What the Wind Knows
What the Wind Knows | Amy Harmon
In an unforgettable love story, a woman's impossible journey through the ages could change everything.... Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather's stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time. The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar. Mistaken for the boy's long-missing mother, Anne adopts her identity, convinced the woman's disappearance is connected to her own. As tensions rise, Thomas joins the struggle for Ireland's independence and Anne is drawn into the conflict beside him. Caught between history and her heart, she must decide whether she's willing to let go of the life she knew for a love she never thought she'd find. But in the end, is the choice actually hers to make?

Reminded me of “Outlander” the way it started in present day and went back to 1921 In Ireland. Good historical information on Irelands wish to be free from Englands ruling and the dissent it caused among the people of Ireland. We‘ll written and certainly a page turner.

21 #72 This book. I didn‘t want to like it because I hate time travel stuff. It‘s too deep for me, typically. My mind can‘t wrap itself around it. But I loved this book. It was well written. I learned a lot about Irish history. Likable characters. And I was smiling at the end. Winner!

😍🤘An Amazon prime free read and oh my gosh, it was soooo good. I'll definitely read it again. Travel, love, history, it hits the trifecta. Fair warning your heart will get involved on this one. Reminded me of a movie I love called The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan with Lindsay Wagner. ❣❣

I‘ve had this book on my kindle since before it released and finally got to it... what a gem.

Absolutely perfect historical fiction with time travel, a touch of magic and mystery, beautiful love stories, and lovely Ireland.

This book isn‘t really like Outlander at all, but it certainly helped quench my Outlander-thirst. 😉

I‘m going looking for more from this author... this book is fantastic!

This is a five star read no matter. The timing made this more emotional for me though as I witnessed two family members lose their great loves this week.

Book 109 Anne's grandfather, by whom she was raised, dies, and she takes his ashes to Ireland, where she learns about her roots (in a very fantastical, The Time Traveler's Wife way). Chapters alternate between Anne's story and the history of Ireland's revolution (elucidated via fictional journal entries). While a refreshing setting for a historical fiction, the journal chapters were dull. Still, the relationships are compelling.

#BuzzwordBookathon Book 6 ✔️

When Anne travels to Ireland to spread her grandfather‘s ashes, she finds herself transported eighty years into the past. There, she encounters not only the history that has always fascinated her, but also a romance that could change her life forever. I loved it.

I really liked The first girl child, so I thought I‘d give another Harmon book a try. This was, however, more of a romance only type of novel, and a bit “too much” for me. I‘ll give this author one more try though - any recommendations?

When Anne takes a boat onto an Irish lake to scatter her grandfather‘s ashes she doesn‘t expect for the present to #disappear and to find herself in 1921, reunited with her grandfather when he was a child. I picked up this book out of curiosity and ended up really liking it. I loved reading about Ireland during that time period and thought the time travel aspect was handled well. Really surprised by how much I enjoyed this.

This cover... gorgeous! If I love it as much as I think I will, I‘m going to have to get myself a hard copy. Planning to take the boys to the lake to fish with family and hopefully plug in the earbuds and get lost in the story for a while.

Originally picked it up last summer because I was on an Outlander kick and this is much in the same vein.

IMHO, this is a more succinct version of outlander. The timeline is shortens, the characters are deeper and more compelling much faster, and there is a lot less melodrama. Basically, I found it to be a lot of the things I loved about the first couple outlander books, but without a lot of the things I didn't love. And a real fresh setting.

The wind you hear is the same wind that has always blown. The rain that falls is the same rain. Over and over, round and round, like a giant circle. The wind and the waves have been present since time began. The rocks and stars too. But the rocks don‘t speak, and the stars are too far away to tell us what they know.”

Beautiful story. A bit predictable a few times, but still a lovely story. It evoked a wide range of emotions from me; I often could feel what the heroine was feeling. I sometimes don‘t care for time travel stories, but this one was well executed. I highly recommend.

This was literary ambrosia. I loved it and gave it 5 sparkling stars. It was beautifully constructed and the two main characters were well developed. My only qualm was that when I closed the book, I wasn‘t left pondering any character tensions. The plot wrapped up so tidily that it was a little convenient.

I had high expectations about this book but it didn‘t quite deliver. The novel is interesting and educational on the Easter Rising and life in Ireland at the beginning of the 20th century. As a love story, however, it did not evoke an emotional response...

So, I completely forgot about Amazon first reads this month. Crazy! I chose the tagged book about a woman who travels to Ireland to scatter her grandpa's ashes and is transported back to 1921. The Broken Circle about the author's escape from Afghanistan and Where the Forest Meets the Stars about a mysterious girl who claims to be from the stars and sent to witness five miracles also sounded really good, so I pre-ordered them.

LazyDays I picked the tagged book also, Happy Reading! 3y
