The Lost Coast
The Lost Coast | Amy Rose Capetta
The spellbinding tale of six queer witches forging their own paths, shrouded in the mist, magic, and secrets of the ancient California redwoods. Danny didn't know what she was looking for when she and her mother spread out a map of the United States and Danny put her finger down on Tempest, California. What she finds are the Grays: a group of friends who throw around terms like queer and witch like they're ordinary and everyday, though they feel like an earthquake to Danny. But Danny didn't just find the Grays. They cast a spell that calls her halfway across the country, because she has something they need: she can bring back Imogen, the most powerful of the Grays, missing since the summer night she wandered into the woods alone. But before Danny can find Imogen, she finds a dead boy with a redwood branch through his heart. Something is very wrong amid the trees and fog of the Lost Coast, and whatever it is, it can kill. Lush, eerie, and imaginative, Amy Rose Capetta's tale overflows with the perils and power of discovery -- and what it means to find your home, yourself, and your way forward.

Queer young adult fiction is my favorite. This book was lovely, fun and cute.

I love how inclusive young adult lit is, and this is a perfect example. Five queer witches, all with their own gender identities and sexuality, all respectful and supportive of one another while also trying to solve a magical mystery. Really lovely.

CareBear Hey Amanda! Just wanted to check in and see if you had a chance to mail the three owl post books you have. 💕 1mo

This wasn't my favorite book by ARC, but I did enjoy it. I couldn't fully connect with any of the characters, but thought that the magic was interesting. The atmosphere of the setting was done nearly perfectly, however. I really like when magic is connected to nature, and this was a great example of that. The redwood forest scenes were my favorite of the book. The setting is reminiscent of The Raven Boys, but the similarities don't really ⬇️

rjsthumbelina ...extend any further than that. I did like that most of the characters were queer as well. Listened to this #audiobook via #scribd #queerbooks 1mo

I've heard quite mixed things about this one but I'm giving it a go! How bad can queer witches be?!

Scochrane26 The cover is really pretty. 2mo
LizzieLou I really enjoyed it. Love the descriptions of the forest I really felt like I was there, all damp and foggy. 2mo

I‘m here to keep this month of queer lit going... though to be fair I still read a lot of queer lit all year round. In June I read ONLY queer books.

New favorite. Brought the energy of raven cycle into a far more satisfying story. I loved this story and the characters. Witches and a deep connection to nature. Diverse cast of characters. Queer. And chronic pain rep that actually felt real and like real rep to me.

rjsthumbelina Glad I'm not the only one seeing a connection to The Raven Boys! I have about 2 hrs left in the audio and just keep thinking how much it has the same vibes. But in a good way, not like it is borrowing from it 1mo
Chasingmermaids @rjsthumbelina exactly!!! It has its own story and feelings but that creepy forest magic is just dead on. 1mo

Love love loved it!!! All I had to do was look at that cover and read the first few words of the synopsis and I was sold!! 💖✨✨
I saw a review on Goodreads saying they thought it felt a little like The Raven Boys series and I would say I agree. I only wish this was a series!

Happy Friday everyone! 😁

I loved the aesthetic and the diversity (queer POC witches for the win!) but ultimately failed to deliver. There were too many POV changes and the storyline was boring. Full review on my blog: https://wp.me/p9zANx-kl
