A Better Man
A Better Man: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel | Louise Penny
16 posts | 12 read | 13 to read
The new Chief Inspector Gamache novel from the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Kingdom of the Blind. The air is thick with excitement and anxiety as Sret du Qubec agents gather in the conference room for the Monday morning meeting of the homicide department. This will be Armand Gamaches first day back since his demotion from head of the entire force, to head of homicide. Complicating matters, hell be sharing the duties with his former second-in-command, Jean-Guy Beauvoir. Amid blistering social media attacks, Gamache sets out on his first assignment to find a missing woman. The search for Vivienne Godin is played out against a backdrop of catastrophic spring flooding. Three Pines itself is threatened, as the Rivire Bella Bella breaks its banks. A province-wide emergency is declared and desperate efforts are underway to save towns and cities, dams and bridges. As Gamache leads the search for Vivienne, he develops a profound empathy for her distraught father. With a daughter of his own, he finds himself haunted by the question, how would you feel, if... As the rivers rise, and the social media onslaught becomes crueler, a body is discovered. And the victims father contemplates a murder of his own. And the question facing both Gamache and Beauvoir shifts. What would you do, if... your childs killer might walk free?

There is nothing more calming then re-entering the world of Three Pines and falling back in to the relationships of these beloved characters. I can‘t recommend this series enough. It‘s never just a mystery to be solved but includes complex emotions that need to be faced in order to get to the truth.

Sapphire Do you think the new York art critic will become a regular character? 1d
Breanne1 @Sapphire I think so! It seemed to me like she needed Three Pines for reasons not disclosed yet... 22h

Louise Penny's latest takes Chief Inspector Ganache back into the eye of the storm. A tale of the legacy of abuse and the toll it takes on everyone involved. Plus, a trip to the most glorious little community of Three Pines - who doesn't want to live there?

I read 13 lucky books in August. The tagged book was my favorite, but I really liked Furious Hours, After the Flood, and The Stationary Shop too.

Last #bookhaul post! My Barnes and Noble blowout sale books arrived while I was gone, along with the tagged book, which is a special edition, signed copy.

Is taking off the rest of the year, with pay, an option? I want to read everything!

I loved this book. Most series become repetitive or absurd over time. Louise Penny‘s inspector Gamache series just keeps getting better. (I cried.) If you‘re new to this series start at the beginning!

Shemac77 Love this series! Can‘t wait to get my copy in the mail. 3w
Bookwormjillk @Shemac77 now the long wait until the next one... 3w

Booknerd2 @Bookwormjillk I definitely will. There‘s not much that would keep me past my bedtime but a good author would definitely be something that would. 😜 2w

Finished this excellent book today. I am always a little sad to finish, though, as it‘ll be a while before I can visit Armand, Jean Guy, and Three Pines again. This one incorporates flooding and spring weather as part of the mystery and overall story - a scarily realistic aspect of the book. I also love the little bits of wisdom incorporated throughout like the 4 statements and 3 questions along with Noli Timere. Can‘t wait to visit again.

Booknerd2 💜💜💜🌲🌲 🌲 Can‘t wait to read this!!! 3mo
JamieArc I purposefully don‘t get caught up so that I know I‘ll always have the next book to read. I don‘t want to run out! 😂😂 3mo

Catching up on posting. I actually finished this last month.

Three Pines. Gamache. The Bistro. A death to solve. All the usual and I was so happy to go back to this series once again. I hope I never tire of these characters who by now seem more like friends than words on a page. Everything I wanted and more. Put this on your must read list.
