In a small Georgia town, Detective Lena Adams is accused of a vicious murder. A hundred miles away, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver learns that his young detective has been arrested. And Jeffrey’s wife, pediatrician and medical examiner Sara Linton, fighting a heartbreaking malpractice suit, is thrust into the center of a bizarre and murderous case. For Lena has fled to the place where she grew up, careening back through the shadows of her past. Now only Jeffrey and Sara can free Lena from the web of lies that has trapped her—as this powerful novel races toward its shattering climax and a final, unforgettable twist. Praise for Karin Slaughter and Beyond Reach “Will leave you breathless.”—USA Today “Slaughter writes with a razor.”—The Plain Dealer “Slaughter will have you on the edge of your seat.”—Seattle Post-Intelligencer “Powerful and complex . . . Slaughter gradually unspools her fascinating story, all the way up to its shocking conclusion.”—Chicago Sun-Times BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Karin Slaughter’s Unseen.

This review is for the six books in Slaughter's Grant County Series. Karin Slaughter is hands down one of my favorite living thriller authors. She is absolutely fearless in her subject matter & never backs down from putting her characters through hell. Needless to say there is a lot of deeply disturbing (to put it mildly) content in her books, but I personally never felt like it was for shock value. Her work is southern gothic meets propulsive 👇

vivastory thriller meets gritty horror with social commentary. Inevitably there are certain books that are stronger (personal favorites are Blindsighted, Faint Cold Fear & the tagged) but you should really read this series in order. She does have stand alone titles, so if you want to check out her work I recommend reading one of those (The Good Daughter is excellent). Will need a breather & a hug before I dive into the Will Trent series. 2d
batsy Great review! She's definitely on my list of authors to discover thanks to Litsy. 2d
TrishB I love these too! The Will Trent series is also awesome 💕 2d

readordierachel Awesome review! I've been curious about her. 2d
vivastory @readordierachel Her prose isn't quite as elegant as Tana French & she's not as psychologically astute as Megan Abbott, but I really became invested in & care deeply about her characters. Plus her books are insanely addictive, the pages almost turn themselves 2d
readordierachel @vivastory I love when that happens 2d

For the first time in 20 years I visited Turku. Animal rights lawyers conference, and I also met my Ph.D supervisor for the first time! After some hardcore legal debates and insights from around the globe it‘s time to relax on the bus and read some Slaughter (a different kind of slaughter was on the agenda earlier today).

BRB, just trying to find a book about puppies and unicorns and rainbows. I loved the entire Grant County series and am looking forward to tackling some of her others but my brain and heart need a LOOOOONG break from Karin Slaughter. 4⭐️

TW (for the entire series): Rape, domestic abuse/violence

I cried when I finished this.

I love a book/series that makes me FEEL things and this one does in several ways. Karin Slaughter‘s writing astounds me, and her characterization and development of character relationships is just tops.

Please don‘t spoil this for future readers, but OH MY GOSH. I‘m just, I‘m speechless.

Booknerd2 If it‘s what I think it is I agree. Was so 😡 2y

NO SPOILERS, NO SPOILERS, NO SPOILERS:

I‘ve been eager to get to this final Grant County book. Also afraid! Series endings terrify me because they‘re usually intense. I most often skip them altogether.

Every word from the past five books has led me to right now and my heart is beating so fast. I love these characters so much. YES I AM DRAMATIC. I love how things ended in the last book. Oh my gosh. Can it last?

DON‘T ANSWER THAT, LITSY!

Bookzombie I was going to try and knock this out before the end of year, but it will have to be a 2018 book. I feel the same way about series endings. I don‘t skip them though just procrastinate a lot. 🙂 2y

This is another good intense book in the Grant County Series, and I like the way this one fully involved Sara, Lena and Jeffrey - although the bulk of the book didn't actually take place in Grant County. There were so many positives to this book, but I felt it lost some of its shine in the final few paragraphs as I don't think what happened in those paragraphs was needed or even fitted with the book (no spoilers!). I still recommend the series.

I had this spoiled for me a couple weeks ago and knew of a main character who was going to die, so I was almost afraid to read this! But I still loved this book, though I'd be *really* upset right now if I didn't know that the surviving characters show up later in the Will Trent books. Quite a bit was left up in the air so I hope it's resolved eventually!

(Also lol I love how library books always show a reflection of my TARDIS phone case 😂)
