one carries the secret that would haunt the generations to come. From the Hardcover edition.

Enjoyable read...even if the focus was on ghosts, lore and murder. Story is just okay but not great. Though since I have a problem with the whole “suspension of disbelief” concept, this resulted in my inability to accept much of the premise. However, my review is by no stretch representative of all who‘ve read it. 3/5⭐️

#MayReads #MayWrapUp
I only read 14 books this month. I really have tried to stop pressuring myself to reach a certain number of books read, and to go back to enjoying books. Not rushing, rushing, rushing. I had some great reads in May!
Also, guilty pleasure alert: I have enjoyed some Netflix series. Currently watching the entirety of Games of Thrones..finished seasons 1-3 these past two weeks. Started on Season 4 yesterday.😥

Tamra I agree, reading should be fun! I am a free range reader. 😆 2mo
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Game of Thrones will definitely cut into reading time. But 14 is a great number! 💖📚💖 2mo

Considering the 3 generation story and switching POV, I'd thought this would be confusing as an #audiobook or in general but it wasn't at all! I loved the eeriness and how, honestly, this kept me guessing and ended up surprising me. I'd spun out a bunch of different, plausible "solutions" and turns out it was the one I least suspected. I'm excited now for The Winter People!

Ok, guys, it takes a lot to make me jumpy with a book but last night coming home I freaked out (about a dryer ball 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️) and this morning, in broad, sunny daylight, I'm getting chills!
Also, Trixie Belden was just mentioned so props to McMahon!

And Done! It was a very interesting story. Amy and her family are violently killed in their home. All except for Lou. The story time hops from Amy as a child, her mother‘s childhood, and present day. Another interesting read by Jennifer McMahon.

Finished this book for #Booked2019, female detective. While not an actual detective, Piper investigates a mystery from childhood that has repercussions in adulthood. A good, solid book.

I picked this book out months before I read it and admittedly it sat there for a long time. When I finally picked it back up I was blown away. Jennifer McMahon is an absolute genius and kept my heart pounding through the whole book. I immediately bought and read all of her books that my local bookstore had. I can‘t help to keep coming back for more!

Childhood friends discover a long-held family secret and it drives them apart. Years later, a horrific crime brings them back into each others‘ lives and they find out that there are still secrets to be uncovered.

Suspenseful but not gory horror.

Went out to dinner with the hubby so I had a bit of distraction from my reading. But, I did get to finish this one and it was really good. There was a lot to it. A lot of creepy and supernatural stuff and wicked twist when you think you‘ve got it all figured out. It ended just right - strong and a bit open. Definitely pick this one up if you‘re in the mood for a good thriller with a paranormal edge. #24b4monday

Andrew65 Have added this one, thanks. This is a great total and dinner out is a good reason for not reading. 😊👍 Best of luck for today. 8mo

3 🌟 /5. This was fine. Suspenseful but not scary, which was a bit disappointing. Once I figured out what was going on (fairly early on), the rest of the book became predictable. But I liked the characters and the way the story moved back and forth in time.

Read this on recommendation of my boss who is a huge fan of McMahon. This not the kind of thriller I would normally pick up but I liked it. The supernatural elements were done well and while a horror novel it wasn‘t graphic and the end was satisfying in a way very few thrillers are

High scores for readability/un-put-down-ability - I finished this in 2 evenings.
The author was really doing something interesting with Rose. I felt the horror, & feared what was underneath it all.
But the resolution was flat. I think there was too much telling at the end, not enough showing. I literally have no unanswered questions, and a tale like this should leave at least a few things to ponder.
Still, a solid read.
